Side hustle?

So the Chancellor at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse was just fired after he appeared in porn videos with his wife. That's quite the side hustle, but maybe the press will be a boon to them. https://www.insidehighered.com/news...chancellor-fired-after-appearing-adult-videos

So just curious, do any of you have a side hustle (you don't have to name what it is if you don't want to).

I do have a side hustle, I co-own an IT business. It's been an interesting experience and a ton of work but overall I've enjoyed it.

DH and I have 3 side hustles....run social media for a local brewery, he writes articles, and we have a very active social media profile that provides a lot of benefits but we hustle to do promotion on it. They are definitely hustles as we put in a lot of work to all 3 to make them profitable or beneficial to us.

I referee soccer. Usually only one or two days a week, a little more during HS soccer season. It’s not much money, but I feel good about helping give back to a sport my boys played for so many years. And it helps keep me in shape.

This is what my husband does. He also referees local tournaments and other games.

I believe he's got 15 days of games scheduled already this month.

He's also an assistant assignor of games and treasurer of his high school association.

With 4 kids and dh's soccer involvement and my job, I didn't have time or the inclination for a side hustle.

We boarded dogs in our home for a few years. Just one or two dogs at a time and only for friends or friends of friends.

Now I tutor and teach summer school if I want extra money.

I taught a defensive driving class 2 times a week for years for the company I work for. Paid off a few bills & lots of Disney trips, lol.
My youngest daughter did laundry thru an app like door dash when she was unemployed a couple years ago & continued until she was sure her new job was going to work out.
My oldest daughter works from home full time & also teaches a defensive driving class most Saturdays & some Sundays. She also has a you tube channel which is doing quite well.

A defensive driving class? Like above and beyond drivers ed? This is great, but I've never heard of it. I took a specialty driving class years ago when I worked for GM but I never heard of it being offered to the general public.

I have a knit/crochet business. I've been selling what I make for about 3 years and each year has seen growth but it is a lot of work. This year I made enough to cover flights to Hawaii in May for 3 of us.

I spent about 10 years doing freelance video work for college sporting events. Hookups and making sure the video looked right for football, basketball, volleyball, etc. I really enjoyed it and liked the extra money. Then my "real job" got in the way and I had to stop.

I tried to get back in when I got laid off, but it's not easy to do that, and I gave it up.

20 years ago I was a critical care nurse burning out fast.....but I had a side hustle, dog walking and pet sitting. So I turned my side hustle into my business, still going strong all these years later. I've hired many people, mostly SAHMs, who worked for me as their side hustle though. Also college kids in the summer working part time for some extra money. We're now five years or less from retiring, and I wouldn't change a thing .

A defensive driving class? Like above and beyond drivers ed? This is great, but I've never heard of it. I took a specialty driving class years ago when I worked for GM but I never heard of it being offered to the general public.

It is a 6 hour class (no driving) that can be court ordered if you have to go to court for a ticket. Or you can take to have points removed from your driving record & it is required by the state if your license is suspended or revoked. Also insurance companies may give a discount on your premium if you take the class & have no prior tickets.
Also known as driver improvement class or safe driver class. For court or license issues, it has to be a state certified program.
We also do DUI classes.

I have a small Etsy shop. It does not bring in much money, but for me it's fun and relaxing. I make and sell small scout themed ornaments. I spend anywhere from 2-4 nights a week in scout meetings (volunteering), it's our life

I buy, maintain, and rent out houses - 3 long term rentals and one short term rental (near Disney). This year I made -$1,000 (not a typo). It was my best year yet!

In my younger days, I did security as an off duty officer, I taught the AAA safe driver course, and was a Disney Travel Agent.

I am saddened by my son commenting that his almost full time job (32 hrs/week) is exhausting. Where is the hustle? Between overtime and part time, I used to call my 60 hour week my short week.

In Virginia, you can voluntarily attend a driver improvement and earn "good points" as a hedge against future points.

Giving your son the benefit of the doubt, it's not always about how long you work, but what work you need to do. Something that's mentally taxing could be as exhausting as doing something mundane but for longer time.

I appreciate you trying to support him but, I must confess, I raised him soft . When your order ahead from Lowes, he is the guy who runs around the store and gets your order ready. Not really mentally or physically taxing. I know because my first post retirement job was working at the same Lowes.
