Shuttle launch again--those who have seen it, when should we leave for it?

I'd like to try for one of the state parks like Jetty Park or Alan Shepherd park. Anyone care to recommend when we should plan to be there? It's a 5 pm launch, and it'll take an hour to get there (on a good day)...wondering if we need to leave Orlando around noon to get through traffic and find a spot? Or it that overkill?

I am starting to get excited now, they haven't cancelled yet!

I have not attempted to see one since I was a kid and we stayed at a dive hotel directly across the street from a viewing area. (got scrubbed at 9 sec. till lift-off)

We are hoping that the Feb one gets delayed until our March break or will shoot for the summer one.

From what I have been reading you need to get there 5-6 hours ahead now that we are down to the last 3.

I believe this guy is a NASA employee, if not he is an avid follower and he has a great site:
Shuttle Launch Viewing

Good luck and have a great time!!!:goodvibes

We went many years ago and trafic stopped about 25 miles away....major congestion. If you want to see the launch, I am pretty sure that you will have to get there the day before, get a room , then get a viewing spot. Good luck
