We’ve only done KW as cruisers. They take having fun seriously lol. As expected, lots of touristy trap places to grab a drink/eat on Duval Street. Choose wisely. There are some great seafood places near the fishing dock area.
IDK about that drive. Have heard some stories about traffic from Miami area (especially on weekends) & accidents on the series of bridges that bring things to a stop for hours.
You see a lot of people on bikes and mopeds there, can rent to get around. IMO the hop-on, hop-off tram is a reasonably priced great way to get to the more far flung areas of the town.
Best of all, no need to find a parking spot if using public transportation. The lack of them there equates to what you’d find in a major city. If you drive, be prepared to both hunt for a spot & pay dearly for the privilege unless your accommodations offer it.
Saw the airport when doing the museum next to it. Small, appears it would be easy to navigate. We have considered looking into flights there from MCO. Allegiant, from our northern home airport often has surprisingly dirt cheap flights there. We have been contemplating a separate, bonus trip for up a long weekend getaway. 1-1/2 feet of snow & ice will mess with your brain that way.
That said, despite really liking the overall vibe of the area, a week would be too much for us to spend there. Three or four nights would be our sweet spot to get ‘er all done as long as arrival & departure times nearly a full day.
