The menu on Allears for O'hana lists the shrimp as "spicy." How "spicy" is it and what types of spice are on it? I'm thinking of taking my grandmother there next week. She loves shrimp, but the only spice or seasoning she would like is Old Bay. Thanks!

Not sure what kind of spice it is but I don't believe it's Old Bay. The spice was a little warm, DS actually didn't eat his shrimp because he said it was too hot.

It was pretty spicy, we liked it but I dont know if kids would...you may be able to get it not spiced...I dont think they marinate it, I think they sprinkle the spice on top before they cook it

I'm not sure about the spices, but if you plan on taking her next week, I hope you already have an ADR. I've made several calls down there for my May trip and the only ADR that was available at 'Ohana all week was only one on 5/11 and not until 8:20pm. I made the first call at exactly 90 days out. Good luck!

Yup! I already have the ressie. It's currently for a party of 5, so I figure they'll have to seat us at a table for 6 anyway so they should be able to add one more.

I don't do hot and spicey at all. I can't take it.

I LOVED the shrimp and we re-orded them twice.

I would call ahead and ask if they can make yours without any spice. I doubt that would be a problem considering how many people have allergies.

That's a good idea to ask for them without the spice. I'm sure she would love them just plain. Thanks!

Whatever they use on the shrimp at 'Ohana, it's not Old Bay, but it's similar in strength.

If you like shrimp steamed with Old Bay, you'll probably like the shrimp at 'Ohana. I find it much milder than most Maryland style shrimp. I don't like spicy food, but I love the shrimp at 'Ohana; once, I was there with a group of friends, and one mentioned that she thought the shrimp was too hot, which made me laugh, because to me, they had a very mild, sweet flavor with no "spice" at all.

That's good to know. We're used to the good Maryland-style Old Bay spicy shrimp! Maybe I'll request some with and some without the spice.

I don't like spicy foods, but I loved the shrimp there. In fact, it was my favorite and I preferred it over the other meats. It must not have been too spicy...:rolleyes1

Much like the rest of the people who have posted, I agree that the shrimp isn't all that spicy...its kind of like a mild cajun spice. But I think that they would be accomodating if you requested them without it.
