I've been debating for days whether to post to this thread or not... I honestly figured it would be locked or poofed by now, so nothing I would have said would matter anyway and in all honesty, it probably won't.
I've been around the DIS since January 2001. You could probably tell from my low post count, that I've always viewed my time on the DIS as more of a "Spectator Sport". I never really wanted to get too emotionally attached and have honestly stayed out of 99.9% of the controversy over the years.
Banfest '08 has gotten to me though, the boards have changed and more so than in any other "cycle" over the years. While I don't consider myself to have had "internet friends" that were banned, there are plenty of people that I miss terribly, mostly for their insightful and honest responses to questions and problems both serious and silly. Yet, the teflon-coated posters who spew carefully cloaked venom and "bait" at the stroke of a key remain. I just don't get it. I find it a little crazy that the explanation for the mass bannings is because posters are being "picked on and ridiculed on another site". The same thing goes on here daily, just "the victims"are not posters, but MILs, EXs, co-workers (Evil Genius' long running thread comes to mind) and countless others. What makes this practice any different?
Yes Sonya, in answer to your original question the DIS has changed and not for the better.

PS: I am not picking on Evil Genius. I actually have enjoyed that thread at times and am just using it as an example since it was the first to come to mind.
