Should we upgrade our 3 day PHs to APs?

Visiting DLR in early July, with a three day hopper, will return next April and spend at least two days in the parks, in conjunction with the Star Wars Celebration! Would it be prudent to turn July's PH into an AP?

Or even the premium AP *that's DLR and WDW right? We're visiting WDW this October - 8-9 park days.

If you were to purchase a day PH and a 2 day PH, the total would be $482.00. What pass would you get? If it was the Deluxe or the Premium, it may not be that cost effective to buy the AP. There is a $40 difference between the Deluxe and the ticket prices. Not sure if the discounts you would get would add up to that amount...

Thanks - did you catch that I added our WDW visit this October? Is there still a pass for both DLR and WDW?
We live outside S CA so the one *didn't they get rid of one of the S CA APs?* available isn't available to us :)

The Deluxe pass will be blocked out the Saturday of Celebration VII, so if that is one of your park days, you would need a Premium or Premier pass. Premier is the one that includes WDW, and it's over $1000. Disney always sells a discount ticket to convention attendees in advance. If you already have your Celebration tickets, you should get an offer later for discount park tickets. I have to think that a 3 day DL PH + 2 day DL convention rate PH + 8 days in WDW would not equal $1000.

If you want a pass for both DLR and WDW you're looking at the Premier pass, not the premium. The cost of the Premier pass is $1029, so you'll have to do the math and figure out whether or not it's cheaper to get park hoppers for each of your trips or get the Premier.

Based on your dates, it doesn't seem quite worth it, even with the WDW trip in there. $1K for a pass to all the parks always seemed a little steep. Especially when a 10 day ticket to WDW is under $400. You'd have to do 10 day at WDW and two 5 day trips to DL to make that particular pass worth it.

As for the AP, your days don't seem to add up to the $500+ cost of the pass.

Will you be staying on property? Because AP discounts can also be factored into your savings.

Not at dlr - the discounts there aren't worth it.

Some of the non-DL hotels also offer discounts to Disneyland AP holders. Howard Johnson on Harbor, Candy Cane Inn, Annabella, Desert Inn and Suites, and Hotel Menage are a few that come immediately to mind. It's something you can look for on a hotel's website or call the hotel you are interested in directly to find out what discount they offer and how it works.

I do agree with a previous poster though that the math just doesn't work for you all to have APs. Your tickets for your three trips will come out cheaper than buying a premiere pass. It may be useful to buy an AP for yourself if you are going to get significant discounts with it's use, but you would have to spend a lot of money for those discounts to even bring you to a break even point.

Ticket prices

An 8-day base ticket for WDW is: $ 355.71
8-day park hopper for WDW is: $ 419.61
8-day base + water parks is: $ 398.31
8-day park hopper + water parks is: $ 426.00 (hmm, I thought it was more, I'll go look again)

for DLR, 2-day park hopper is $217
- you should get a convention rate for the Star Wars Celebration

WOW!
