Should you head to VelociCoaster or Hagrids first?

Is VelociCoaster open early on early entry days? Just trying to figure out if it is best to first head there or to Hagrids??

Right now Velocicoaster is in soft openings only - meaning there’s no way to know times/days it will be operating in advance until the official opening June 10. Additionally, there is no Early Entry to IOA for the month of May and the first week of June.

It’s anyone’s guess what will be the best plan of attack come June 10 and beyond, and if EPA will return to IOA or continue to be at Studios only.

We will be there the week before it officially opens (just under 3 weeks). With studios as our EE park, I suspect we will go there first, and keep an eye on the app to see if Velocicoaster is running on the day. If it is, then we'll hop hogwarts express as soon as we can and I'll hang out in the HP areas with our youngest while DH and DD (both thrill seekers) try their luck on the new ride. I'm hopeful that we'll continue to see the lines for Hagrids go down so we might actually be able to ride it this trip. (Last time we were there was opening week and none of us were willing to wait 6 hours for it)

If you are going before the official opening day, as of right now, plan around Hagrids first because as long as it isn’t down it will be a guaranteed open ride and the V coaster will not.

My gut feeling is that queues for Velocicoaster will be shorter than for Hagrids. Due to the coaster being more extreme, it will limit the number of people wanting to ride it - my son for example says he won't be doing it, but will be doing Hagrids. But having another headliner attraction should help spread the crowds out better, so in theory should split the rush to rides first thing in a morning.

Velocicoaster queue is outside for a good portion without shade. So if you hate the sun like me then plan to queue there when the sun is least intense.

Hagrid's queue is well shaded by trees and then inside alot so is a pleasant queue anytime of day.

If Uni is smart they will erect some at least temporary tarping over some of the outside queue area for the heat of summer. They have 3 large indoor queuing areas for the ride and weren't using the first one at its full capacity so they probably feel once the opening hype dies down the majority of wait will be in the shade.

VelociCoaster is in technical rehearsals which means it could not open all day, open for a couple hours then close, or open all day. I would keep an eye on the app or the actual ride itself to see if it's running.
