We will be staying at all 3 DL resort hotels for 9 days and would like to take 1 day and go to see a few sites such as Walk of Fame, El Capitan theatre, Grauman's Chinese theatre, Kodak theatre etc. Can we do this ourselves? Can we take a city bus or is there a real good and reliable tour company that we should use? Any info or suggestions will be appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend the city bus for sightseeing, just for the amount of time it would take to get to and from Hollywood. I've done the ride between Anaheim and Hollywood many times, and it takes around 3 hours (including the time on the subway) one way. It'd be reasonable if you were staying the night in Hollywood, but doing the 3 hour ride 2 ways would eat up most of your day. You'd be taking the 460 city bus from Disneyland, getting off the bus in downtown L.A., and then transfering to the subway the rest of the way.

I don't know of any tours offhand, but I'm sure someone else will be able to recommend one!

Have fun on your trip!

Rent a car for the day. Leave Anaheim before 7AM or after 10AM and don't plan on heading back until after 8PM to avoid traffic.

You can park at Hollywood & Highland to explore Hollywood - Grauman's, Kodak and El Capitan are all on this block.

You can also drive up to the Griffith Observatory which is not only awesome, but free.

We are just back from our DL trip which included a day trip to see the sights of Hollywood and surrounding area. We booked a private tour through Tony the Limo King and had a great experience. We found that the price wasn't much more than what we would've paid for a bus tour, we were able to see what we wanted to see and plenty of other things along the way that we didn't even know about, had a great view of the Hollywood sign, saw lots and lots of stuff, and more importantly, when there was a big traffic snarl on the way back to the hotel, our driver was able to get around it because he knows the "surface streets" and kept us on the move.
