Sick of Stitch at WDW

they do seem to push him awful hard, especially for a character from a movie that was far from a break away hit $$$$-wise

We were there 2 weeks ago and yes I noticed how much Stitch stuff there was but we just kind of let it roll off. I will admit thought that the wakeup call got annoying.

We love Stitch!! We just got back from WDW last night and could not get enough of Stitch stuff down there. My daughter is a huge Stitch fan-in fact one of the 20 or so words she can say is Stitch (or Steesch in her world). We came home with a chocolate scented Stitch, Stitch watch, Stitch jacket, and Stitch pin, in addition to 2 of the stuffed Stitches that we had to bring with us from home. We also took more photos with the 'real' Stitch and had to stop everytime we saw him or his merchandise at the request of hearing "Steesch" screamed out from the stroller.

Oh, and whoever said Merchant of Venus should be called Merchant of Stitch, well it is the gift shop you're dumped into after you exit Stitch's Great Escape! After all, aren't all gifts shops at the end of attractions themed after the attraction? Buzz has a Buzz giftshop, Pooh has a Pooh giftshop, Philharmagic has a Donald giftshop, etc. I wouldn't expect anything else when exiting a Stitch attraction.

Snow White's castle (although never the official name, this is what it was going to be called) had it's name changed to Sleeping Beauty Castle shortly before Disneyland opened because that is the movie that was released at the time. That's a huge publicity stunt if I ever heard of one, and for a movie that at the time was not considered good.

I read somewhere (maybe on these boards) that this is not true; it was always going to be Sleeping Beauty's castle.

I agree there is too much Stitch, but also too much Princesses. Enough already! Why aren't they individuals anymore?

Funny you should mention this...

I've got to tell you that the absolute WORST was .......

Stitch on my ''wake up call" in the A.M. at the BWV!! :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

If that ugly thing wakes me up next week (wilderness lodge) I am going to be sooo upset!!!!!!!!!! I know there are many Stitch fans out there but I'm sorry, I just can't get into him. I wasn't crazy about the movie -- thought Bug's Life was much better and neither can hold a candle to Monster's -- and he certainly can't take the place of the MAIN MOUSE!!

Im SICK of Stitch also.....I feel like Disney is forcing people to like him. What ever happened to the classic characters. I mean the "new" Disney isnt good at all. The movies they are coming up with like Home On The Range and Chicken Little just flat out suck. Even the Disney channel has gone to shame. What happened to Duck Tales and Tales Spin and Chip N Dale and good cartoons like that. Now everything on the Disney channel is just garbage.

So yea Stitch needs to go!!!!!!

I understand what you are all saying about too much Stitch. BUT, we have only boys in my family and they LOVE Stitch! They will be in heaven when we go in Dec if they see Stitch everywhere.

We have no girls, so seeing ALL the Princess things is hard on the boys...BUT if I did have girls I would be all over them I am sure.

I know that having more of your basic Disney characters would be welcome!!!

Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, etc...
that is what I think they should concentrate on in the parks.

I couldn't agree more. :)

No offense to this board. . . but well, I'll believe what I've read in printed material (Disney bios and the like) before this board.
It's kinda like listening to Monorail drivers.
Good info, awesome help, super friendly. . . but not always 100% true. :confused3

My main point was Disney's been doing this stuff since the parks open. So this too shall pass.

I personally, am looking forward to Stitch being all over the place. . . my son LOVES him.
Just as a mom with a girl I'm sure loves all the princesses.

I wish they made more hype over Brother Bear as I thought it was better, but hey, we're there for the whole experience.

Ofcourse always wish there were more of the "main" characters. . . they need more Daisy. :)

Stitch should die!
You've got a serious lack of O'hanna...hope you enjoy your upcoming trip...and see Stitch everywhere you turn.:)

I tend to agree that it is a little overboard with Sitch but it is where Disney is making its money now. Stich has more collectors now then any other character(esp pins) . Soon it will be someone else in the meanwhile just try and enjoy the little blue guy .

Actually, Sleeping Beauty was a terrible flop when it first came out too. It ended up costing more to make than it made during it's initial release, it did not draw crowds.
Alot of the movies we think of today as Disney Classics took their time becoming that way. Pinnocio, is another good example of a flop turned classic.
.

coming from the 50s it was such a different time i don't think you can really compare the two...would they be as popular today without dvds in 1/2 the minivans on the road ? going to a movie was a really big deal then and except for matinees not a "kid" thing...i can't imagine my parents taking us to a night time movie and my dad ( or any of my friends' dads)sitting through cinderella :rotfl: just wouldn't have happened ... dad's weren't "enlightened " like they are now ;) . i just can't picture stitch having the staying power of say peter pan so it's kind of annoying to see him so shamelessly promoted like disneyland was on the original wwof disney ( :rotfl: in other words, maybe not a whole lot has changed after all :rotfl: )

Yeah I agree. My family was a little sick of everything Stitch. He is cute and I know a lot of people love him, but I agree that it would be nice to see other characters too. I went into the Merchant of Venus at MK and joked to my husband it should be called the Merchant of Stitch. Way too much stitch stuff. It might backfire because people might get sick of him.

I used to love merchant of venus so much as a kid...with all the wigs and such...and just the various things...like a boutique...it made you feel as if you were really in a "tomorrow land"...and now it is all stitch...that is when I lost it...I LOVED STITCH as a character but now it is just like STITCH IS THE NEW MICKEY!

here's some pictures from us as kids enjoyind the good 'ol merchant of venus taking the traditional 'wig' pictures:

Stitch was everywhere and while I really liked the Movie, the cartoon on Disney Channel is strange. I figured Stitch was the flavor of the month.

Is it just me or does Stitch remind you of someone? I sort of feel he is Disney's version of the Tasmanian Devil over at Warner Bros.

I actually hope Chicken Little is a great success and that cute little chicken replaces Stitch on all the monorails.

I was okay with Stitch, not a huge fan and didn't just hate him/it BEFORE going to the World last week, but I think now I am really sick and tired of him. LOL They are shoving Stitch down your throat! Everywhere, everything is Stitch! Stitch on the wake up calls, Stitch plastered on the monorails, more Stitch toys than any other character - I daresay even Mickey! - in the gift shops. Ok, just had to get that off my chest. LOL

The worst is Stitch, and everyone looking for him, invading the rest rooms.

Come on. Is NOTHING sacred?

(actually, this is kind of a cute idea, but on top of ALL the other Stitch stuff EVERYWHERE, it's just TOO much!)

My kids would enjoy The Disney Channel so much more if Disney would bring back Duck Tales and Chip and Dale! The House of Mouse is OK because it includes some classic characters, but we'd LOVE to see more of the "classics" shown during their own time slot.

We'd also love to see some older Disney movies, such as The Apple Dumpling Gang, the original Freaky Friday, Escape from Witch Mountain, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, etc.....on The Disney Channel!

Rather than focusing on Stitch so much, I would like to see a variety of characters at all places. I do like Stitch, but I also like lots of other characters. The parks could do so much (!) with a variety of characters! I'd like to be surprised each morning with a randomly selected wake-up call. That way, you wouldn't get the same character twice during your stay.

One of the Disney exec's must have decided they were gonna ram this caricature down the publics throat at all costs despite their lukewarm, at best, reception of him (Stitch)???

That's how it is a lot nowadays with a lot of things. Previously movies and caricatures came out, and sure there was some advertising, but it was only a hit if it did well. Only time and the publics reaction would tell. Now things are so pre-hyped and they tell us it's a hit before anyone has even had a chance to see or experience it! "We're gonna now tell you what is a big hit and what isn't beforehand". Exactly what they are (and have been) trying to do with Stitch.

The movies they are coming up with like Home On The Range and Chicken Little just flat out suck.

Did you get to see a preview of Chicken Little? I know it comes out next month.

I really don't know how much Lilo & Stitch did in the movies ($$$), but those DVDs sure did sell. They must be getting feedback from somewhere that this is a likable character (menaing people like him). There are plenty of other characters that I would like to see, such as Maid Marion & Lady Cluck!

Whoever suggested a classic character breakfast was on the right track - you can experience this at Chef Mickey's.

I do like Stitch, but not the ride. It needs help.
