My e-ring was originally white gold but we switched it over to platinum for this reason. White gold is yellow gold dipped in nickel/zinc and a rhodium finish. It needs to be re-rhodiumed 1-2x per year to maintain its color. DF got the extended warranty on my ring so it would be free, but after three years it would cost $90-180/year to keep it from looking yellow. I had my ring a little over a month when I reset it and the yellow was already visible in the crook of the mount.
Yeah, DH's wedding band is yellowing a bit (2 years later) and I'd love him to get it re-dipped but he refuses to take it off, which is totally romantic but I don't want him to end up with a yellow gold band
