OK, so I decided we're just gonna go ahead and spend the points on a Friday and Saturday night so we don't have to move and pay peak rate for spring break thru CRO. Waiting for a hopeful AP rate a few months before the trip I think might kill me. ;) Now that we've joined DVC I have to plan everything far out!

But why do I feel so guilty for using so many points for those two nights?!? As hubby says - I've just become too cheap! It is like I'm obsessed with trying to get the best deal while at WDW. Pathetic! (Let's just say I check mousesavers every morning, enough said.)

Anyone else have pains when booking those higher point nights? (Can you tell we're not in the 1000 point club?!?)

Well Shan, I'm with you. I hate using up those points for Fri and Sat nights. So, I'm looking at it as an opportunity to try out every single other resort in WDW!!! I'll stay at a resort on AP rates for those two nights. And then move to BWV. We travel light so moving isn't a big issue. And we treat it like a mini-vacation before the big one. So, nope....I don't use points for those nights. Well, I guess that's wrong. I am using them over Thanksgiving. but, that's a one time thing.

Same here - hate using points on the weekend. That being said, we did use weekend points this most recent trip (6/04) BUT we had 7 of us total (us 5 and my parents), so we didn't want to go moving into a hotel room for the weekend. We already moved twice this stay (from BVC to VWL to VB)

We try to make the most of 5 day trips OR downsize for the beginnig of the trip.

UGH! Ya know, I really don't know what I'll do. Hubby just doesn't care. Guess I should have done a poll. ;)

DD really wants to stay at CSR cause the pool looks like Indiana Jones. So I was gonna book the painful peak rack rate and then wait for AP rates...
But, then I read sometimes CSR isn't included with the AP rates.

UGH! Tried to persuade her into POFQ, but the slide is too BABY for her. Decisions, decisions, decsions...

Oh, I need to get another hobby other than scrapbooking (usually Disney trips) and planning WDW trips that are too far out for hubby to even care. :hyper:

I guess I could look at it like we have points, we should spend them instead of paying out for another resort?
But on the other hand, will we be bored with OKW for 7 nights? Kids might like the change at the end.

until our last trip. There wasnt a day in our 8 day stay at BCV that I wanted to move and we were in a 2 bdrm.

Now I will just book longer stays of 8 nights or more to average out the points per night.

I like the settled feeling we had more than the new resort experience. If we ever do move, it will definitely be at the beginning of our trip and not the end.

Good luck with your decision!

We always use points for at least one full weekend during our stays. You do realize that you can spend up to 12 nights, only using 2 weekend nights? It just is NOT worth the hassle of moving in the middle of our trips. We use resort delivery and room charge a LOT, plus taking the time to physically move, chek-in, get settled into the room just isn't worth it. We aren't in the 1000 point club either, but purchased enough points to cover weekends.

I hate paying the weekend points too. So for OKW the past 2 years I've paid cash for Friday (end of trip) or Friday and Saturday (beginning of trip). I paid $301 for an AP rate for Friday night last month, saved 48 points, didn't have to move. I only have 250 points and go twice a year for 6 nights, I really need another 50 points but I don't want to commit to more points. I figure paying cash for 1 night is about the same as initial cost + dues for the extra points.

I guess it is all a mute point now. I talked to DD and she really wants to go to CSR. I explained we'd have to pack up and move, and she said that was fun, she would get to have two different slides in one trip. That stinker. ;)

The worst time I had was when we had a 2 bd room and in the middle of our stay we had to move to a 1 bd room for 1 night. The 1bd room was not a problem but the packing, storing, waiting for a room then unpacking, did not made for a fun time. It really put a damper on the trip those couple of days. We generally arrive on a Friday so not going directly to our DVC Resort would not even be considered. We estimated what we would need as far as points were for a yearly trip with our extended family. Then a couple more for a short trip or so for some get away time. Weekends were included and we would not consider moving just to save a few points.
I know its tempting when 1 friday is worth 2 weekdays but I vote for staying put.

Even though you've made your decision (for today anyway!), I'm in "no move club". I like to get settled and stay settled until time to go home. We moved from VWL to a hotel near Downtown Disney one trip and I just didn't like the feeling, even though the place was nice and we had a fantastic room with a view of "the world" it just wasn't the same. JMHO!

Our two bedroom at HHI in June was 99 points for Saturday night! 99 points.

It killed us, but airfare was close to 200 bucks per person cheaper to fly out Sunday so that took a bit of the sting outta it.

When your on the trip, on Thursday, ask yourself, do you want to leave today? Do you want to pick up and move to a cheaper resort for the last two days? Or stay and enjoy the resort and WDW for two more whole days... no hassles.

:-)

If we lived close to WDW, as you do Shan, then maybe we'd worry more about weekend points. Because we could actually make more trips by avoiding the weekends.

But we only go for one trip a year. And for that, it generally doesn't make sense to move. It disrupts a day of our vacation, no matter how easy Disney makes it for on-site transfers.

If you look at points per week instead of per day, it makes it easier to handle.

Buy hey, whatever works for you is what's most important.

I guess it is all a mute point now. I talked to DD and she really wants to go to CSR. I explained we'd have to pack up and move, and she said that was fun, she would get to have two different slides in one trip. That stinker.
Or I guess I should say, whatever works for your daughter! :p

just so you know, i got an AP rate at CSR last fall so they are included :teeth: (and the slide was really great)

that said, put the non dvc resort first, that's what we did on our 6/4 trip. fri and sat at the poly, then we moved to bwv for sun-thurs. the poly was great, but bwv was even better.

2 adults, one teen and a 2yr old the move was smooth as silk ::yes::

We go on vacation for comfort and for fun. If we want 7 nights at WDW, we're not going to pack, move, check out, check in, unpack, lose days of room-delivery privileges and so forth. That's neither comfortable nor fun.

One of the key selling points for DVC with my wife is the promise of more relaxing trips. No park comando and no moving during our stay. Now if I pay cash for the weekend nights to save points I see that as a trap. If I have leftover points I'll probably plan another trip and then any apparent savings are completly lost in travel costs. So my view is if I have the points for a planned trip, use them - even on the weekends 'cause that's why I bought them.

We usually arrive late Friday nights, sometimes as late as mdnight. I hate paying for a 1 bedroom when arriving at that hour. So we usually saty fri and sat nights in a studio, try another resort and then move to a 1 bedroom for the rest of the week. Hate the moving part, but worth it in the end. And only at the beginning of the trip! I pack on e suitcase for the first couple days, the rest in the other. Not ideal, but it works

I vote for no moving. Once I'm there I don't want to move. We even stay at WDW when we come in very late. I know that for some that's heresy but that's what we bought our points for - to use them. Everyone needs to do what they feel comfortable doing. If it bothers you to use your points for weekends then don't. If you want to use your points for weekends, don't feel guilty. Just enjoy the luxury that we all have with our DVC.

This comes up about every 3 months or so. It is a personal decision. I think if you polled members it would probably split down the middle. My opinion is this: I bought the points to stay at a DVC property, so it does not matter if it's a Friday or a Wednesday or any other night. I will use my points and stay in the DVC properties.I really don't like to pack and repack.
Others will say the exact opposite and say they would rather save the points....that's ok for them. It's really up to you and what you feel comfortable doing.......good luck !!!!

I know how you feel. We are going on the Wonder in May 2005, than staying at VWL on thurs, Fri, and Sat. First time ever using weekend points to stay. But I figure for this one time, it will be fine. But it did kill me when I got the confirmation letter in the mail to see how many points I am using!!!!!!!!!
