should we tip our contractor

We have a social friend doing a renovation on our basement (yeah...all the kids toys to the basement!!!)...he is charging us only $15/hour for labor and his actual cost for supplies. He is very talented and does this as a side job (also a firefighter). Do you think that we should tip him either monitarily or with a gift of some type at the end of the job??

If you are happy with the work, I'd say go for it! You're getting a great deal on the work. My DH is a contractor, and though he never gets tips (it's a family business), he sometimes gets gifts from happy customers. A certificate for dinner or a nice bottle of wine is always fine by us! Diana
