Shula's & Camp Dolphin

Just wondering how Shula's is and how would Camp Dolphin be for my DD7? Do they feed them at the Camp? We would only be leaving her while we have a nice quiet dinner. Or if you can recommend another Steakhouse and Child camp. We are open to suggestions.

We haven't been to shula's but my dd's loved the camp dolphin, they went twice.

A plus is that the kids camp is free if your eating at the swan or dolphin (which you are) !

Last year we dined at Shulas while the kids went to Camp Dolphin. We enjoyed our dinner very much and the kids had fun. As it turned out kids from their school, 1 in 1 of my DS's class, were also in the club that night.

I believe they do serve dinner if you want, but we arrived later or something. My kids didnt eat there, but I believe it was an option.

I've dined at Shula's twice, and have enjoyed it both times. I would probably put it on the same level with a Morton's. Great steaks, great atmosphere, what else is there right?

Shulas is in the Dolphin hotel. It is not on the DDP.

I have not dined at Shula's, but when we have dined at Blue Zoo we have left our DD9 (she was 6,7 and 8 years old the 3 times we have left her at Camp Dolphin) at CD and she LOVED it. As a matter of fact, we have gone out of our way other times to leave her at that particular kid's club. She has stayed at 4 other kid's clubs (Simba, Cub;s Den, Sandcastle and Neverland) and she says only Neverland Club at the Poly competes with CD. Our DD is an only child so she really enjoys being with other kids. She BEGS to go to the kid's clubs at WDW. if they were free, we'd leave her there all night! LOL, just kidding...kind of!

They do feed the children, but this is the only thing some folks have a problem with...they take the kids next door to Picabu to eat. All of the other kid's clubs on WDW property have food brought in. They also used to give the kids tokens and take them next door to the arcade but last time we were there (Oct 07) they said they quit doing that, but may start again.

I do want to warn you that CD is also the only kid's club that has a line when you sign out for "tips." I just want you to be prepared, I am not sure what is customary.

If you go, you will love Miss Thelma. She is a Jamaican woman that has worked there a very long time and I just love her. When we stayed at the Dolphin for our 10 year anniversary (without DD) I made a point to stop into CD to say hello to her.

Thanks for all the feedback. My DD7 is also an only child and loves to go to kids clubs anywhere. I think she will enjoy herself as well as us. We are on the DDP but since we are going to do Hoop de doo we are giving up a TS so we are going to splurge that night.

Actually there was a line for tips on the credit card slip at Simba's Cubhouse at AKL last time I took my niece. As someone who's worked in early care education for twenty years I definately wanted to tip the providers. Child care providers make less then servers here a California and I think they work just as hard. When I asked them about the tip line they said they didn't actually ever charge it and the providers didn't get the tip; so I tipped with cash instead.

DH & DS9 go to Shula's every WDW trip we have.
DD13 & I usually do something else, except this past Christmas we joined them.

We enjoyed it.
DD13 ordered some kind of crab.
I can't remember what I ordered.
We are not the HUGE steak eaters that DH & DS9 are.
They love it!!

I have never seen a line for tips in all the years she has been staying at the clubs. Of course I think child care providers deserve to make more than servers. Here in Florida, servers make $2.13 an hour so I certainly hope, and would assume, the kid's club employees make more than that! What is an appropritae tip? In restaurants, I tip 20% or the total bill. Is that what you tipped? So if your child stays there 3 hours, you leave $6 or $7?

My niece was there for three hours and I tipped $10, but I'm always a high tipper. I really appreciated it when people take good care of me and my family. My niece was super happy when we picked her up so I tipped well. Your right about Florida; child care workers are not tipped positions and therefore make a regular minimum wage. (I only mentioned California because that's where I live and work. Servers don't get a sub minimum wage here; they get a regular minimum wage and usually get higher wages because the service industry is short of staff). Because child care is not normally tipped I don't think there is a standard. I just did what felt right to me.

I think it may fall into the categories like mousekeeping...they are not true tipped positions, but of course a little something extra is appreciated. I would be curious to know if the employees at Camp Dolphin are paid less than the CMs at the WDW kid's clubs.

We put our 4 and 5 year old in Camp Dolphin and went to Shula's last year. Shula's was wonderful and the kids liked Camp Dolphin. I would recommend them both.
