I heard last July on board the Wonder (at the photo desk itself) that they were in the process of doing away with Shutters/MyCruisePhotos and getting the FANTASTIC Disney PhotoPass program on board the ships.
Any word or further scuttlebutt on this?

Not yet. I just preordered my cruise photo package through MyCruisePhotos.

Well, since Shutters is still taking orders, I don't think so.

Personally, I like the photos taken by Shutters (professional photographers) better than the PhotoPass photos (CMs with basic camera training).

I befriended a Shutters employee, and she had pretty long-term plans with Disney.

Yeah, I am now friends with a few Shutters photographers as well, and Disney seems to be in their plans for a LOOOOONG time. I loved our pictures, so I have no complaints.

When do you go on to order your cruise photos packages? Can you do it right away once the registration opens up for your cruise?

I highly doubt the "professional photographers" as several of our photos were out of focus. We were not happy with our photos and with no candid pictures (just one landscape and one portrait in posed positions) we didn't have a whole lot of options. We had some wonderful character interactions while on board but unless one of us stepped to the side to take pictures or the handler offered to take them we have no candid pictures. The Shutters employees were also less than helpful when we were having problems finding some of our pictures and trying to operate the terminals to create our book.

I'm sorry but both the ship photographers and Photopass photographers are barely professional. They just point and click. A lot of my photos are out of focus, and had a lot of flaws. This coming from a professional photographer. Not to toot my own horn, since I do this on a daily basis I see a lot of issues. But I don't expect high quality in this setting.

I'm sure if you asked the Kodak employees who sued to take pictures in the Disney parks they would have said the same thing. Disney will use something until it's no longer useful to them just like how they contracted with the big red boat. When they decided to run a cruise line themselves they stopped using the big red boat. When they decided to introduce the photopass Kodak pulled out around the same time for financial reasons. If Disney wants to add the ships to photopass they will when they want to.

If shutters leaves whoever comes in will follow Disney guidelines. If Disney wants photographers doing more spontaneous pictures shutters will do it just as well as photo pass.

It just makes no sense why they haven't gone to photopass already..

They have ths site all set up...
When you go to the site it already asked you
"where were you photos taken?" Disney world, disney land, wide world of sports..
It should be simple to add disney cruise line..

This way also you could order photos and do photo Merch from home instead of being rushed on the cruise!

Call me a little cynical...but I think the "rushed on the cruise" to select your photos is part of the sales tactic (i.e. "get it now, because you can't get it later")....so you are more likely to buy something you are on the fence about if you know you don't have the option to get it later.

Not if you don't like the pictures. The quality of our pictures was very poor to ho-hum. I wouldn't pay that much money for poor pictures.

Thanks for the replies ... I just found Photopass easier to deal with than Shutters. The pictures have been fine both ways ... :)

That actually makes total sense because with photopass you can pick what photos you want printed or download them all to your computer if you have memory maker. Where as shutters prints all the photos and sells the cd for a much higher price plus they don't let you pick and chose the borders you want.
I think it would be great if you could get all your Disney World and DCL pictures in one location for one cost
