should you call ahead for special requests?

Hi,
We will be going on our first family disney vacation in exactly a month! I wanted to know..if we wanted things like a refrigerator in the room or a crib, do we call ahead or can we ask and get them when we arrive? Also, are the cribs port a cribs or real ones? My 1 yo DD does not tend to sleep well in port a cribs. If they have real cribs, do we bring the linens etc? Thanks!

Port a cribs. And I belive that type of things should be noted of the ressie when you make it.

When you made your reservations you should have noted your crib and refrigerator needs at that time, but if you didn't, contact your travel agent now to add these things onto your reservation.

Note, not all resorts will accept room preferences like the Beach Club, Broadwalk, Wilderness Lodge to include the Villas, Old Key West.

Otherwise fax your room preferences directly to the resort 4 days prior addressed to the Room Assigner of the resort. A short letter like this example

Greetings from Texas!
Our first magical Disney vacation is finally (almost!) here and I wanted to see if you could possibly accommodate our room requests for Sept. 20-29. We have a courtyard view, need a nonsmoking room, would like to be on the fifth floor, and would love it if we could see the fireworks from the balcony. Our little Mouseketeers are 5 and 7, so they would really like a room with the bunk beds, too! Thank you in advance for any help you can give us in making our first visit wonderful!

I have read trip reports indicating the use or possible transition to portable cribs. Last year he were provided a non-portable crib made of metal. We brought our own linen and don't recall that WDW provided anything.
