Side By Side Double Stroller?

We are going to WDW in November, and had plans to bring our double stroller (side by side). However, I had read in previous posts where others had problems with these kinds of strollers at WDW. Can you tell me why?

I would like to avoid bringing my other double stroller (front to back) because it is so much heavier and takes up so much space.

Thanks!

Just curious, why not rent at WDW instead of hauling yours around?

I am curious to see the posts on this topic myself, because I have a side by side Graco DuoRider that I took to WDW 3 weeks ago and had no problems at all. We have had our stroller for more than two years, and it has large baskets and reclining seats and we did not even consider renting. Plus, we used it on the boardwalk and on our long hauls from AKL and BWI self parking to our room. On late nights with a tired 2 and 4 year old I was glad I had it.

The reasons I did not like having a side by side were many--with my front to back you can drive it onto the monorail in any car by going to one side of the divider. With the side by side, you either have to fold it, or hope the wheelchair car is available. On the trams I found it much more awkward to deal with getting the side by side on there than I ever have my other one. Going through crowded areas I never felt like I had enough room and getting out of the MK while they were filming the Christmas parade was a nightmare. Even finding a place to park it was more difficult due to the width.

As far as why one would bring instead of rent--you can't see your kids in those Disney ones, even if they start to get out (unitl they are already half way there) they are hard plastic which I would not want to sit on all day especially if it is hot, they have no decent storage, you can't take them with you offsite or to your resort for the walk back to the room. And for me, the biggest reason of all, when I walk through the gate, I am ready to hit the first attraction not waste the first 15 minutes in the park by getting a stroller.

We're taking a side by side umbrella stroller since they're easier to fold on the buses. We rented last year, but there wasn't any storage space in the rentals and since we keep going back it was cheaper to buy a double stroller than keep renting one.

Ok, good reasons, was just curious as I was thinking hauling along to and from the airports, buses, etc.

You can tell I am beyond the stroller stage. More likely I am closer to the walker/wheelchair stage. :p

you actually need your stroller in the airport and getting to and from the bus stop, so it's not a cause of 'hauling' it anywhere - more a case of using it then folding it up and getting on the plane/bus, and using it again at the other end.

We took our side by side and had not problems with it. We were able to get it in everywhere and both girls were able to see everything rather than the one in the back trying to see over the first one.

I find I would rather take my own stroller since the rental strollers are only good in the parks - once you leave the park you have to lug the kids and everything else around.

Coming from someone who has done it three ways, side by side, front to back, and two separate strollers, I prefer the side by side (DH liked the front to back). I never felt it was too wide, in fact I was able to wheel it onto the boat from Ft. Wilderness, but I just had to stay up front, you couldn't wheel it all the way to the back, the aisle got narrower as you went down it.

DH said it was two awkward when it did need to be folded up, you needed two hands to do it. The front to back was easier to fold but it was heavier and sometimes the kids would fight over who got the front. I loved the side by side for parades and naps (both seats reclined, they would nap together on occasion).

Our last trip we were down to one single again after a few years, it was wonderful!

If you like your side by side normally, I say bring it.

Thanks for the feedback! I think I will keep to my original plan, and bring the side by side stroller.

we were just there and I brought my double umbrella side by side and it wasnt a problem at all. Much easier to use than my duoglider around the park.

we used a side by side duoglider on our last trip too (DSs are 2 and 4) and had no problems at all! We had used a sit and stand on our previous trip and though it wasn't really a problem, it's just cumbersome to fold and you can't leave anything in the basket when you fold it. We have a front/back duoglider that I used when my youngest DS was a baby but it is now going in the Fall consignment sale at our church. I found the side by side one (in a very old and very loud pattern) at a garage sale for $8 and thought it would work well. We both liked it SOOOOO much more now that the kids are a little older that I'm on the hunt for a newer (but not brand new) model just like it. :)

We had no fights about who sat in front, both could see equally well, we had no problems fitting through anywhere and it folds up much more compact than the front/back on did. It wasn't a big deal having to fold it for the monorail b/c both of our boys wanted to be out of the stroller on the monorail anyway. We also rolled right onto the ferry boats for the WL as well as the Friendship Launches between MGM and the Beach Club. :)

It is a side by side. It is no wider than a standard wheel chair. It fits thru standard doorways. It folds easily and has a sholder strap that makes it easy to carry onto busses. It is very light weight. We also had no problem wheeling it onto to the monorail cars and we did not have to use the wheelchair accessible car either.

We also loved the fact that each seat reclined separately. It costs a bit more than the Graco but I got a really good deal on a new one in 2003 on Ebay.
