Has anyone let their children use sidewalk chalk while waiting in lines? I wonder if the Mouse would really disapprove? If it is ok for Burt & Mary Poppins, should it not be ok for a bored child in line? :rolleyes1

Short answer: No

Could you imagine 1000's of kids in the park armed with sidewalk chalk? The park would look like a disaster! A good rule of thumb is if I would want every other child doing what my child is/would be doing then I won't let my child do it.

I know when I go to WDW, I do not want to see 1000's of children's artwork on the concrete.

Not to mention the germ factor. You don't really want your kids putting their hands on the walkways, I'm sure.

Really, I think the issue would be - where could you actually do this without constantly having to move? I can't think of very many rides/waiting areas where there would be a chance to sit and draw - none of the lines that weave back and forth could accomodate this.

Points all noted; I will forego the sidewalk chalk. Has anyone had much success with Pal Mickey keeping a 3 & 6 yr old entertained in the lines?

I have to agree - leave the chalk home! Most of the lines are actually moving most if not all of the time. There would not be time to use the chalk and I imagine the lil ones would be stepped on.

To tell the truth I have never had to actually bring anything special for lines or even think much about what to do in line. We have been visiting since my girls were 1 and 3 and by using a combination of emh and fp you really can reduce any amount of waiting. If we do hit a line we just talk, joke around and take in the sights. We have also met some great friends, young and young at heart, in line.

My girls like pal mickey, he tells corney jokes and is great for giving little known facts in the parks. He occasionally will give tips as to a ride with little to no wait time or when a parade is about to start.

My girls share one and its really a fun toy. They take turns "wearing" him on a water bottle strap.

I'd suggest playing 'I Spy' with them in line. Lots of things to look for in queues. I also used to bring a small pad of paper and pen for each and let them draw or play tic-tac-toe while waiting.

We used to play sound games: Think of a letter and name all the the things taht begin with that letter, like snake. You make the sound of the first letter: sss-ss-snake, ss-ss-silly,ss-ss-Sam. Whoever gets stumped has to think of a new letter to work with. You can also play the rhyming game--hat-mat-rat-bat-mat; roll-bowl-foal;sit-bit-split-mitt.
