Shutters. Need I say more?

It's a good idea to check your folder periodically, as photos go missing for any number of reasons.. Whether you do it every day or every third day, or only once, is up to your comfort zone.

It appears that the AquaDuck photos may not be added to the folder and quickly as the photos taken by the actual Shutters staff, so it's probably a good idea to check the next day or two after riding AquaDuck to see if they are there.
Given that it's just me and my 6 year old at that time, I can't see us going to a kiosk everyday..I definitely know he won't want to. What deck is it on? We are staying midship deck 9.

Shutters is on deck 4, port side, midship. How about time your child may be in Oceaneer's? You'd be on your own then.

I'm only planning on him being there once...on a day when I do Palo brunch and a little spa time. The rest of the cruise he will be with me...unless he wants to be at the kid's club more..but I doubt it. I work a lot and our vacations are total quality time for us.

Well, my only suggestion is that you need to let him know that at least once during the cruise you're going to have to stop by Shutters to confirm your photos. Maybe, if you get the smaller package, he can help you pick out which photos?

He may like that. I'll try to do every other day. Thanks so much for the info!

We've never had issues with Shutters. Considering all the guests they see I think they do a great job. I check my pictures periodically throughout my cruises. It's not that difficult.

I say the woman was in the wrong for letting that lady have it. That lady doesn't have anything to do with it. That's like you having trouble let's say with your cell phone and you call and let that person have it. Some people are just so very rude.

I agree with this statement. She should have complained to Disney Cruise Line directly. The Shutters employee does not set policy. However, most cruisers can't differentiate between the Shutters employees and DCL cast members. They see them as one and the same. If she had issues with Shutters, which IMHO were legitimate complaints, she should have talked to guest services instead. Personally I don't bother wasting my time complaining about stuff while on vacation, unless it's something really serious. If I had a legitimate complaint about something that went wrong and couldn't be "fixed" while on the cruise, then I would send a nice letter to DCL's public relations department afterward.

I couldn't disagree more. The borders Shutters insists on adding to the majority of their pictures are often not even centered correctly. They could at least have the decency to center them. Or better yet, give the customers the option to either do it themselves or not do it at all (like PhotoPass & Memory Maker which are a fraction of the cost!)

I don't know why anyone bothers with shutters. The first couple of times we sailed with dcl, we either ended up with no photos or someone else's. Garbage. What a huge waste of energy. Now we just avoid them and take our own photos.

I guess I am more of a glass half full kind of person and not half empty. I'm happy with it.

I've always found Shutters bizarre on the DCL ships. One time I overheard someone was purchasing a picture of a couple of kids jumping in front of a white background, and it wasn't even their kids they just thought they were cute and it was ok to take the picture. Disney really should end their contract with them and put photopass on the ship and ofer land and see packages.

Well I'm using them because I like to be in the photo now and again. Not a waste of money to me if I get to pose with my children on formal night and not have to carry around my camera all the time.

thanks for sharing all these thoughts! this is my 1st disney cruise and I was convinced we should to the pre-paid full photo package - but i'm thinking twice about it now. i really only need a few good photos....

I get that. I just find shutters so annoying and unreliable that I would rather not deal with them. The one time we spent time getting a more formal photo with them, the photos never surfaced.

Honestly, your in public all over the vessel. Kids are in swim suits most of the time on deck, in the pools, The Aguaduck.......People can take photos anywhere, anytime of anyone?.....in public, there is no privacy!!!

Facial ID is still emerging technology. It does work much better with the subject still.

Sorry this is a none issue.

If it is an emerging technology it seems like they should not be using it until it has fully emerged. :fish:

Then you have to include thousands of companies, other cruise lines, theme parks, casinos, hotels, arenas, security companies, government agencies, etc, etc, etc, etc,.......not to mention thousands of other technologies that are not fully developed, but are being used for their purposes as well.

No you don't. We are talking about shutters using technology that is not reliable. Basically they are experimenting with people's vacation photos. This is unacceptable. And unnecessary.

I disagree, as my earlier comment prove,......the use of the technology on such a massive scale show is effective. The system does not have to be perfect to be used. It may not be 100% perfect and still be reliable. How many folks would not be happy and would not get their shots if the system was removed, because it missed a few shots, out of thousands taken.

If the shot on aguaduck or any other shot are that important to someone, they best take their own photos. I know I do!

Yes we will just have to agree to disagree. There are many other things i agree with you on. :sunny:

Magicbands aren't perfect and don't keep others from accessing your photos. Right after my engagement trip we had tons of photos of people we had never met and were not friends of friends or anything like that on our MemoryMaker/PhotoPass section of MDE. Come to find out there was a glitch "dump" of photos right before we took some with characters so we got several different families in our account and none of ours from that meet and greet. Then on a different trip our friend thought you could take whatever tap point you wanted of a ride photo and it would just know what photo was yours. So again our account ended up with tons of photos of people we had no connection with. Once I found out that is what he was doing I informed him you had to tap for your own if you wanted to be sure you had it or you could trust the autoload system but it wasn't always accurate.

If you are worried about pervs getting hold of the photos I have to imagine most of them aren't going to spend the cost it takes to go on a Disney cruise let alone the extra cost to buy the photos from Shutters. They would just use their own cameras and nobody questions that.

This shows a great deal of naiveté on your part. Where did you get the idea pervs can't afford a Disney cruise or the cost of Shutters? See this other poster's remark below:

And as to your very last point while it can happen (people taking their own photos), you best believe that if I see someone taking pictures of my kids with their personal phone or camera, they will not have access to said phone or camera for very long!

As to the extra photos that showed up on your WDW trip, I'll ask *when* did your engagement trip take place? Also, we are talking about two very different issues. It's one thing that stray random pictures of other people were accidentally dumped by mistake into your account, than for strangers having the option to pick and choose from photos of your family from easily accessible prints and/or Shutters kiosks. Don't you think?
