Should we switch to POFQ from GF for our honeymoon?

Having stayed at both (just back from FQ) I recommend the GF. There is no comparison between the two. Hoping for no flames folks but the FQ reminded me of a themed Holiday Inn. No magic. The cleanliness of the grounds left something to be desired, people had no qualms about dropping their trash whereever, we saw the same dropped tray with a taco and fixins outside a room for two days. The janitorial staff seemed non existant. Front desk Cm's were kinda rude, you practically had to drag information out of them about things that they should have volunteered. The concierge people were nicer, though. Express Checkout was not given on Sunday morning, I stood in line for about 30-45 minutes with about 50 other people. THings that are standard at the GF are not given at the POFQ like lotions and shower caps. THis is a very special time for you. If you can't afford the whole stay there, at least split your stay and do the last part at the GF, especially if itis during a busy time. It's so convenient to just hop the monorail and return to the resort for a rest. Make sure to check out the band playing in the lobby in the evenings, they're great!

Now, I'm a luxury junkie, so keep that in mind...:)

I say go for the GF, especially if that's where you'd like to stay and where your FI would like to stay. The other posters who have mentioned the amenities and things to do are so right -- there's so much right at your fingertips there. Our favorite resorts are GF and BWI and on our last trip we tried to economize at stay at AS Music. We went to GF for dinner at 1900 Park Fare and just kept looking at each other like "THIS is where we should have stayed - what were we thinking?" We've never stayed concierge there and never felt like we were missing any of the magic being in one of the other buildings, for the record. The grounds are so beautiful it was always a pleasure to walk to our room.

Enjoy your honeymoon!

Well said Tara. We just felt disconnected at FQ. The buses are fine but each time we hopped on one at FQ we had to make 4 stops at RIverside before we could go anywhere. Also, if you mention that it's your honeymoon you may find yourself upgraded to lagoon/castle view. Both times we've stayed at the GF we have been upgraded from garden view to lagoon view, this last trip with a view of the Magic Kingdom. We could watch Wishes form our balcony each night. At the FQ, all I said was I hope we had a nice room and the CM dead panned," all rooms are automatically assigned". Not to mention robes, thick towels, great water pressure.............

Thanks everybody! I just talked to FI who really wants to stay at the GF! Who knew he even cared! But I'm going to keep working on him-- POFQ looks so nice!

We did our honeymoon at WDW but had to stay offsite because of cost. One of my biggest regrets!! I really wish we had splurged and stayed somewhere on site. My Dh is making up for it though. Each trip now we seem to upgrade on our resort stays. Last time value, next time FOPQ. We'll make it to a Deluxe someday. I do think the fact that your fiancee wants to stay a certain place is really nice. That must mean he has put some thought into it and really wants to make it extra special. I know I am not much help in saying this but I'm sure neither resort is going anywhere for a while so whatever you decide you can always stay at the other for an anniversary or vacation. Good luck and Congrats!!

Why are you renting a car...maybe you should take the free ME service and save some bucks there. Also, why not look into AK or WL...they should only be a little more than POFQ and a lot less than GF, POLY, YC/BC, CR

Wow, thank you all so much for your thoughtful answers! We talked about it again this morning and decided to stay at the GF-- there are so many reasons to stay there, and even though the $2k would help, we're not going to be eating mac and cheese for months if we spend it on our honemyoon.

I'll be sure to post lots of pics of the trip. Thanks again!

For our Disney wedding/Honeymoon we're spliting our stay. Two of the resorts we have chosen are GF and POFQ.

I would definately go with a split stay :flower:

Personally, I would go with POFQ. It's a lovely resort, very quiet. The walk over to POR for dinner at Boatwright's is very pleasant and romantic. Also, in contrast to the people who say there is nothing to do at night at POFQ, I have to say that taking the boat from POFQ to Dowtown Disney and Pleasure Island is a wonderful way to spend an evening.

Also, while you do have to take the bus to get to any of the parks, there is only one bus stop at POFQ and ,although POFQ and POR do sometimes share the bus, it stops at POFQ first for both pick-ups and drop-offs.

DH and I think that POFQ is one of the best values at WDW.

Just a thought -- why not stay at one of the Epcot resorts. They are all lovely -- the BWI is our favorite. There are neat honeymoon cottages there that look like they would be really special for a honeymoon -- and they come with concierge service. Regular and concierge rooms are somewhat less expensive than GF. The Epcot resorts are within walking distance of Epcot and MGM, and the restaurant selection is the best on property (not even counting that you can walk over to World Showcase for lunch or dinner).

Among the Epcot resorts, the BWI or the Yacht Club are good choices. BC always seems to have lots of kids. You could also consider a one-bedroom villa at BWV or BCV -- a great spot for a honeymoon IMO. You get a king size bed, jacuzzi tub big enough for two, a full kitchen, a separate living area. Very nice. Also, the Swan and Dolphin are lovely hotels and often have good specials running.

If GF is your ultimate fantasy, then by all means stay there. But, there is alot more for two adults to do at night over at the Epcot resorts.
