If anyone is going to watch the shuttle launch, it has been moved from the 6th aug to 7th aug. We are STILL going to miss it as we fly on the 8th!

Thats brilliant news, we don't land until 8:06pm in Tampa on the 6th so that day was not possible for us. Anytime between 7th-21st we will be there, even 22nd is possible, would be great to see it launch while on the Magic at Port Canaveral.

Does anyone know what time they tend to launch at that time of year?

I have an ADR at Yachtsman's for 6pm on the 7th, which I would obviously cancel for the chance to see a shuttle launch but would be great if I could do both!

Thanks Wayne, I wouldn't cancel the reservation until the day as I know the launches can be delayed or cancelled at short notice.

I'm really looking forward to the launch as it will be possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity. DW has said she doesn't care if it goes up at 2am, she wants to be there to witness it! :thumbsup2

How long do you think it would take to get to the Space Park in Titusville from OKW?

Took us a good hour last time but we saw no traffic at all. Got there about 2 hours before launch. It was so hot in Titusville, make sure you take plenty to drink and wear hats.
Would be great if it was 2am, would love to see a night launch.
See you there if not before:goodvibes

Fingers crossed for an evening launch as we have AKL on the itinary for that day and the Donald's character breakfast.
Is Titusville the place to watch the launch Wayne? We have never seen one before but it would make my DH and DS's day if they launched whilst we were there.

Thanks for the heads up. I just shuffled the food around so we miss Nine Dragons and not 'Ohana. Plus that means it doesn't mean late night at baseball with launch next day!

We will also probably go to Titusville (since seeing some of the pics Wayne took).

A DIS meet would be a great idea. Fingers crossed that it launches before the 12th as we go home then :sad1:

How would you go about getting to see a launch if you don't drive?

I would love to go and think it would be a fantastic experience for my Daughters but i have no idea how i could get there.

No idea how you would go on. Taxi is only option I can think of without a car but cost would be crazy.

We only have a full size car booked, if we get upgraded to a 7 seater then you could fit in with us but won't know until arrival. We usually get upgraded with Dollar but using Budget again this trip.

Thanks for the info. We arrive on the 7th so may get to see it. We saw one go up Sept06 and its not to be missed.

Do you need any kind of tickets to watch the launch from titsuville? has anyone got directions or know of a good website to get them off. I'm so hoping that it doesn't get delayed any furthur than the 11th as we fly home on this day. A launch is something we've always wanted to see. Oh one more thing if you need tickets or anything where do you get them from and how much????

The launch is currently scheduled for 9:07am as can be seen on http://spaceflightnow.com/tracking/index.html. This is great site to keep track of possible changes! I'm into all that spacey stuff, but unfortunately they always postpone launches when I'm there :(. I really hope I can make it back before the Space Shuttle retires next year!

The thing with launches is that they usually only have a window of about 2 hours, which is narrowed down as the launch approaches. If it doesn't happen during that window, they normally have to wait about 24 hours before the next attempt. It has to do with all sorts of orbit calculations but don't worry, I won't bore you with those ;). If you're (very very) interested though, Space Mission Analysis & Design (or SMAD) by Wiley and Larson is an excellent read!

was thinking of having a beach day on sunday 9th but thinking of changing to 7th now and checking out the launch. If date is not changed how likely is the 9am launch likely to stay the same?
As i said afterwards we thinking of heading to a beach and some breakfast/lunch any local beach and restaurant recomendations?

I would also be interested in this? How long approx does it take to get to Titusville from the Orlando/Kissimee area (not sure where we're staying until nearer our travel date 21 july)
