Can I vent? Thanks.
So today was my first day of my first day ever, I was excited of course. It was just ol' Burger King but yeah. Anyways...
I went in and I told a person that today was actually my first day and I wasn't sure how to proceed. So she said she'd go get me the shirt and hat. I sat waiting. Waiting. Waiting. 15 minutes later she comes in with this XXL polo, hat and name tag. Now I am by NO means an XXL but she said it was the only one they had.
I went into the bathroom to change. Ohmygod, the shirt literally SWAMPED me. And we had to tuck it in, which I wasn't aware of. See, the only semi-okay looking black pants I could find were those high waisted type ones, so it looked absolutely ridiculous tucked in. I looked like an old gramma with the high pants and huge shirt. Everything looked horribly droopy, girls you know what I mean.
So I stand there, waiting waiting waiting for someone to take me under their wing and actually train me! They finally told me to stand and watch this other woman run the cash register. The register is a touch screen so I couldn't see anything at an angle. For about an hour I stood there. Incredibly frusterated, confused, dazed, etc. The woman just griped about how it was almost her time off. I didn't think she wanted to train me at all. Honestly I was fighting back the urge to cry and scream and cry some more. I was telling myself then that it just wasn't worth it. I couldn't handle it all. I'd quit.
Oh btw, about 5 minutes in the power went off for a minute and FROZE EVERYTHING. They had to physically write down everything. I stood there like a lump.
So finally I intervened and was like 'Uhm, can I ring up the next person?' I mean it was MY register. They gave ME the key. I was signed in on it. Ugh. She said fine and then basically sauntered off to gripe to someone else.
There was another young-ish chick on the other register so I basically just asked her all my questions. She wsa VERY friendly and taught be where the cups were, forks, etc.
So for about another hour and a half I happily kept to myself ringing people up and would occaisonally ask a question. Everything was fine.
Then. Then they had me clean the bathrooms. Ohmygod. I'm telling ya. Whoever said guys bathrooms are cleaner then girls are surely kidding themselves. The girls bathroom barely needed any cleaning, but the guys...well let's just say that was different.
So obviously I was still very confused. At this point I was half registering and half drying off platter things.
So the A. Manager comes up to me and says 'I think I'll let you go home early.'
She showed me where my schedule is and the paper that tells everyone what they'll be doing on that particular day. Then she sent me on my merry way.
I ran to the bathroom to get out of that hideous shirt and put my regular one back on. Then I bought a soda (the discount is only 10%
) and left.
Now if you're counting, I got there at 11. Left at about 2:30. That's 3 and half hours. At $6.50 and hour. Wow I'm rich. And because I only worked 3 hours I got no break.
It's definitely not worth it. Honestly, if they're going to let me go home early everyday what they're paying me will NEVER add up.
Seriously, I wish they would've just let me stand at the register and not bothered me. I would have been very happy.
This is...I don't know. Crap. It was a lot more hectic than I thought it would be. I was also a lot more confused because they did basically NO training. It was awful, but I'll do it. Well, only if they guarentee me they won't try and send me home early.
So I had to vent. I had my first day of work ever ever ever and it went awfully. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
Yeah right. I'm gonna hate this job.
