DH and I will be making ADR for our August vacation, while kids go to Camp Dolphin (free for 2 hrs. by showing our Shula's receipt).

I've seen Shula's menu on-line and, although it's pricey, I think both of us can eat for a little over $100. I'm looking for advice from someone who's eaten there to let me know if this is possible. My ultimate goal is not to leave any food on our plate, since we won't be able to take leftovers (no place to re-heat it later).

For an additional $10 "split plate charge", I think we can order:

1 - 1/2 dozen Cockenoe Oysters ($10.95) - For DH
1 - Trad. Caesar Salad w/ Herbed Croutons ($8.95) - we split this
1 - 24 oz. Porterhouse (this is a combination N.Y. Strip and Filet) - DH can have the N.Y. Strip and I can get the Filet! ($38.95)
1 - Double Baked Potato ($6.95) - for Me
1 - Creamed Spinach ($6.95) - For DH

Plus two drinks and tip = a little over $100???? Anyone know if this is possible? Any would it fill us up? If not, we can always get a dessert on the boardwalk later...

47 days, 10 hrs. till we leave!!!!
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I am going to watch this thread! I was thinking of the same thing at Shula's and we will have 6 adults to eat and 5 kids to go to the Camp.

Hi!
You should have no problem meeting your budget. My Dh and I have dined
at Shula's a couple of times and love it. The sides are huge. Just two weeks ago we both ordered steaks, 1 hashbrowns, 1 baked potato, 1 salad, 1 glass of wine, 2 beer. $140.00 with tax and tip. We had a BCV so leftovers were enjoyed the next day. Be sure to let them know if you're celebrating a special occasion. You'll receive a very special dessert. Happy dining!!

Shula's is nice, but have to say Yachtsman Steakhouse over at the Yacht and Beach Club is wonderful. In our opinion, we find YS to have better meat, better presentation, and better service. The serving staff is extremely knowledgeable and very gracious. If you stick with Shula's you will have a good meal and probably enjoy it.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the information; this is good to know. We are celebrating our 15 yr. anniversary! We spent our honeymoon first on the Disney cruise, and then Disneyworld!

(Just curious - Was the special dessert - anything with Chocolate????) :sunny:

I have not been to Shula's yet but have adr for October. I posted a question a while back and got some responses very similar. The side dishes are supposed to be very big, enough to split by two or more. By what you have planned already, it seems like there will be plenty. I am pretty sure you (and I ) have made a good choice. Have a wonderful evening and happy anniversary!! :lovestruc

And hello from this Tiger to both of you

We'll be back at Shulas in August...maybe we'll see you there :)

Congratulations on your anniversary...WDW is a great place to celebrate :cheer2:

According to the Shula's menu, the sides are meant to serve 2 (or more, depending).

We've never gone to the Shula's in Orlando, but we've done the Shula's in NYC. They don't charge to split there.

We usually have the caesar salad (split), the filet (split), and the dessert (split). Last time we ordered the creme brulee, and it was enough to split.

We got out for about $60, not including tax and tip. We tip well for good service though- so our last bill there including everything was about $90.

HTH!!

Hi Tiger! Did you go to LSU? Do you live close? Are you driving to WDW (we are)? If you are driving, please give us tips - our plan right now is to leave the N.O. area around 1 p.m. (eating lunch at home) and then driving until either a bathroom break or dinner comes first, then driving straight thru and checking into the hotel for a good night sleep.

When are you going in August and where are you staying? We will be there at the Swan for 7 nights (8/4 - 8/11).

Great advice! I'll try to get DH to split the Filet, although he usually likes to get a T-Bone for himself (not offered at Shulas). So I don't know if I can convince him to share a 12 oz. filet for $40 - actually $50 when you add the $10 split charge! I think for $48.95 (this price includes the $10 split charge) we'll get a better deal because the 24 oz. Porterhouse is twice the meat and includes a N.Y strip AND a filet.

I figured I'd also keep him happy by letting him order the oyster appetizer (I don't eat them! :p )

Maybe we could share the baked potato even though I'm not too crazy about the cheese (I know, I'm weird!). He could skip the spinach side dish.

We still may be able to keep it under or close to $100 with the tip - DH used to work in the tipping industry and so he is a good tipper!

I love Shula's and have never gone for under a $100 but then again we order a bottle of wine and our own steaks. I think the steak quality is much better than YSH and we like it there and had our wedding reception there.

We live in Monroe, so I don't have any driving tips for you. I've been a lifelong Tiger fan, and my hubby actually went there 78-82. We'll be at the GF from 8/3-8/7, so looks like we'll have some overlap. Wish were were staying as long as you! We'll definitely be wearing our P&G everyday :goodvibes

You could always compromise and maybe go for the potato pancake.... that way he gets the potato and you don't have to put up with the cheese.

Also, go to www.donshula.com , and shoot an email to the Orlando location. Maybe they don't charge for entree splitting after all- and you'll save the $10! And get the extra side with the savings...

We did the "Free Camp Dolphin" for 2 hours for DD while we dined at Blue Zoo. I don't know how strict they are, but we were told we had to order TWO entrees.

Now, I don't think that is 100% fair, because DH and I can really rack up a bill on cocktails. If we each have two cocktails, that is over $40 right there. Then, we would love to share 3 or so apps, and have a dessert. I am sure some people go in there and get two cheap entrees and two glasses of water, and they can then get the Camp Dolphin for free.

I don't know why, but I am having a hard time wording this...but you get what I mean, right? I am just curious if they allow you to only get one entree, even though you are ordering plenty of other things. Let us know!

Each side dish is more than enough for two. The baked potato was one of the biggest I've ever seen - nearly football size! When we've gone DH and I have each gotten an appetizer, we split the filet mignon/lobster combo (which I think has been a fairly regular special). Then, we get the potato or the creamed spinach (not both -- too much food). We split a dessert.

The steak quality at Shula's is superior to YSH, although we also enjoy YSH. Shula's is not romantic at all. And, it's worse when there are convention groups there. Very much a "we're on an expense account and we're going to pig out on steaks and drinks and get really loud" kind of place, IMO. So, we only go when we want the best steak on property and don't care about romance.
