Should we spend a non park day..doing this???

I was thinking of doing a non park day next Sunday. We arrive on Wed. night....plan on doing MK on Thu. and Epcot on Fri, MGM on Sat. and then taking SUnday to do character breakfast at 1900 Park Fare, then maybe going to DTD and then maybe BW for an early dinner....will skip lunch since we are having a big breakfast. What is there to do at BW...would the kids be bored. They are 14, 11 and 6. Then we will go to AK on Monday and MGM later that day for the rest of the night. Then hit MK again for most of Tues. and finish up at EC late afternoon and evening since it is our last night and also EMH for EC that night.

I would love any feedback on this and or other fun suggestions. I was thinking of doing a later breakfast around 10:00 or so...kind of a slower morning since all the rest will be so early.

Sound's great, that would be a perfect day to relax and go to DTD. If you will have a car this would be another good day to maybe explor "the outside." Have fun!

we're spending our last day at WDW hanging out at our resort and then checking out DTD, since my flight is at 6pm so we wouldn't be able to get in enough time at a park to make the $60 park ticket worthwhile. i think it'd be smart to have a day away from the parks

Rent some watermice while you're at the GF. I think it's the best place since you can zoom around the MK resorts and WL & Ft.W. We also enjoy renting one of the surrey bikes on the BW. It's tough on some of those hills, but always a blast!

What is there to do at BW...would the kids be bored. They are 14, 11 and 6.

Probably. There isn't a lot to do. The Boardwalk caters to more of an adult crowd interested in dining and drinking. In the evenings they have a few carnival type of games. There is an arcade with typical video games. Perhaps if your kids are sports fans they might like the ESPN club. Whenever I've gone in the evenings there isn't a whole lot going on.

DTD is a great break from the park. Boardwalk however is a nice stroll but not a whole lot to do. Lots of restaurants and a few shops.

Its nice to take a mid vacation break from the parks, get refreshed and then you are ready to bang out the rest of the vacation at the parks!

I also like to swim in the pool at the resort. Do some resort shopping at the different resorts and things of that nature.

There are tons of things to do without going to the parks and we try to have at least one "off" day each visit. In fact, this summer, we may only visit the parks 2 of the 4 days.

I love the idea of renting boats -- we do that often on our "off" days. We've usually done something like doing a character breakfast (Chef Mickey's) for the later seating (won't be crowded and you get to sleep in) then go to Ft. Wilderness and let the kids see the animals and ride a pony. By then it's lunch time and we will pick a resort that we want to rent a boat from (usually the Cont. or Poly) and pick up some lunch and head down and rent a pontoon boat. After that head back to the resort, hang out, swim, sleep, etc. and get ready for dinner. Mini-golf is always a great afternoon activity. Then pick a dinner place -- we usually do the Boardwalk (dinner at Spoodles), walk around a bit, rent a Surrey, then get ready to watch Illuminations from the bridge at 9pm. Pickup dessert at the bakery or ice cream store and it's 10pm and everyone is ready for bed.

Another fun thing we did last year was a digital camera scavenger hunt. We have two so that helps. 2 kids went with Mom and the other 2 with me and we went looking for about 20 different things in 2 hours. We started at the Contemporary and used the monorail to move between resorts, the ttc and the MK entrance to get pictures of certain things or of our group members in certain spots. We have great pictures of things like hidden mickey's in the resorts, the 5 legged goat in the Cont., our kids with the greeter at the Grand Floridian and some funny random things like a bunch of cast members from the TTC. Didn't cost anything but everything about it was Disney World.

We do this almost every trip. We either go to DTD or over to fort wilderness. We have done the horseback riding, rented a golf cart and drove around, rented water mice boats, this last time we rented canoes. Canoes were a blast.
