If I have a reservation at my home resort can I modify at seven months with just the purchase of one time use year points? If the new reservation is less than the 24 one time use year points can I purchase all 24 to use the balance on another reservation? Or can I make more than one purchase up until I hit my 24 point limit?

Just call and tell the CM you want to purchase your OTUPs and make a fake reservation somewhere that has 24 points so you can buy them all at once (make sure its more than 30m days from now so you don't get dinged with holding points). Then after you hang up you can cancel it and the points show up like a regular contract you can use when making other reservations.

So when I go to modify my original reservation do I have to call MS to use the OTU points?

That I am not 100% sure about, I know I've swapped out the OTUPs on existing reservation but I cannot remember if any of those were originally a home resort/11 month. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

The OTUP won't come from your home resort, so you can do this only if the nights are available separately as a 7-month reservation. You can't use this to get around the 11-month home resort restrictions by replacing home resort points with non-home resort points.

I wanted to do this so I cancelled and rebooked at 7 months so it became a 7 month booking. There is risk to this though as a waitlist could pick up your cancellation.

You can’t swap in OTUP on any reservation you booked with home resort priority from 11-7 months.

OTUP points can only be used for reservations within the 7 month window; they cannot be used for bookings at 11 months. Even if you're trying to modify the reservation after 7 months, the reservation keeps the 11 month priority rule. The only way around that would be to cancel your 11 month booking and try to make a new booking at 7 months, if the room is still available.
