We have a DD, turning 9 in November who could pass for at least a 12 year old. She is 5 feet tall, and growing fast. Frequently she is assumed to be much older than she is, until people see her actions and hear her talk, which are more age appropriate. Do I need to concern myself with taking ID to prove her age, for when we get to the gates each morning? (We are going to WDW over Christmas.) She has a passport, which we could carry with us if necessary, but I hate to take it if it's really not needed. We are pre-buying our tickets at the Disney Store, so I'm sure I won't have to show any ID there, and she probably won't be with us when tickets are purchased.

On a related note, We're actually going to buy a PH Plus ticket with two additional days than we need, to save for an upcoming vacation after this December's. Do I need to worry about her turning 10 and not being able to use these tickets? I'm just thinking out loud about this.

hi there :) i'm sure others will be able to give a clearer view...but is there anyway you could photocopy and the relevant information from the passport or birth certificate to prove her age? I know I've had my parents do that before to prove my age and usually it is accepted

As for the PH plus ticket, to my knowledge you needn't worry :) I'm sure I've heard people say Disney will upgrade the ticket to an adults as they can't fine a child for growing older lol. Have a gr8 trip! :bounce:

We have never had to show ID. I have a GD who looks 7 now and she is 4, when she was 2 she looked 4 when we approached the turnstyle the lady did ask for her ticket but I just told them she was 2 and they let us in, no problem. It was funny because we had another GD with us who was 3 at the time and they would have let her through without a pass, if we didn't offer it to them(she is very tiny)

I don't know about the ability to upgrade the park hopper to an adult when she is 10.

I have had to travel with DDs birth certificates when flying numerous times because they looked older thatn they were. Especially when I did not buy a ticket for the one under 2. If they are close to a milestone birthday (2 for flying without a ticket, 3 for WDW, etc) for wherever we are going, I always make sure I take copies of the birth certificate, just in case.

We went this past winter right before DS's 10th bday. He is tall. The one and only time I was questioned was when I bought the tickets at the window. That was the only time. Even then she didn't ask for proof. When I said 2adults/1child. She said where is the child-- I pointed (him and dh were waiting on a bench). Then she very nicely asked how old he was, I told her 9-- all was done. I never got questioned at any of the gates or any place else after that.

We are going in October and I am bringing my two DS's birth certificates just in case. I have a 4 year old who we bought a ticket for and a 2 year old who doesnt need a ticket, but the 2 year old looks as old as his brother. People sometimes ask if they are twins. I'm bringing the birth certificates just in case. They probably wont ask but just in case they do I will have them.

You'll be fine. We bought hopper tickets back a while ago and my sister was a "child" when we bought them, and the next time we went back she wasnt a "child". They dont really care, as long as they get your money. ;)

My oldest ds was and still is a big guy. He hit 6 foot by 15. We took him very close to his Sept birthday the year he turned 10. No one asked us for anything and he definately looked even older than 10. With the ph maybe your next trip you cna upgrade to the adult ph and get some credit of the child ph you have.

I have the same dilemma. I'm worried about meals. My DD is 10 and will still be 10 when we go and she is 5'1" which makes her look older. I'm afraid they will not give her the childrens prices at the buffets. I guess I just need to bring a copy of her birth certificate. I have an 11 year old son who looks younger....go figure.

I have the same problem with my daughter. She is 10 and is almost 5'2". She wears a size 9-10 shoe! I always feel like people think I am lying about her age-trying to save a buck. One think I always do is if the person says how old is she-I try to make sure she answers. Last time we went to DW I carried a copy of her birth certificate-just in case-but everyone there was extremely nice and no one ever questioned her age.

Our DS was 9 last year when we went and a little tall for his age. We photo-copied this bith certificate and carried it in the fanny pack. We had tickets before we arrived and no one ever questioned at the gate how old he was. He was asked at every buffet how old he was but I got the feeling they asked all children that question. They never questioned him when he said 9. I did have a waitress make a smart comment to the fact that she did not belive my DS was under 11 once at a non disney resturant. We always felt better to have something just in case. Check your child's insurance card as the BD is often on there and that is something you would carry anyway. This year he is 11 so will have an adult ticket but we will have the Birth certificate in case of question at the buffets

If you buy a childs hopper pass now and return when he is older, Disney will let you convert it to an adult as long as it has had some days used on it previously.

HTH

I woudl never think to atek their birth certificates! :o :o :o
I'd be very offened if they wouldn't let su in cause they thought I was lying about my child's age. What woudl you do? I guess just cruise over to Universal or Sea world?!? ;)
