DH and I were talking about this last night, and he had a question I couldn't answer for him.

Say if you order something (like a burger/chicken sandwich) and they consider the fries sides... can you substitute the fries for a side salad..or soup or whatever

Or do you need to do it this way-- order only the sandwich, no fries, a small salad as an appetizer, or soup...

then get your drink/desert..

His thought is that the restaurants are being stingy regardign the appetizer.. he said I paid for an appetizer, and fries are nto one!

I am not really sure if you can trade one thing for another... however, the q and c, do not come with an appetizer... they come with entree, side, drink, dessert...

If they offer the sandwich, by itself, and you wanted a salad as a side... i would order it that way. Most restaurants I have looked at menus for... have the sandwiches coming with chips, fries or some veggie, and I assume that counts as the side... but some have reported getting an additional side....
Probly depends on the person taking your order.

interesting, the wordage on our vouchers I think say apppetizer.. I will have to double check before we leave.

I am not fond of french fries, so I am going to attempt to do sandwich with side salad.. or salad with chili/soup bowl and see how i do.

The Kingdom Lunch vouchers come with an appetizer but the Quick and Casual vouchers do not. Some have reported that at the Pepper Market you can get a salad along with your entree even if the entree already comes with a side.

Hope that helps.

Cindy B,
On the Q & C it is a side item, but you can drop the fries and get a salad instead.
I did this at the Contemporary snack bar. I didn't even have to explain. (This is not always the case, though :) )

There is definetely a difference in our household of side items vs. appetizer.

DH thought is that a side item is an appetizer. I see side item as a side item, whether it is a vegetable, rice or even a side salad.

I know that certain places do interpret the voucher more liberally than others.. I'll just have to try it and see how it goes!

I told DH that if he wanted an appetizer like nachos, or spinach dip or something like that he should have gotten the more expensive lunch vouchers...

Thanks for backing me up on this one!

Your hubby will have to go by what Disney considers a side versus appetizer. Although Pepper mill has allowed us to get a side in additon to the plate of food that comes with a side..they still don't allow an appetizer with the quick and casual. Appetizers are not usually salads at most places, although some use salads as appetizers. Even when you have the more expensive lunch voucher, the appetizer has to be off the appetizer list at any place I've gone.
Beaches would not let us get a salad instead of fries..just fries or fruit for the sides. They did let us get the salad with chicken as the meal and the chili as a side.

I have a question Doris... now, at Beaches we were allowed (Last August) to either have a choice of fries/fruit or onion rings...

We got one with fries and one with onion rings.. (both prime rib subs!)

just wondering if they are disallowing the onion rings now

As of May they were still allowing the onion rings as a side. You can also get the flavors added to your soda (vanilla coke, etc.) and it counts as the beverage.

I have yet another question...at the Pepper Market has anyone ever been allowed to get the dessert sampler as the dessert. We weren't hungry enough for it and the single dessert was more than enough for us, but I was wondering if it is an option.

I think I may try that as well. Thanks! My DD loves salads and my son like chili as well... we will have to see how their appetite is.

we just back from wdw and we used our q & c vouchers at the beaches and cream, no smoothes for your drink, no onion rings as side. pepper market best value i had a taco salad plus a tuna salad as my side order,my sister had taco salad plus nacho as her side dish, my daughter got the pick 2 dishes of the chinese food for 14.00 something plus egg roll as side dish, all this for 6 people, plus yes on smoothies for your drink, plus desserts any desserts. we were also told we could have gotten a speciality coffee to, but we didnt, they were 3.50 and i would have hate to have paid 10 for just 3 coffees when all of us were so full.:) :) :) :) :) :) we ate only at those two places several times, lunch at b&c and dinner at pepper market.

Does the Pepper Market have smoothies?

I have been looking at the counter service places and am more confused now than when I started, so maybe you could help! For example:

At MGM Pizza Planet they offer a Meal Deal(pizza, salad and drink) for $8.69 plus dessert Rice Crispy for $2.39 for a total of $11.08.

There is also an individual pizza for $5.79 and a salad for $5.29, soda is $2.29 and Rice Crispy for $2.39 for a total of $15.76.

2 questions: With my C&C voucher would I be allow to get either one? And are they really the same size meal and I may as well buy the Meal Deal? Thanks for the help!:)

The voucher states combo meal or side item, entree drink and dessert.

The only difference beside price, is maybe, just maybe.. the portions may be slightly larger with orderin alacarte. I have seen in other restaurants that in a combo platter they shove the side items on thier so it stays on the same plate.. (Don Pablos is famous for this!)

Thanks CindyB. I wonder if they are bigger, but I would bet not 30% bigger which is the price difference. I would love to know if the difference is enough for me and my DS to share verses each of us getting our own. The $11.25 voucher is really ok for the Meal Deal too if I consider the tax that would be added on but it really is a savings for the al la cart price. :)
