We'll be at my inlaws since we don't have our main floor bathroom working and MIL can't do stairs right now. I just wrote down what we're bringing:

mashed potatoes, stuffed mushrooms (DH makes those), stove top stuffing (MIL makes a sausage one that I don't like), broccoli with cheddar cheese sauce, orzo and asparagus salad, sweet potatoes and I'm thinking about making German cabbage with bacon if SIL & boyfriend will be there. For dessert, I'm bringing Costco's pumpkin pie and a chocolate pudding pie. OH, can't forget the cranberry sauce, whole berry and regular from the can of course.
MIL is baking the turkey too.

I'm going to tape the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade so we can watch it over the weekend :)

How are your plans coming along?

Which football game will you be watching? That Costco's pumpkin pie and the chocolate pudding pie should disappear rapidly.

My menu:
Turkey (12-14 lbs)
Gravy
Family recipe stuffing
Cornbread dressing
Scalloped Oysters
Cranberry Sauce
Green Bean Casserole
Rolls
Pumpkin Pie
Peanut Butter Pie (I don't like Pumpkin pie and since I am the one doing all the cooking, I should get something I want lol).

The morning of Thanksgiving I will make Cinnamon Rolls and watch the parade with my mom. It's a tradition.

I will also be making a Pumpkin Roll for my boyfriend. It's the one thing he looks forward to this time of year!

I am currently working on my Christmas meal list, which will be served the weekend before Christmas. I won't be cooking ON Christmas this year, so I had to make the big meal anyways!

I just wrote out my menu yesterday, so that I could make a shopping list. I've decided that we've gotten a little side dish crazy!!:rotfl:

Turkey- 18 or 20lbs
stuffing (Mom makes )
Mashed potatoes/ gravy
mac n cheese
sweet potato casserole
candied yams ( For my Dad only )
green been casserole
plain green beans ( for my sis )
corn
whole cranberry sauce
can cranberry sauce ( for Dad...he's picky )
collards ( for my poor Southern DH who's stuck w/a bunch of yankees :lmao: )
rolls
deviled eggs ( for dd because she's a strange child )

for dessert:
pumpkin pie
apple pie
pecan pie
pumpkin cheesecake
cookies
brownies

and I will make ALL of it myself , except for the stuffing because for some reason my Mom won't share her recipe.

13yo dd wants chicken tenders and stove top stuffing. Kinda sad really, but she will go to her grandma's with her dad that weekend and get more food than she can eat. So guess I get chicken tenders and stove top.

We'll be having...

Turkey 14-16lbs (courtsey of DH's job, that's the "holiday" gift)
Gravy
Stuffing w/ celery and apples in it (my mom makes that)
Corn Pudding
Green Bean Casserole
Rolls
Sweet Potatoes
Cranberries (from the can for my dad only)
Rolls
Mashed potatoes
Cheesy taters too!

Dessert:
Apple Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Homemade whip cream

I just hope there will left overs for a sandwich later!

Turkey
Ham (Mom's friends are bringing)
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy
Baked Sweet Potatoes w/ Streusal Topping
Green Beans
Steamed Carrots/Broccoli/Cauliflower
Cranberry Sauce
Rolls

All home made from scratch. Its a tradition.

Dessert: Mom's in charge!
Appetizer: Veggie Tray: Brother is getting assigned this one, which really means he will buy the stuff and I will put it together when he gets here. Baby brothers never change :cool2:
Wine: DH takes care of that for me.
Dishes: Hello boys...

And no In laws this year!!!!!

Yum, that orzo and asparagus salad and the stuffed mushrooms sound delicious - care to share some recipes?

We always go to some friends who are gourmet cooks, so the menu changes every year, but we bring a side dish and homemade cranberry sauce, so maybe one of those will work.

no homemade pies. are you kidding.next are you planning to watch last years lions football game as well.

make pies pumpkin, pecan and apple. also for a side dish a left over pizza would be nice.

happy thanksgiving

all homemade like above ..but am going to mil ...and i love it.

It's just the 6 of us this year (Dh, our 4 kids, and me) so we're debating going out for dinner!:woohoo: We figure it will probably actually be cheaper to go out, and we won't have to do all the work!

But, if we were to stay home and cook (which we might do...haven't completely made up our mind yet!) the menu would probably be

Turkey
Sweet potato Casserole (Ruth's Chris recipe that you can find by googling)
Mashed potato casserole http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/The-Best-Mashed-Potatoes/Detail.aspx
cranberry sauce (I make mine fresh)
Some type of green beans or maybe salad? Haven't decided...but not green bean casserole...probably more like a green bean with almonds type dish
stuffing (just from a package, probably pepperidge farm or similar)
cranberry glop http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Cranberry-Glop/Detail.aspx (my favorite food, EVER!!!)
cranberry bread, corn bread (can you tell I LOVE cranberries?:rotfl: )

For dessert maybe pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake or other type of cheesecake, maybe apple pie? I'm the only one that doesn't like pumpkin pie, but everyone else loves it...so definitely pumpkin pie plus one other dessert.

OOh, forgot about that. I always make pumpkin cheesecake, too!

And I LOVE cranberry anything too!!! :goodvibes

Ever since I got my first place I have been doing the holidays. My mom is my sous chef but I really don't like people in the kitchen when I cook.
This year, I am having both grandmas, mom, dad, stepmom, her mom, 1 or 2 soldiers who can't go home and a couple of ex boyfriends.

My menu

Turducken - Me and my dad want to try
Fried Turkey
Sausage and Sage dressing
Corn Pudding
Collards and kale cooked with smoked turkey
Mac and Cheese
Braised short Ribs - in case dad and I don't like the turducken
Mashed Potatoes and wild mushroom gravy
Candied Yams
Roasted Brussel Sprouts
Canned Cranberries - None of us like the fresh stuff
Sauerkraut with pig tails - It is a weird maryland thing
Rutabagas- Grandma loves these
Yeast Rolls
Potato Salad

Dessert
Creme de menthe Brownies
Sweet Potato Cheesecake
Mincemeat Pie - Only for Dad
Sweet Potato Pie - We don't eat pumpkin pie in my house
German Chocolate Cake

I think that is it unless I see something amazing at the farmers market.

Guess I need to start thinking about this!! We always do Thanksgiving with our neighbors, so I kind of have to wait and see what she wants to do. Last year they raved about the andouille sausage stuffing, so I'll probably do that again. Either a turkey or ham. Then who knows what else! Pumpkin pie, for sure. Thanks for the reminder of how quickly this is coming up!! Guess I need to get with my neighbor soon!

Green Beans with Mushrooms and Bacon

Yield: about 6 servings

6 slices bacon
1 lb. green beans, stems removed
1 lb. medium-sized mushrooms, each cut into quarters
1 large red onion, sliced
1/2 c. water
2 T. cider vinegar
1/2 t. salt
1/8 t. crushed red pepper

In a 12-inch skillet over medium-low heat, cook bacon until crisp; remove to paper towels to drain

To bacon drippings remaining in skillet over medium heat, add whole green beans, mushrooms, onion, water, vinegar, salt, and crushed red pepper; cover skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are tender, about 20 minutes.

To serve, spoon bean mixture into bowl. Crumble bacon and sprinkle over beans.

we're actually doing Thanksgiving at my sisters this year, so I dont have to plan the menu this year, but Im planning on bringing my Lasagna that everyone loves and some Mexican Chicken Casserole ( for something different) and of course some pumpkin cheesecake..

Not sure yet what everyone else is bringing.. but cant wait.. Im hungry!!:goodvibes

We will be at home this year, as we are almost every year and I will be cooking for 9. We are having

Turkey
Stuffing
Mac and Cheese
Sweet potatoes
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy
Green beans
Corn Casserole
Rolls
Cranberry sauce

and for yummies afterwards...
Pumpkin pie
Cake
Turtle Pie
Banana and Vanilla Wafer pudding.

Makes me hungry to think about it and tired thinkning about cooking and cleaning up from it all.

Sadly Dh won't get to be here, he will still be out of town for work. I am trying not to be bummed because I don't want to ruin the holiday spirit, but its so sad and he will be greatly missed!:sad1:
