Should we tip according to what the bill say or what we pay?

I mean, the new DDP is what $35? a day for an adult and $10 for under 9. Shouldn't we only pay for how much the meal cost? I'm just suggesting that the table service meal should maybe cost $20 out of the $35 and we should only pay $2-3/adult because that's what we paid for the meal... if you pay according to the bill, then it'll be $8-10+ depending the size of your party, which $20/$10 is like 50% of what you actually paid....so people actually paid 50% tips instead of the 10-16?% tips they're suppose to pay...

Or, at least, it is customary to pay 15-20% of the bill for good service. And I prefer to round up, especially when tipping on a lower amount. Personally, I feel cheap if I leave less than a $3 tip for good service, so even if it was a relatively cheap meal, I'll leave $3.

exactly. same as if you used a coupon in say, applebees or TGIF. the tip should always be based on the prediscounted amount.

We always tip on the full price, before any discouts. The server doesn't do any less because of the discount/coupon/special, so should get tipped on the full value.

Ohhh yes you should tip on the before discount bill. Right now we have these coupons and 90% of the people are tipping on after the coupons. Its a buy one meal get one free so its a big difference..

yep full price... like the other night we went to eat at Applebees and the bill was only $24.00 for me and dh we had a $12 appitizer too but the waitress took it off the bill b/c the kitchen staff messed up our first one so it was about 15-20 before it came out to the table, she was a great server and did an awsome job we tiped her $15 which is a 62% tip but we tiped on service and tiped as if the appitizer was on the bill. still an awsome tip but she did an awsome job.

Yup, as almost everyone said, its standard to tip on the PRE-discount price.
