My family has been sick our whole trip, just wanted to vent because I am so disappointed. DD started the stomach bug 3 hours after we arrived late Sunday night. She was feeling better and we had a little park time for 2 days and a lot of park time yesterday. Last night DH started with it, and DD woke up with a fever 103. They spent the entire day in bed today. They are both doing better, but still miserable. I tried to "make lemonade" today, sat in a hammock and sat by the resort pool while they were sleeping, but it was so depressing to see kids and families having fun. Didn't want to go to a park alone today and leave them both sick so sick. Can't believe this happened to us, we haven't had a stomach bug in 5 years. Also frustrated at all the wasted money, have only used 3 days out of 5 on our tickets (and 2 of those days were short) plus the cost to fly here and the hotel. At least we don't have the dining plan. This will likely be our only vacation this year. Would love to extend our stay but the resorts are full this weekend and it would cost a lot to change the flights. Disney will not do anything for us, correct? Obviously not Disney's or the airline's fault that my family got sick, but it really stinks!! Somehow I have not gotten sick, worried that we might not be able to fly home on Saturday morning if end up getting it. Thanks for listening to my major disappointment!

That's awful! I'm sorry about your family's illness and your trip. Did you purchase any trip insurance? I'm not sure if that would cover anything though.

I hope they get better quickly...pixiedust:

Thats horrible! I truely feel sorry for you and your sick family members. I would be so upset. If you have insurance on your trip maybe they would do something for you? But not sure. I always purchase the insurance even though I hate to pay for it but Im affraid if I don't something would come up. Again not sure if it would help you out with your situation. Hope everyone is feeling better. It doesn't hurt to talk to someone at your resort front desk, maybe they'll give you a good returning discount or credit for your unused tickets? Just ask.

We purchased trip insurance for our trip this past December. My husband and both sons got the flu while at Disney. The insurance didn't do anything at all. I was really disappointed. They said they don't cover flu.

I hate that happened on your trip. I felt the same way.

Hope your vacation ends on a better note.

I am so sorry this had to happen at this time. :worried: You've come to the right place to vent though. I am sure many of us on the boards feel your pain and have had our vacations wiped out by illness or washed out because of the weather. I agree with the PP. It can not hurt to speak to someone at the front desk to see what they can do to lessen the blow.

I hope you don't catch anything and everyone else recovers real soon.

Oh, I am so sorry! You are living my nightmare--we leave in 10 days for the World and that stomach flu is really swirling around here...

Hope your husband and daughter are much better quickly and that you are able to escape without catching it. What a bummer.:(

Thanks everyone. DH is better but DD has gotten worse, I'm at peace now with the vacation, had my cry tonight. Just want DD to get better, can't break this fever, her doctor said to wait and see how she does overnight. I don't know if I can possibly manage to not catch it, between the two of them in this little hotel room with one bath. I've called the front desk several times and there was nothing they could do. I did not purchase trip insurance, but I could see how that wouldn't help (we made it here and are staying in the hotel). We'll come back some day, though I feel like I've lost a big part of the magic.

When you call the front desk you are talking to a call center, not the resort you are staying at. What were you expecting the front desk to do?

As for the magic being lost, I am sorry to hear that. Maybe when you get home and everyone is past the sickness your outlook will be different.

So sorry to hear about your family being sick. That's awful. The stomach virus is really going around here. Everyone in my family but me got it and they never catch anything like this. The school nurse even commented how it's really going thru their school.

 Hope your dd gets better soon.

I hope your DD is feeling better today. This happened to us on our Christmas trip. We had a doctor come to the room for our DD. Then myself and DS got sick. We spent most of the time in our room. We were going to check out on the 29th, first told they no rooms available for us to extend but asked that morning and we were able to stay 2 more nights. Very thankful for the extra time to see more of the holiday activities.

I can see you are from MA. It is going around big time here. Myself, DD and DS son had it two weeks ago. Half of the teachers in my DD's school were out with it too. My DH has been home for two days with it.

Are you giving her anything for the fever? I might be missing something but why are you calling the front desk several times?

Hope they get better soon. Make sure to stay hydrated. The ER's are packed with people dehydrated from the stomach bug.

Yes, I know it has been going around so it was not a shock that DD got sick, but don't know who she caught it from. I called the front desk a few times because I wanted to extend our stay, but there was nothing they could do because most of the resorts are booked solid this weekend. Also wish they could do something about the unused days on our park tickets. I want a do over!! They are still sick and room-bound today, but at least DD's fever is gone!!

So sorry to hear this is happening to you. We had a similar thing happen to our family when we went in January. It was all of our first time ever going to Disney and had been saving for over 7 years to take our 3 kids. On our plane ride, my son didn't seem himself. Once we arrived at the resort he had a high fever and despite giving him motrin it would not lower. For the first three days he was sick in bed and was sleeping almost the whole time, wouldn't eat or drink. We ended up having to take him to emerge. :( It ended up that he had some type of infection and was put on antibiotics. Luckily we were able to enjoy our last three days at the park but it was a complete nightmare. There seemed to be quite a lot of people sick there too when we were there and my husband and I each had a stomach bug for a day when we were there too. I sincerely hope that your family is all feeling better very soon and that you get to have at least one complete day of magic.

We had the trip insurance and I didn't even bother to ask if they would do anything for us, as I'm sure they don't do anything when it comes to a flu or other related illnesses such as this. They did cover the cost of our taxi too and from the hospital and they upgraded us to a family suite from a regular sized room (after I asked very nicely) so that my son could have a bed to himself.

Again I am very very sorry about the nightmare trip and I sincerely hope that you are all feeling better soon. Worst possible timing EVER. Our family is never sick either and was super surprised when our son got that sick.

We were hit really bad as well, 2 years ago in August. We planned Our Trip Of A Lifetime. My husband and I, our 5 beautiful children:grouphug:, and my mom. First time traveling with all 5 kids, surprised them with the trip, had everything planned..soup to nuts!!!! Saved for a year, budgeted and sacrificed.. And it went downhill from the minute we got there. My 4 year old's son ears ruptured on the plane, we all ended up in a clinic, and got stuck in Disney due to Hurricane Irene!! Five Strep Throat, 2 Sinus and double ear infections..and my poor mother, urinary tract infection:sick::sick::sick::sick::sick:.. It was unreal!!!! To top it off, we had to move hotels due to the hurricane and the taxi driver drove us to the airport instead of our new hotel!!! My kids have never been that sick. It was bad. But the good news is that I LOVE Disney:wizard: with all my heart :love:and my children want to go back!!! Hopefully one day that will happen:cloud9:!!!!

Kimber and CTmom. - So sorry to hear about your sick trips. It is heartbreaking. I hope your families have a glorious return someday soon.

Been back a week today and I never caught it. I am a school nurse and was super diligent with hand washing and not touching ANYTHING they had touched (turning off faucets with a tissue, not sharing hand towels, not touching the remote etc) and it worked. DD was sick for 9 days! Doctor thinks she had two separate viruses. I sincerely hope we didn't infect too many vacationers.

I pleaded with a manager at the resort and she was able to give us each 2 park days to use in a future trip (but they are on KTTW cards - does that mean they can on be used if we stay on property?). So I was thankful for that at least.

Looking back at the photos I have, the trip looks glorious!! So I am adjusting my attitude and going with that, making a photo book to remember the magical moments that we did have.

Healthy travels to you all!!

Oh wow, just read the whole thread now--I am so sorry you had that happen on your trip. But glad you managed to salvage some good moments from this trip, and that you have a reason to return.

One way to get trip, insurance to cover illnesses is to get a doctor's note that says you were too ill to participate in your vacation. It definitely sucks all around being sick on vacation. (((((Hugs)))))

I am so happy that they gave you a couple of day passes for the parks at least and I'm happy that you never got sick. It's nice that you have wonderful memories and photos to remember all of the positive aspects of your trip. We have already started saving for our next trip (since our last once in a lifetime trip ended up not being the greatest). I guess it's good to have a reason to go back. Hopefully Karma will be on our sides the next time we vacation. :)
