Sooo.....
I've got Disney on my brain-
We went in October for 10 days. The weather was awful and it poured for much of our stay. We made the mistake of bringing my Mother with us, but it WAS the longest trip we have been on...Our daughter was around 16 months at the time.

I LOOOVE the Flower and Garden Show and this year it's the whole month of May- also my favorite time to go- I just love the weather then.

We already have AP plus water park passes
We own at DVC, we technically would be borrowing points- our UY is Sept, but I really dont every want to go back in Sept or Oct...

I was hoping to try out AKL- but for DVC they are booked solid.

We could either do OKW or SSR
or a combo of 1 of the above for 2 nights and then 2 nights at BCV or BWIV

BUT we do have bills we are trying to pay down....and this would be money spent that we wouldnt spend otherwise...
and we want to put the house on the market this summer- so plenty to do around the house...

Out of pocket we would pay $300 for airfare
Food
maybe a rental car or sedan - to skip Magical Express.
and I promise to shop WAY less than I usually do!! Maybe $200

We dont have a summer vacay planned this year- so I guess this would be it.

DD will be 2 April 21st and now askes every morning for "Pooh" and "En-sien"
or "Mimmy-Mou"- she is allowed 1 show. ;) So she has the Disney bug....

My husband hasnt turned me down, just asked how many points it would cost and how many we have....so I could potentially rent the others.

I KNOW Im asking a slightly biased group here, but, please, help me be rational.....

Are you sure it will be around $300 for air from CT? I am going next May I paid over $350 for two us before they hiked the price. It depends on how many is going in your party for us it is only two of us & leaving from Washington DC. Just curious. Maybe you all get better deals than we do down here :(

Sorry about that- RT is $600 (give or take, some are a little less, some a little more) for 3 ppl. out of Newburgh NY (about 20min from us) or LaGuardia (about an hour from us)
Airtran has prices around $93, non-stop each way

As much as I love going to WDW and would hesitate to talk anyone out of going....it seems as though you have a lot on your plate right now. If it were me, I skip the trip this May and do the work needed on the house to get it ready to place it on the Market.

.....you only go around once in life. Do what makes you happy and avoid the
stress.:)

I'd say as long as you have an emergency fund in case something unforseen happens - Go for it. You can always make more money and that's part of the fun of having the AP isn't it? It allows you to take an impromptu trip like the one you're describing.

I think in your heart you know what you're going to do;)

With a 2 year old I don't think I would do a split stay for 4 nights. If you really want to go the economical route stay where it will be the least expensive for your lodging and enjoy the parks. Why not ME? That would save the cost of a rental car.

Voice of reason or Mr. Negativity, not sure which I am, but considering the current real estate market it's possible your house might take some time to sell therefore preventing you from taking a Disney trip once it goes up for sale. Maybe you should actually take a trip before you dive into all you are going to do, we're in a similar situation that we have a trip planned for Sept., but due to my starting a new job in April there is a good chance we will have to postpone it indefinitely, so we decided to take a long weekend the end of March.

Hmmmm same situation here and we decided since we got a discount code to go this year. Scale down trip expenses and have fun. Having your house on the market with a 2 year old is hard work. Enjoy yourself before you get into all that. Ours was on the market 10 months:eek: Skip the rental car and resort hopping and you can same some money that way. Work some overtime to make up the difference and go have fun.:thumbsup2

I think that's kind of brilliant reasoning. Also, life is short. Go, have fun. As long as it's what your husband wants as well.

you are only 20mins from stewart? we live just outside of newburgh... are you going through jetblue? they have really good fares...
but i do have to say that maybe you have a lot on your plate right now??? perhaps you just had a bad october trip? i've heard nothing but nice things about october.... just my 2cents

Ah that makes sense now. Plus you are taking Airtran which they have in Washington DC but it stops & we prefer non stop as it is only a 2 hrs flight down to Orlando.

Okay, well my husband came home last night and said "Lets go!"

Much of the house "work" is done- landscape, paved driveway, resurfaced deck, redid 2 bathrooms, new flooring, etc. Maybe some paint and then right before we put it up I'll get a storage space and move any "extra" furniture so it shows well.

Since our "room" is already paid for- we either use the points now, or later.
We already have the APs- so park and water park are paid for...

it leaves, airfare, transportation -I didnt care for ME, I found it too laborious and slow, I do like being able to walk right out to my rental car and go, no waiting. I like keeping my luggage with me too, thats important to me- maybe we would do a sedan if not a rental)
and of course food

DHs reasoning- no summer vacay, may have house on market by then- our neighborhood is in good/high demand, so I would expect in this market 3-6 months to sell, not going anywhere once its on the market and DH says a $1200 isnt gonna make a big difference one way or another- WOW! That was fun to hear!
And I think we will be thinking of trying for another baby this year- so odds are good that next May I'll be pregnant and wont want to fly or do a Disney trip. So if we dont go now, I would guess it would be a few years before we can go in May again.

Im thrilled- and shocked, I though he would be "the voice of reason and doubt" but really his reasoning was in- why wait? Lets do it now, I could use a break from work.

We will probably rent or bank the rest of our points for 2008.

Newburgh, I think its like 30min. I live in Brookfield CT I have driven there to pick up dogs, but not to the airport. JetBlue is actually higher than Airtran our of SWF.
I think we may choose Delta out of LaGuardia though, I can fly for $557 out LGA, which is further....
Not sure yet. The flight times at SWF are more limited, a little too early and a little too late for my preference, but it is closer to home. I have not experienced flying out of that airport yet, we have always done LGA. My parents are 10min from BDL (Hartford) so our last trip we flew in/out there.

October weather- I booked it in Oct because my Mother was coming and thats when she wanted to go. The guide books list weather as "unpredicatable" It was 110 on our Animal Kingdom day, and poured most of the days were we were there, not just an afternoon shower, but all day... with temps in the low 90s to mid 90s always- not my idea of fun. I know everyone has their month that they love to go. Going in Oct once was enough for me. ;) It wreaked such havoc on our plans. and tough to change ADRs due to the Food and Wine Festival that was going on. We did brave the rain to experince the F&W. I have read that it can be wonderful weather some years.

Im definitely a "May" person, temps in low to mid 80s, sometimes rain, but more of a "afternoon shower" that can be skipped while in an attraction or dining. Plus my all time favorite is the Flower and Garden Show at Epcot- I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!
