Show off your door!!

Posting pictures of my door soon, but here is my 2cents

- Decorating your door.... you will be sad if you dont
DD3 loved seeing the door all decorated. She was so suprised when she saw all the decorations. I would sneak out and put them on the door. She was so confused as to how what she saw on my computer at home had made it on to our door. (I tired to hide them from her)

On the 1st day on our way out the door the stateroom host was right outside the door, so she asked him if he put them on the door, he smiled and told her "no" Mickey Mouse just came by and put them up...she was tickled.
pink about Mickey decorating her door. (I gave the stateroom host a extra tip, for that sprinkling of pixie dust)

- As many times as I got turned around on that ship headed to my room, the decorations on my door and others really help me (if i was going the right or wrong way)

- To see others walk past your room and awe at your door is so heart warming)

- I had a few passer-by's to even take pictures of my door

- Once you see everyone else door, you will feel left out if ya dont.

- If you do an FE exchange, it will help others find your door.

Tips,

I first printed my graphics at home....WAY TO MUCH INK
Sent them to staples to have them printed it was like 1.00 a page, on nice paper. Some I laminated some not but they all looked great

I printed way to many to fit on my door, so consider printing various sizes.

HAVE FUN, WITH IT AND DONT LET IT STRESS YOU

PICTURES SOON TO COME

Just a heads up....
I don't have a printer so decided to upload the designs from the magnet thread to Walmart to then laminate and put magnet strips on.
Went to Walmart this morning to pick up and they told me I had to have a release. I explained to her I could be printing them on my computer all day long and she slid them to me but I'll be hesitant to do any more this way in case the next person isn't as lenient.

I have found Wal-Mart to be so strict on these things. I was told that since i was using a Disney image I would need a release from them.

Also off topic if you are copying a picture at Wal-Mart you do need a release. I tried to have a picutre of my grandfather copied, it was taken in 1942, and it was not stamped by any photographer and Walmart would not release the copies to me. I asked why they said i need a release and I told them the photographer was dead since the photos were taken in 1942 and they are not stamped by any photographer. End of a long story, go to Costco or Sam's Club.

Another option... Upload them to Target. I have never had them question it

Well here is our fish extender..This is our first cruise and my first time sewing! That's right, I have never sewn a thing! I know its not as good as people who buy them or have a crafty thumb...but it works for us!

This was our first cruise and we didn't make any magnets but received some very nice ones from the FE exchange from talented fellow DISers :goodvibes

I got my beautiful FE at ETSY.com from a the seller StitchesNBows :lovestruc

I gotta ask you about the Red Sox magnets because OH is a big fan an I would love to surprise him with something similar. You said they were a gift; do you know who made them?

Here are our magnets from the Oct 16 -23, Magic cruise. First I want to thank jtanddolly (bon voyage Mickey), idrivealumina(Goofy hat), milliepie (Cozumel)

I would try to change out a few every day.

I have bought magnetic paper from here:
http://www.amazon.com/Avery®-Magnet...HN5Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1286803511&sr=8-1
and here when I need to buy in bulk:
http://www.decalpaper.com/category-s/5.htm

I never had any problems with smearing. Both print beautifully though I'd give a slight nod to the Avery brand. The ones I buy in bulk are slightly curled on the edge and sometimes need help getting sucked up into the printer's grasp. Before I realized this, I had a few that kept printing over the same spot but couldn't feed the paper through. Once I figured it out and gave it a little push, they printed great. Not enough of a curl to be a problem hanging on the door at all. I mean really slight curl but enough to confuse my printer.

As far as print quality, I couldn't tell difference once completed. Sometimes I just have to buy in bulk when we have a big group, like our upcoming cruise with 6 staterooms.
Once you get started, it's really so addicting. :lovestruc

I do them myself. It's easy and convenient. Just right-click the image you want, to save it to your computer. Then find the file under "Pictures" once you open it, just click your print button. I always do a trial printout with plain paper and my printer options on 'Fast Draft' so as not to waste a lot of ink. Once I see the layout and size is good, I switch printer back to normal and put in 1 sheet of magnetic paper. I have Adobe Photoshop which makes it really easy to change size or print mulitples of same image on one sheet, similar to when you buy a sheet of wallet photos. Also handy when decorating many doors. PS really isn't necessary but makes anything with photos easy to do, with a preview of what it will look like printed.

Another option which some like to do is print on regular paper then laminate it and glue magnets on the back. I've never done this so I can't help you there.

Do you set your printer to 8x10 for the Mickey Ears to print out the correct size? I downloaded some from the file share and they were a little cropped off if I select Letter as the paper size. It doesn't much matter for the other graphics but I read on another post where someone didn't size their Mickey Ears properly and they didn't fit around the door number.

Many thanks for all your tips! I haven't cruised in years and it will be my daughter's first and I want to go all out!

WOW.....so many awesome doors.

I am getting so many ideas for our FIRST cruise....yay.

We are going next year on the Dream during May.

I do have one question...

What are the FE for? I see them hanging on the doors but no idea what's the use for them.

Thanks

Barbie

The FE's are for doing an exchange with other members on your cruise, sort of like a secret santa type thing. You sign up on your cruise meet thread, then you get a list of rooms/guests that are participating. Each cruise decides how they want to exchange gifts. It's fun! Don't remember looking to see if you have kids or not, but they are super excited each time they return to the room to see if there are surprises left for them.

Your door was really awesome! We were on that same cruise, our door was almost directly opposite from yours and I had a look almost every day to see which new magnets you had put up! :cheer2:

I made the Body parts from magnetic foam sheets. I used a printed Mickey as a template, just expanded the various parts to a size that suited the door sign. Black marker to outline them and white foam for the buttons.

Works really well we think.

Here's our door from the 9/8/10 Med cruise

I didn't make the big pink and yellow magnets. They were replacements made by GS on the ship after one of our magnets went missing.

:sad1: I just checked out of this stateroom today.
No door pics yet. I'm Goofy-tired and still doing laundry.

We were in that room for 24 days (B2B Med/WBTA) I totally did not want to leave (even after that long).

:cutie:

Edit: BTW did they fix the porthole window? When we were in there the window was full of bubbles.
