Show Me Your Smolder! October 2012 B-Day TR NEW 4/1 Trip Wrap Up & NEW PTR LINK!

We had to cancel our Sci Fi ADR in Dec since Hunter got into JTA during our ADR time and DH didnt know he could request a different time...oh well. We will get there eventually.

I have yet to see FOTLK :scared1: We tried on one of our AK days and got there about 30 min early and we didnt get into the show. We didnt want to stay in line and wait for the next one, so we just went on with our afternoon. Really want to see it though. Maybe we can run over to AK in Oct and try.

Cute AK t-shirts!

I'm glad you got to see the parade. I love that one so much! FOTLK is awesome too. :thumbsup2

Ugh, the rain doesn't sound fun at all! A couple years ago when my sister and I were there we experienced some rain like that at DHS where it just started coming down. And that rain ended up lasting all day (and there was another day that trip where it rained pretty much nonstop too :().

We were so excited to see the parade for the first time, and Paxton loved it! And luckily he mostly shared our love for FotLK too because that is DH's and my favorite Disney show.

I really hate being in the rain at Disney, especially when it lasts all day!! We didn't get a lot of rain on this trip, but we have had other trips where it seemed like it was raining the whole time. It's still fun because hey you're in DISNEY WORLD! But it can make touring a little more difficult.

Score on the walk-in ADR! That's awesome. Cute picture of the three of you in the car.

And afternoon break sounds perfect. I love going into AK in the afternoon to watch that parade. I absolutely love it, but when I start the morning there I rarely stay long enough.

Boo to the rain, but it looks like you guys dried off just fine for your final photopass pictures. Great choice for your Christmas card!

Thanks! We usually have had good luck with Sci Fi, especially because we are early lunchers anyway. Our server took the photo of us, I just wish I hadn't been leaning over so far! I always tend to feel like I have to lean in really close to be in the picture. :rotfl:

That's usually what we do with AK, spend a couple of long mornings there and leave early afternoon for a break then park hop. So we have never really been there at the time the parade was happening! It's so fun that you can go to Disney World so many times and still find new things to do every trip.

Luckily the down pour didn't last too long. It had definitely been raining at AK before we arrived because there were puddles everywhere, but we were hoping it had passed over. It was quite disappointing when those theater doors opened and it was nothing but a wall of water!!! It dried up by the time we were done eating, and perfect timing for those photos!

Actually, We're big fans of the holiday overlay of that parade, even moreso than the regular version. The same issue though - now I got "Jingle Jangle Jungle full of holiday fun" stuck in my head. Dang it!

And yeah, I picture Paxton really enjoying the Nemo show for about 10-15 minutes, then just wanting to be outta there.

Now I know whenever we do go back for a Christmas trip, we definitely have to get over to AK in the afternoon to see the parade with the overlay! It was such a fun parade, I think Paxton probably even enjoyed it more than the MK parade!

You're probably right on Nemo. Maybe we will just stick with The Seas and maybe Turtle Talk. We have never done that before!

I like the idea of going back to AK in the afternoon to see the parade. Like most everyone else, I usually hit up the park in the morning and leave after lunch, meaning I've never actually seen the JJJ parade before. :confused3 Based on your photos, though, it looks really good. Lots of CM and character interaction...

FotLK is great, but it had to stink to walk outside afterwards and see that it was pouring rain. Kind of puts a lot of the usual AK activities on hold.

Yep, that's us! We love AK, but instead of a full day there we usually plan 2 long mornings so we are gone before parade time. It was definitely full of interaction, and the best part was since most people have that same AK plan, there isn't a ton of people still in the park so we could walk right up to the parade route and get a good spot!

It does, especially because so much of AK is outside! It's harder to find indoor attractions around there to escape the rain.

Hopefully next time. It's really fun to eat there!

Yeah, I wouldn't have wanted to wait for the next show after waiting 30 minutes for one and not getting in! Hopefully next time you go you'll have better luck getting into the show, it's definitely amazing!

Just a couple of quick updates because we are heading to New Orleans for parades this weekend! Since I'm working Mardi Gras day and it is just killing DH that we can't go to the parades that day, we compromised. I don't work again until Monday so we are going to drive in either tonight or early tomorrow to spend the whole day Saturday and most of the day Sunday at parades and come back later Sunday afternoon. I knew if I didn't update today it would be awhile before I could make a post again!

Day 6 Continued: Thursday October 25th

When I left off, my parents had offered to watch DS so DH and I could go out that evening on our own. We scooted out of there so fast I think we left a cloud of smoke coming from our feet behind us as we left! We talked about going to a park, but there was a party going on that night at MK, DHS had closed at 6 pm, and of course AK wasn't open, so our only park option was Epcot, and quite honestly, this is not our favorite park (I know some of you are gasping in horror right now as you read that sentence!).

So we decided instead to head to Downtown Disney for the evening. We had stopped there on our arrival day, but we were so tired that we really didn't have time to shop or do anything besides eat. We always like to walk through World of Disney at least once a trip, and now was probably our only opportunity because the next few days were busy ones! It was about 7:20 or so when we got out of the car and started walking through DTD.

We walked through the Lego store to see if there was anything worth getting DS for Christmas, but the kids sets weren't anything we thought we needed for him, so we didn't buy anything. I did enjoy the Lego statues though!

2439_zps34d9a8c2.jpg

2440_zps75bc1dcd.jpg

It was pretty crazy in that store, so once we realized we weren't going to be purchasing anything, we headed out.

2442_zps4e5194d2.jpg

Cute display on World of Disney store next to the Lego Store side! I saw it when I was going to the restroom and made DH take a picture lol

We stopped in Art of Disney and of course spent a long time browsing and wishing we had tons of money to spend on some of the beautiful art in there!

2443_zps371b35a6.jpg

2444_zpsf19fb475.jpg

Love watching them draw the characters!

Eventually we wandered down to where it connects with what used to be the scrabook store and purchased a book for DS of Disney stories and a 2013 calendar.

4168_zps7f252ba1.jpg

This book started quite the collection at our house, since Santa brought him 7 more of these collection books to add to his shelf!

4169_zps814c23a8.jpg

We also walked through the Christmas store and I was really hoping to find an ornament that jumped out at me as one we HAD to have, but nothing did. So I settled on getting the Happy Holidays yard flag instead. We were hoping to find the Halloween on our trip since it was sold out online, but they didn't have it in any of the parks either! I guess that is what happens when you go so close to a holiday. As they start selling out they stop making them. We will just have to try to jump on one this year!

4167_zpsd9f30b86.jpg

Our next stop after all that shopping was Ghirardelli! It was a little busy but we had time to look over the menu while waiting in line to make our order.

2450_zps1b97d214.jpg

I had gotten the cookie bottom sundae last time and it was really good, but since we were splitting something this time, we settled on the Warm Brownie Sundae - A scoop of premium vanilla ice cream paired with warm Ghirardelli double chocolate brownie smothered with hot fudge and topped with whipped cream, chopped almonds and a cherry. We got it without the almonds (because DH is lame!) and no cherry, but it was freaking fantastically delicious!

2451_zps864ac8ac.jpg

We sat at a table outside to enjoy our sundae and watch everyone hustling and bustling through DTD. It was definitely getting more and more crowded as the night went on. Apparently with 3 of the parks closing early that night, a lot of people had the same idea as us!

After enjoying every last delicious bite of our brownie sundae, we headed into World of Disney! We didn't come out with quite as big of a haul as we had expected, but we spent a lot of time looking. We ended up getting a shirt for me, one for DH (but we ended up bringing it back because they only had it available in small or extra large, so he got the small but didn't like that it was so tight...too bad because it was an awesome shirt!), our magnet since we like to get one from all our vacations, and a postcard to add to DS's collection.

The magnet and postcard. We got that magnet because we had the same 2012 one from Disneyland but with the different icons and I wanted something to remember the year we went to both US Disney parks!

We started walking back towards where we had parked after making our purchases at World of Disney, and I had to stop for one more Fall display!

2455_zps93da2821.jpg

Our last stop of the night was D-Street, DH's all time favorite store, I'm sure!

2458_zpsc3d47585.jpg

2459_zpsaa411d19.jpg

He bought 3 Vinylmations there, but I'd be lying if I said I knew which ones he had gotten. I'll have to get better at taking pictures of them as he gets them on trips because he certainly never remembers to!

We headed back to Bonnet Creek for the night and arrived around 9:30 pm. We had to sneak in very quietly because DS was asleep in the pack & play in the living room, but he was so crashed out I think we could have come in with a marching band behind us and not woken him up!

Continued in next post...

Day 6 (Kinda) Continued: Thursday October 25th

Okay, so this isn't really a continuation of the day, it's the pictures my parents took while on their day trip to Islands of Adventure! My mom has recently (like within the last year) become obsessed with the Harry Potter movies, so she is all about WWoHP too. They went last year on their trip in May, and she wanted to go again this year. We almost thought about going with them, but decided ultimately DS was still just too little for almost everything there. So as badly as we wanted to go to see WW, we decided to stick with Disney that day. We will be going this year though, and I'm so excited!

So since I wasn't with them, I won't pretend to know what the heck they were doing all day. But I did want to share their pictures because I know some people love seeing pics of WWoHP, myself included!

Apparently, they went on Forbidden Journey...

I have no photographic proof that they did anything else that day, but I sure hope they did! :rotfl:

And that evening while we were off eating brownie sundaes and spending money, they got to spend some quality time with this little cutie!
(Wow, he looks SO TIRED in this picture! LOL)

2461_zps76fcfeb1.jpg

UP NEXT: 'Ohana!

That's great you and your DH got a chance to have some shopping and eating time at DTD! We have yet to have gone to Universal Studios with our kids. Waiting for them to get a little older so that they can actually go on more than a handful of rides than what they have Seuss. We'll probably give it a shot in a couple of years.

That last picture of your son is so cute in his Thomas pajamas. :thumbsup2

Have a great weekend! I'm sure you'll all have a great time. And I hope to see some parade pictures... :thumbsup2

Epcot, and quite honestly, this is not our favorite park (I know some of you are gasping in horror right now as you read that sentence!)
Where does EPCOT rank when Hanson is there? :confused3

Warm Brownie Sundae - A scoop of premium vanilla ice cream paired with warm Ghirardelli double chocolate brownie smothered with hot fudge and topped with whipped cream, chopped almonds and a cherry.
Ok, I have no idea why, but I haven't been there. I'm not a big DTD fan, so I always just want to see whatever stores we need to go to and move on. I really need to seek this this out!!!!!

We got it without the almonds (because DH is lame!)
I'd get it without them too... :confused3

and no cherry
But that is just an-American... :rotfl2::rotfl:

but it was freaking fantastically delicious!
I've never known the combination of brownie and ice cream not to be.

It looks like a nice evening away for the 2 of you to enjoy some relaxation and do some shopping. And that sundae was a very nice touch.

We will be going this year though, and I'm so excited!
I'm sure you'll love it... :thumbsup2

See, every time I get on here to catch up from my phone I can't see your pics larger :( I really need to get on here on a comp. I'm dying to catch up

I'm not gonna lie, when you said Epcot wasn't your favorite park, I did gasp in horror! I LOVE that place, I could live there! But that's what's so great about Disney, there's something for everyone!

Looks like you guys had a great date night at DTD! I love Ghiradelli's but it's always so busy, so we've only been there once so far, I'd like to go again! And the Christmas store at DTD is my favorite shop in all of Disney World, I love it! :yay:

I've never read the Harry Potter books, so I know nothing about it, but I do think the WWoHP looks really cool! Loved the pictures!

I love how DTD is decorated for Halloween. That's so neat.

Cute T's.

Great pictures from IOA. I really need to get over there one of these days. Glad your parents had a fun trip to the Dark Side.

Paxton does look a little sleepy, that's for sure! Poor baby!

I am all caught up! :goodvibes

I have to say that I love all the character interactions with Paxton. He always looks like he is having the time of his life and the pictures are so precious!

Awesome that you were able to get some couple time, I think having ice cream at Ghiredelli (or however you spell it) sounds like the perfect ending to a DTD date. That brownie sundae is my favorite also!

I also liked the UO pictures, we might venture over to the dark side sometime this year!

Perusing DTD at night sounds like a great way to spend some time away from DS. I probably would've done the same with 3 parks being closed.

That sundae is really good; completely worth the wait in line and the search for a table. :goodvibes

For some reason your parent's US photos aren't showing up on my computer (:confused3) but I'm sure your parents had a blast and enjoyed WWoHP.

You had a night out with out the kids and you went...shopping???

Next time: One word - three syllables: Jellyrolls!

How nice to be able to get some time with just your hubby :goodvibes

DTD Fall decor looks super cute.

WWOHP -- looks amazing! All those little details!!

Hope you all had a fun filled weekend!

Looks like you two had a great time at DTD. It seems every time we go there at night it is super crowded. Looks like you also found a lot of great things. I think Zavier got the same book for Christmas. Sounds like you all enjoyed your icecream. I am super weird and do not really enjoy chocolate. I would rather have icecream with only almonds. haha.

I'm always impressed with wwohp. I'm not really all that into the movies but the design alone makes me want to visit someday.

:thumbsup2

It was nice to be able to take our time in World of Disney and not have to try pushing a stroller around all of those displays and people. We love Disney shopping and it's not quite as enjoyable now when you have to make sure your toddler is not climbing out of the stroller or pulling things off of shelves! :rotfl:

We have skipped Universal the last two trips for exactly that reason! But since we are not going to WDW next year at all and don't know exactly when we will be back, I feel like I just have to go to see WWoHP! I'm hoping he will be tall enough for at least Spiderman while we are there, even though obviously he can't ride the coasters.

Thanks! I love that style of pj's on him!

Have a great weekend! I'm sure you'll all have a great time. And I hope to see some parade pictures... :thumbsup2

Hoping to post some in just a few minutes!

Where does EPCOT rank when Hanson is there? :confused3

MUCH higher than usual, but they weren't there that night! :lmao:

Ok, I have no idea why, but I haven't been there. I'm not a big DTD fan, so I always just want to see whatever stores we need to go to and move on. I really need to seek this this out!!!!!

I didn't discover the amazingness of Ghirardelli until our last trip, but seriously, it's worth a trip to DTD on its own!

I'd get it without them too... :confused3

He only likes peanuts! And I love pecans and almonds, so it drives me nuts!

But that is just an-American... :rotfl2::rotfl:

Well just call me Benedictina Arnold then because :crazy2:

I've never known the combination of brownie and ice cream not to be.

It looks like a nice evening away for the 2 of you to enjoy some relaxation and do some shopping. And that sundae was a very nice touch.

It was really great! We would have had a great time at a park, but since that wasn't really a great option for us that night, this was a pretty good replacement. :thumbsup2

I'm sure you'll love it... :thumbsup2

I can't wait! I'm a huge HP nerd.

See, every time I get on here to catch up from my phone I can't see your pics larger :( I really need to get on here on a comp. I'm dying to catch up

Yes, you have a lot of catching up to do, too! ;)

I'm not gonna lie, when you said Epcot wasn't your favorite park, I did gasp in horror! I LOVE that place, I could live there! But that's what's so great about Disney, there's something for everyone!

Not even kidding, you are exactly the person I was thinking of when I typed out the phrase "gasping in horror"! :lmao:

Ghirardelli usually is pretty crowded, but if you are getting a table, it's nice that they bring the ice cream out to you instead of people crowding around a counter waiting to pick it up. So once you get through the congestion of the lines to order, it's not bad at all. Definitely worth any wait you might encounter anyway! I love the Christmas store too. :goodvibes Even if I'm not buying anything, I just love walking around in there and imagining a really awesome Christmas tree with only ornaments from that store on it!

I love how DTD is decorated for Halloween. That's so neat.

Cute T's.

Great pictures from IOA. I really need to get over there one of these days. Glad your parents had a fun trip to the Dark Side.

Paxton does look a little sleepy, that's for sure! Poor baby!

I didn't expect DTD to be decorated for Halloween, so that was a nice surprise. Gotta love those huge Mickey pumpkins!

My mom did manage to get some great pictures. It just makes me so ready to get there this upcoming trip!

He was pretty worn out by the end of the week, that's for sure.

I am all caught up! :goodvibes

I have to say that I love all the character interactions with Paxton. He always looks like he is having the time of his life and the pictures are so precious!

I also liked the UO pictures, we might venture over to the dark side sometime this year!

Thanks! I love meeting characters with him! He really is just in awe of them all and loves giving hugs. I'm making him a huge autograph photo book this trip with tons of characters in it, and just praying that we don't have as many book meltdowns like we did this time.

Mmm, that brownie sundae was so delicious, I could really go for one right about now even though it is pretty cold out today! It was the best way to cap off a night wandering DTD together.

It was a nice way to spend the evening since we now usually find ourselves rushing through stores so Paxton doesn't destroy any displays or have a meltdown from boredom!

That sundae was heaven! I'm excited to go back and try a new one when we go again in October.

I don't know why the pics are not working for you? I can still see them fine. Weird!

You had a night out with out the kids and you went...shopping???

Next time: One word - three syllables: Jellyrolls!

:lmao: What can I say, we love shopping in Disney World! I'm almost positive I did throw out Jellyrolls as an option but DH turned it down. Maybe next time. ;)

How nice to be able to get some time with just your hubby :goodvibes

DTD Fall decor looks super cute.

WWOHP -- looks amazing! All those little details!!

It was great! We never get to walk around WDW holding hands nowadays since one of us is pushing a stroller, so that alone was nice. :goodvibes

After seeing WWoHP in so many pictures, I can't WAIT to see it in person!

Hope you all had a fun filled weekend!

Looks like you two had a great time at DTD. It seems every time we go there at night it is super crowded. Looks like you also found a lot of great things. We did have a really fun weekend, I'm about to share some pictures!

It was pretty crowded, but it's not as hard to navigate when it is just the two of us with no stroller to push. :rotfl:

I love chocolate myself, but ice cream and almonds sounds delicious too!! :thumbsup2

I'm a huge HP nerd, but it seems like a really awesome place to visit and explore even for people who aren't. Universal did a really great job with it! And I can't wait now for the expansion!

Down in New Orleans

I have been missing from the DIS for a few days because we spent last weekend in New Orleans at some Mardi Gras parades and then I worked Monday & Fat Tuesday. I'll probably post a trip update later this week, but in the meantime, I thought I would share a little recap of our very fun and exciting weekend!

Friday night started off exciting all right, but for all the wrong reasons. We left the house at 6:45 pm taking our usual route to I-10 to drive to my parents house for the night, not remembering that it was also the parade route that night! It didn't take us long to figure it out, turn around, and go another way. But then halfway to my mom's we came to a dead stop in Baton Rouge because the interstate was completely shut down. We sat there for an hour! Paxton was already awake way past his bedtime, so at 9:30 pm when we finally started moving he looked at me and said, "I'm sleepy." So of course he fell asleep for 45 minutes as we finished driving to my parents house and was awake when we got there at 10:15 pm and wouldn't go to sleep in the pack & play. So for the first time in his 2 years of life he slept in the bed with us. Suffice to say, I have NO IDEA how people sleep with toddlers because it was the worst night of sleep ever! I got smacked in the face by a Paxton hand more times than I care to remember. lol

But after that terrible night, the rest of the weekend was much better. We were up at 7:10 am Saturday because of the sunlight coming in the windows that woke Paxton up, so we started getting ready. We had some breakfast and got dressed to be out the door a little after 9 am. We were driving into the city to meet up with my Uncle David and his family.

A few days before, I had been talking with him about something else and he asked if we were coming in for parades. Turns out, a huge group of people from where he lives rent out the parking lot next to the Hotel Intercontinental on St. Charles Ave, right on the parade route. For $50 ($25 each for me and DH), we were fed all day, got use of the grandstands set up there, and got a wristband for access to the hotel to use the restroom (totally worth the money alone for bathroom access!!). We parked our car a street over from the parade route for only another $20 for the whole day (other places were charging $40!) and knew we were at Mardi Gras for real when we saw this sign on the way out.

FDECB5D4-7E26-4834-A340-51A1E3820DD1-15231-000003ECEF83B159_zps1d90dbe6.jpg

After meeting up with my uncle and his oldest daughter Skylar (his 2 little ones were still asleep upstairs) at his hotel, we walked over to the parking lot to check it out and get a spot. Certain people in their group were designated to go out early in the morning each day and set up everyone's ladders, so those were already lined up in front of the grandstand. We claimed our spot on the first level of the grandstand behind their ladder so that our kids could be around each other during the parade and Paxton could maybe sit in their ladder with his kids since we don't have one (our project for this year though is to have one constructed for him by Mardi Gras season next year!). If you have no clue what I mean about these ladders, you'll see in the pictures.

We had some time to kill before the first parade, and they were already cooking up burgers for lunch when we got there at 10:30 am so we got one to share a little closer to 11. We hoped Paxton would eat some, but he was only interested in eating every kind of chip they had by the handful or running around on the grandstands with Skylar. Luckily, they broke out a loaf of bread and some peanut butter & jelly later on in the day so he did end up eating most of a pb&j sandwich at some point in addition to all of his snacking!

Eventually Jessica came down with the two little kids from their hotel room and my parents and sister joined us too to wait for the parade to start.

A cute picture DH took of me and my cousin/godchild Stryder!

A great photo my dad got of Paxton and DH

Finally, it was time for the first parade of the day, the Krewe of Iris! It's an all female krewe, and their floats are really fantastic! David & Jessica's two kids and one of their friends were sitting in their ladder, but Jessica's cousin's ladder was right next to that one and they had not arrived yet, so she told us we were more than welcome to let Paxton sit in it for the parade. He loved it! It gave us some ideas for the one we will be building for him, because they had installed cup holders in it too! lol

Love this one! He was so excited!

Uncle David's girls ready for Iris!

The parade started rolling, and I don't think Paxton even noticed that they were throwing beads, he was just so excited to see the floats! He clapped and cheered for them more than anything else.

See? Oh, and check out the basketball hoop with the photo of Roger Goodell on it...that led to the people around us being BOMBED with huge bags of beads as people on the floats tried to hit it!

Paxton loved the parade, but by the time it ended, it was waaaaay past his nap time. My sister also had to be to work for 5, so around 3 my parents and sister left taking Paxton with them. We had been hoping to see both daytime parades before they had to go, but with the timing it just didn't work out. They said Paxton crashed out in the car immediately!

The next parade we caught was the Krewe of Tucks. It's a group that started out as Loyola students trying to start their own krewe and has grown since then into a full fledged krewe with a really goofy theme. A lot of it is sexual innuendos, but it is all very funny and goes over the little ones' heads (I hope!). They are most known for throwing rolls of toilet paper! It was my first time seeing this parade, and it was a lot of fun but we didn't really take pictures.

Once that one was over, we had a pretty long wait for the nighttime parade, Endymion. They served dinner (jambalaya) and we continued to snack on popcorn and king cake while we held our spot.

DH and I waiting for the parade! You can barely see my Carnival Time shirt (it's a clock that looks like a king cake) because it was so chilly I wore a jacket all day!

The crowds really come out in droves for Endymion!

Kelly Clarkson!

You can really see how the entire atmosphere changes at night! During the day it was very family oriented. But while I was sitting there waiting for Endymion, the girls I saw walking around were just wearing less and less until I actually saw one girl completely topless with only a painted on design covering her chest! Not even any pasties! And for about 20 minutes the parade came to a stop and there was a guy on the float encouraging every woman he made eye contact with to lift her shirt, and a couple of them did.

A really funny moment happened here too while the parade was stopped. All day there was a DJ in the grandstands playing music that went along with each float (for example, one was coming with a lion on the front, so he started playing The Lion Sleeps Tonight, etc.). While it was stopped, he just started playing crowd favorites like Don't Stop Believin' and Sweet Caroline to keep us entertained. So then he starts playing a rap song (we later found out it's called All I Do is Win by DJ Khaled) and everyone got so excited and started doing the hand motions that go along with it, and DH and I were just looking at each other and we both said, "I have NEVER heard this song before!" Even the people a LOT older than us seemed to know it! I couldn't stop laughing, especially when DH said, "I guess all we listen to is podcasts and Disney music!"

Anyway, Endymion ended around 9:15 pm and we hurried out to beat the crowds. We managed to get out and didn't encounter too many other people at the parking garage waiting to pay (no one was urinating in the lobby either, BTW lmao!). We seemed to beat the crowds out and I snapped this picture of the Superdome lit up for the Endymion Extravaganza going on in it.

We got back to my mom's after 10 and took some quick showers before tiptoeing into the guest bedroom so we wouldn't wake Paxton up. We definitely couldn't handle another night sleeping with him! He got us up around 7:45 the next morning, and we had some breakfast and were taking our time getting ready. Until they made an announcement on the news that they were pushing the parades up by 30 minutes because there was a lot of rain forecasted for the afternoon! Then suddenly we were rushing around. But we made it in plenty of time and only had to walk about a half mile from where we parked to the beginning of the parade route. So we got to see all the floats lined up and ready to roll.

From that spot, we saw the Krewe of Okeanos and the Krewe of Mid City. Paxton was eating everything in sight! See him eating that snack bag full of Cheerios in the picture? He ate ALL of them, even after eating a muffin for breakfast, then we caught mini bags of Zapp's chips that they were throwing in Mid City and he polished off one of those by himself.

He also got very excited when he caught not one but two swords (or as he calls them, pirate hook swords!).

IMG_3269_zps7f21e7a2.jpg

Then at the very end, he caught this stuffed clock and a dinosaur hat.

After Mid City, we started walking down Magazine St. in search of some food before the last daytime parade, the Krewe of Thoth, started. We found a little pizza by the slice place that was open, so we each got a slice and I got to use their bathroom (yay!). We sat down on the sidewalk to eat and we were having a hard time trying to eat our own pizza and feed Paxton his. So DH took DS to see some of the riders on horses so I could eat my slice and when they came back, could feed Paxton his so DH could eat too.

DH has been collecting doubloons with his dad his entire life, and he still likes to catch them for his dad when we go to parades even though he doesn't have his own collection. You might have noticed the sign I made him on my Cricut from the first parades. But anyway, the point of me saying this is that when he took Paxton to see all of the riders on horses, Paxton wasn't so much interested in the horses, he just kept asking all of the riders for doubloons!! DH was very excited to get so many doubloons so easily because of course they were readily giving them to Paxton.

After eating, we found a spot for Thoth that happened to be in a gravel parking lot, so Paxton spent more time picking up rocks than he did trying to catch anything.

I thought he would be full from all of his snacking and a big piece of pizza, but when my FIL caught a moonpie, he sure ate that too!

He did enjoy getting up on DH's shoulders for some of the floats though.

As we were leaving, we gave all of our beads away to a guy next to us who was collecting them for his daughter who was riding in a parade Mardi Gras day and just took home the stuffed animals and toys we had caught for him. He has about 50 plush and foam footballs from all the parades he has been to in his 2 years of life!

We left the parade route at 3 pm and headed home. Paxton napped for about an hour in the car, which was great, and we got home without incident around dinnertime.

All in all, it was a GREAT weekend! Doing it the way we did Saturday with the food and bathroom access was much more my speed, but DH didn't like being so far away from the barricade because it was harder to catch anything. Plus, it was so much fun hanging out with my awesome family! Sunday was more DH's way of doing parades, but I still had fun. It was a nice way to do Mardi Gras since I was working Tuesday (and the weather was a lot nastier too!)

I know this ended up being kind of longer than I had planned, but I hope you all enjoyed that little taste of Mardi Gras! I'll have a trip update posted soon.

LOVED your Mardi Gras trip report!

I usually try to catch a couple of the parade thought podcasts but didn't get to this year.

We love New Orleans! We hope to maybe visit this summer.

What about... um... nevermind... :rolleyes1 :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

If you have no clue what I mean about these ladders, you'll see in the pictures.
Ok, I've seen them and still have no clue... so you just make a seat for the kids to sit in on the top of a ladder??? Is this something you use so that they can sit behind the sidewalk area and still see over people standing? Is it something that you have to have a reserved lot to have room to set it up, or do people just haul ladders into the city and randomly set them up??? :confused3

Hey, glad you shared! As a midwesterner who knows next to nothing about real Mardi Gras celebrations, it is cool to see some of the floats and find out about the first hand experiences of it.:thumbsup2

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I have not been much of a parade person in the past, but it's a whole different experience taking Paxton now and seeing him have such a great time.

I hope you get to visit again soon, I LOVE visiting the city, especially now that we are a lot further away and we don't get to it as often as we used to.

Oh gosh, I don't even want to think about that!!!

You've got it! Some people have a dedicated ladder with the seat permanently attached, others build the seat to come on and off their regular ladder. It gives the kids a high place to see the parade from without having to be on parents shoulders or held up some other way for the whole thing. I never had one growing up because of where we saw parades from, either my grandpa's old service station or my grandmother's house because she lived on a parade route, so people would park their trucks and the kids would stand in the back. Paxton loved it so much that all day Sunday when he saw a ladder he would point and say, "Paxton sit?" So he definitely needs his own for next Mardi Gras!

No reserved spots, yes you just haul it into the city to set up! :rotfl: A lot of people attach small wheels to the sides so they can hold it by the bottom rung of the ladder and wheel it behind you. I even saw one on tv once where the seat had a PVC pipe attached to the side and it went all the way down to the ground where the other end sat in a bag, so every time the kid caught a bead, he could just funnel it down the pipe into the bag! People get very creative with them! We have already talked about what customizations we are going to do for Paxton's. :goodvibes

Glad you enjoyed it! It was a lot of fun, and Mardi Gras can be very family friendly if you know where to go, so maybe one day you can experience it for yourself!
