I have a sign made up for our first cruise on May 2 and am now wondering if I should have our names taken off it. We put our last name and first names on there and I am wondering if that would pose some sort of security or safety problem?? Like people being able to charge to our room or something like that because they would have our name, room number and stuff.... Just being silly? Maybe I will just leave our last name and take off our first names? Our dd is only 20 months old (or will be soon) so it isn't like she needs to find our room with it or anything!

We only put our last name on our sign and my 13 yr. old son was very upset and said we shouldn't have our name on our door for safety reasons. The door would always be locked so I don't think it's a problem. Any other thoughts?

Why do you do this? This is a custom of some sort?

Personally, I would only put my first name, or maybe a screen name. We've had two weird experiences with people from the internet that have made me more cautious. They gleaned info here, not from our door. But that was just two out of many, many great experiences, so the bads ones are the exception. But still, it pays to be safe.

Again, why do you do this? Is it just a "Hi, we're here!" type of thing?

Hey Barb! - LOOOOOOVE your website. DW and I are staying in "your suite" per all your wonderful advice! :bounce: :bounce:

We used Dis screenname and our first names only...
it does not seem like it is that big of a risk to me....

I dont see that much of a problem ....

DD7 and I got caught up in the magic and we sat down and designed a cabin door sign. She had fun picking out which photo's to use and what Disney character should go along with each person. I think that next we'll either design a t-shirt or pillowcase for autographs. It's helping us make it through the last 30 days of our countdown. Now if only my new Passporter would arrive.....

StuartMI ~ The signs are a "Hi, we're here!" type of thing, but they also help you and your kids find your cabin. Since all of those doors look the same, a sign makes it easier to find the right one.

I made a magnetic sign for our cabin door and DS loved it because that is how he would find our cabin. We put our last name on the top and each of our names on the side. We never had anything weird happen because of us doing that though. But I guess it makes sense people being a bit cautious, Especially now-a-days

We had a sign from a fellow DISer last time announcing our special event. We got a Magical Moment certificate because of it.

I never thought about it for kids, but that's a great idea. On our last cruise we ran into a child by the elevator who was lost. Being the helpful DISer I am I asked him where his room was and pointed him in the right direction. He didn't want me to walk him to his room, but he just didn't know which way to go (forward, aft, port, starboard :worried: )

How do you make a magnetic sign? I would love to make one for my door as the trip is for my husbands grad school graduation.

StuartMI -- I'll tell you why WE are going to do it next time: My daughters will be 9 and 12 when we sail again. Just old enough for a little bit of independence, still young enough to need all the help they can get. We'll allow them to come and go on their own some of the time, and a sign on the door will be "extra insurance" that they'll have no trouble finding their way home.

You can purchase magnetic sheets that will fit through your printer. It's very easy to print on the magnetic paper, it's just like printing off a photo. You can make your own design and print it off. It adds a bit of Magic and Wonder to the cruise.

Okay thanks folks. In November it will be just DW and myself cruising. No kids--yet. So I don't know if we necessarily need it.

I'm going to try and work up something to suprise my DH. We obviously were married at WDW....it will not quite be our 8th anniversary, but we booked a month early to get the Antigua trip.

We had a door sign primarily because all the doors on the deck look alike, and your room # isn't on your keycard, so it is really easy to forget your room number. With the unique sign, there was no doubt which was our room.

We did not include any kind of names whatsoever, and no pictures of ourselves. I had horrid thoughs of someone looking for us at 3am, finding our room because of our name or picture on the door, and pounding on the door until we woke up out of a sound sleep. :(

Thanks Verandah Man-
I think I will go to Office Max today and look for that magnetic paper! I just found a great site with lots of Disney fonts so I can make a great sign for my husbands graduation!! ANyone have ideas how I can design it? (ie- Happy Grad School Graduation, Grad School Graduation Cruise....)

On our last cruise (Jan '04) we hung a 3 foot windsock that looked like a "Maxine" type lady in a bikini outfit. It was cute and everyone talked about it; even the room stewards. We did it for a laugh but will probably do something like that again.

I would not have a problem putting our names on a sign for the door. Caution is a good thing, paranoia is not. I refuse to be afraid of everything.

I have a magnetic decal on my car that looks like a soccer ball in the colors of the American flag. I put it on the cabin door and it did help to locate the room being that all doors look alike.

Does anyone have a picture of a sign they have made to post on their cabin door? I would love to make one for our Sept cruise & just need some general ideas (I promise not to copy yours! ). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Someone posted about a site with disney fonts. Anyone know what site that may be? Thanks, again!:earsgirl: :earsboy: princess:
