Oh my goodness. They SO got me! They SO did! Because now, instead of staying at POFQ, we are staying at AKL for our honeymoon!!! I am a sucker for deluxes + free dining. But now I second-guessing my decision. I've never stayed at AKL and I don't know whether it has the same romantic ambience that POFQ had. I'm worried that:

1) It will be overrun by kids. I LOVE kids, and I don't mind them in moderation or at the parks, but I want some privacy at the resort.

2) There isn't enough romantic things to do. POFQ had the path to POR, the River, the boat to DTD, and the pretty gardens. What does AKL have? I DON'T KNOW!!

3) I keep hearing horror stories about construction, but I've also heard an equal amount of praises for AKL.

4) Is it really a HONEYMOONISH type place????????????????

Who can help? Who can save me? I just want to know I haven't made a mistake.

AKL is the only deluxe resort we could afford (and we can barely afford that).

My experience with AKL is that kids don't "overrun" the place. I did see a lot in the pool, but that will be at almost all the resorts. As for romantic things there, they have plenty of walks that look over the savanna that are nice. The resort itself is beautiful to walk around, and very honeymoonish. Also, eat at Jiko's one night. It is a fabulous restaurant that can be romantic. I wouldn't worry about construction to much. Disney generally does a good job of hiding construction, and keeping quiet. IMO. I think you made a good choice with AKL. GL with your decision.

Holy moley, do I ever love AKL! You're going to have a great honeymoon there, the food is amazing, the ambiance is exotic and exciting, and the rooms are lovely. Be sure to call mousekeeping when you get to your room and tell them you want turndown service for the length of your stay - nice treat!

From what I've see the two resorts are the exact same price. I don't know which you find more romantic, but it's just food for thought. I don't think you can go wrong with either resort really. They are both as romantic as you want to make it. Either way, the main thing you need to tell yourself is your honeymoon and wedding are both going to be incredible and there is no wrong decision; you just need to decide to enjoy it!

WL was my first choice originally, but they don't have standard or woods view rooms available with the free dining plan. So I went with AKL instead, and from what I've seen at least in the lobby, the two are almost identical. Believe me, I love WL!! We stayed there when I was 10 and ever since then, whenever I hear "The Last of the Mohicans" soundtrack, it totally takes me back!!

You will not have to worry about kids at AKL as there are more of them at the other resorts

They have the most beautiful firepit in the world. VERY ROMANTIC AT NIGHT. You can also walk through the pathways of the resort just like POFQ

Don't worry about the construction if they put you there you can always request somewhere else. Let them know how important it is that you have another room! You will not regret the choice. Just walk into the lobby and you will know you made the right choice!4)

Anywhere you pick in Disney has a different theme in my opinion I am not a nature outdoors kinda girl but AKL is SO ROMANTIC I just love it! Besides you can walk hand in hand by the pool. No matter where you are it will be like its just the two of you there.

AKL is much more exotic plus if you want to feel like you have escaped reality AKL and Poly are the best choices. It really depends on your tastes. Just to let you know there is no such thing as a LOWER END Deluxe.
Calm yourself and know that it will be magical! Go to BOMA and JIKO to eat they are fantastic!

I have stayed at all the Deluxe resorts and AKL is one of my favorites. I may be shunned from DIS as a result of the next comment but I do not like Grand AT ALL! AKL is much more exotic plus if you want to feel like you have escaped reality AKL and Poly are the best choices. It really depends on your tastes. Just to let you know there is no such thing as a LOWER END Deluxe.

Whoa, not like GRAND!!!! I have spent the best few days of my life there!!!! Haha, to each her own! But I will admit, that place needs to be updated badly, which I hear they're planning on doing.

And I have eaten at BOMA already!!!! I didn't care much for the food because it was so spicy, but I know my DF will absolutely PASS OUT when he experiences BOMA!!! I got ressies for him.

No charge turndown, but it's nice to come back to your room with your sheets turned down, towels freshened (if you've used any during the day) and a lovely chocolate mint and African proverb card on the pillow.

It's not a huge deal, I just really like the bed turned down...

We are staying at AKL for our short honeymoon after the wedding. It is my fiance's favorite resort on property. They have romantic waterfalls in the resort, 2 firepits, exotic animals, lovely artwork, and really good food. The hot tubs are nice and secluded as well. This is one of my favorite resorts and very romantic, but also fun. You might want to check out the activities they have during the day and at night. They used to have a culinary tour and other tours, very nice.

another thing to remember, is don't try and focus on romantic things to do. we were worn slap out on our honeymoon from all teh stress of our wedding, so just being together for a week with some peace and quiet was romantic. go and have fun at AKL, it is beautiful! dont worry so much with the little details. we ended up not doing half the things we planned to do anywya b/c we were so tired!

AKL is amazing, we were in Disney in Nov. we stayed three nights in AKL and four nights at GF they were both as good as each other for there own reasons, you will not regret your desision as soon as you walk out onto your balcony and see the giraffes etc it is so cool.

My DF and I stayed at the AKL last summer when we went to WDW and we LOVED IT!!!! We cant wait to go back for our honeymoon. AKL and GF are my two favorite resorts in WDW. You will love it and there are plenty of romantic things to do. My DF and I ordered room service in the mornings and watched the sun rise from our savanah view room. Just walking around the resort can be romantic b/c of the atmosphere and I did not find kids running all over the resort either! You will love it!

We looove AKL! i think it is super romantic. i don't think it is the wrong decision. I love POFQ also it is our fav mod but it can't come close to akl imo!


We love to grab a drink at the lounge and sit by the fire, walk the grounds around the savannah, Listen to the stories from africa around the campfire in the evening, the pool is great and the food and smells are amazing,have dessert (zebra domes of course ) and champagne on the balcony at sunset! So many wonderful things to do.

You actually have to ask for them to turndown your bed (and all it entails) at the AKL?? They won't do it automatically?

I just also wanted to add that 2 years ago when I was deciding if I wanted to stay at AKL I had a tough timein some respects bc I was afraid I would miss the water and the paths. On the contrary I loved the fact that even though it may have been a bit of a walk to the room, it was in nice cool AC after a hot day in the parks. Also I loved sitting out on the balconys watching the animals. We did that everyday we were there. Also I love love love the pool and the jacuzzis there. I by far think it is one of the best pool areas at the Disney resorts. One thing I loved was that there were two jacuzzis and one was a bit more "hidden" I guess you would say. It was so relaxing and I would definitely go back. I think is a great option if you want the feel and features of a deluxe but don't have the money to spend on a higher priced one. Some people feel it is further away from some of the parks, but I really did not think it to be that bad. In fact AK has become one of my favorite Disney parks and I tend to go there at least twice if not three times, so being so close to it at this resort is an additional bonus for me.

I also think that this is right on. AKL and POLY are my two favorite resorts. I really got a feeling of relaxation when I was at both of these resorts. And they both are very exotic. While the other deluxes I think are very pretty and elegant, POLY and AKL take the cake on theming and creating a special atmosphere. Both of these resorts have spoiled me and will make it very hard to ever want to stay anywhere else. It was hard enough for me to take a chance on POLY after loving AKL so much, but luckily I loved it just as much. I really don't think you can go wrong with AKL, it is amazing!
