Sick again and thinking I am not ready at all

I have had a very rough winter and I am sick...again. I have a double ear infection and sinus infection. Any training is out for this week (maybe Friday) b/c I can't even move w/o pain.

My longest run/walk was a month ago and only 7 miles. Since then I have been sporadically able to cross train only. Every time I recovered I got sick again, which is very unlike me.

I was planning to walk/run the princess, but now I am worried I will injure myself trying.

If there wasn't a sweep time I wouldn't worry at all. But that sweep is looming.

I am still going to go out and try it, but I know my body isn't ready. Which stinks b/c my training was going so well before the frigid weather and illness deterred me. Sigh.

Should I try anyway or just chalk it up to bad luck and curl up in bed that morning and hit the parks?

As you have paid your entry fee, why not give it a go??

Just walk and take it slow, if you need to stop then do, you can catch the bus to the finish line, if not then you will end up with a extremly nice medal.

I'd definitely step off. Do what you can, don't push too much in the beginning maybe just cutting the edge of the sweepers and trying to leave some energy in the tank for the last half. If you feel good at that point, then you can see how it feels if you are able to go faster.

You may surprise yourself and manage quite well with the trainig you had earlier.

I think if you are going to be there anyway, you might as well give it a shot. The worst that will happen is that you won't finish. The best that will happen is that you wil finish and you will get a medal. Remember, did not finish is still better than did not start!

Give it a try! You'll never know unless you do :) If you're not aiming to finish in a specific time, I don't see why you can't. My first half marathon, I hadn't done more than 6 miles and I still finished doing R/W intervals. It was close to 3 hours but I still finished. I also did a 15K where I had an injury that took me out for 6 weeks and left me with 2 weeks to train before the race date. I gave that one a shot and finished as well - not a great time but I was just happy to finish!

You have gotten great adice. the best I can add is to not push training now. Do whatever you can to get better. rest, rest adn more rest. Once you feel 100%, you can throw ins some easy short walks, but no more. best thing you can do for your bodyis be 100% ocme race day. :wizard::wizard:

I say go for it. Rest up this week, do a few light workouts, but dont try to push yourself. You aren't going to gain any serious fitness in the week prior to the event, and this way you're body has plenty of time to heal up and make sure what you've got is running at 100%. If you can clear 7 miles you should be able to make it through the half, especially with the rest of the field to cheer you on. A walk/jog pace should keep you ahead of the sweepers. get yourself a few minutes in the bank in the beginning so you're not constantly worrying about it. Remember to back off before you get exhausted and to keep moving. Assuming they're doing 16 min/mile sweep thats a 3.75 on a treadmill, you might want to hop on a treadmill and see what that feels like so you have a reference. Good Luck :)

Go for it. Don't push yourself too hard, just keep the WISH mantra in your head. You still showed up and tried.
