Should we skip DHS?

Finally going back to DW for the first time in over ten years, and I'm so excited. We (myself and my new wife, when we arrive) are staying for five nights and won't get in until around 5:30 on our first night there. We are definitely going to MK, Epcot, and AK, and because my fiancée is a huge Harry Potter fan, the Universal parks.

We will have one full day for each park, and on the night we get there we will probably just explore the resort. My question is, am I missing anything by skipping DHS? I've been in the past, and the only real reasons I'd want to go are ToT, GMR and the Sci Fi Dine in Theater. I know DHS has Star Wars and Disney Jr stuff, which I couldn't really care less about, but I almost feel like I'm missing out on the full Disney experience if I don't do all four parks. Can anyone else weigh in on this with your thoughts or suggestions?

I know others will disagree, but HS is one of our favorites! We like it better than Epcot! Fantasmic alone is worth it to us! We are into all the Star Wars stuff, though.

We enjoy it but I just like the old hollywood feel of it. If you have PHs maybe combine it with AK day since that closes early.
After I posted I looked up the scheduled hours for both parks. On that Monday, AK opens for EMH, so I'm thinking maybe we will get there early, see everything we want to see and head to DHS for a few hours in the afternoon for the few things we would like to do. Thanks!

When are you going?

IMO, DHS is still a lot of fun. RnRC, TOT, GMR, Star Tours, Indiana Jones, & TSMM are all worth doing and if you want to do all of those things, it will take at least 1/2 of your day. We were there in November and spent a good portion of 2 days there. Granted, we saw all the shows once and rode all of the rides multiple times. Lights Camera Action was still open then as were the Osborn Lights, so that did take up some time that you won't have to spend. But overall, it is still a fun park.

The fireworks alone are worth going. Not to mention my favorite ride (TOT), my DS5's favorite ride (TSMM) and one of DS14's favorites (RnRc). Add in the GMR, Star Tours and the fact that we are all Star Wars fans and it rivals MK for our time. When the renovations are complete we will probably limit EC to a dinner, and a trip to Mitsukoshi so we can spend an extra half day at DHS.

I say if you have a park hopper yes. If not, you probably will want to skip it.
Agreed! We are skipping HS this time because there just isn't enough there for us right now for even a half day. I don't feel like I will be missing out on the Disney experience at all. Don't feel like you need to go to a park you aren't excited about! But with hoppers if you want to give it a try, you could find yourself enjoying it I suppose.

HS is so much fun, but it depends on who is in your group. DD5 loves Frozen (so do I) and meeting characters. I love Star Wars and all things Disney and DH loves ToT and RnR. It was the best first day park to us. Fantasmic! is a great way to kick off a vacation :)

Just walking in and seeing the sights is a must for us. We love it.

If you have hoppers you should go for a few rides and stay for Fantasmic. DHS is still a wonderful part of DW it just doesn't have enough going on for a full day.

Well a case could be made that TOT is the best attraction on property, so there's that. For Star Wars fans Star Tours is a must, and coaster lovers should enjoy Rock 'n Rollercoaster. If you have hoppers it's worth going just for those attractions, but there are other fun experiences at DHS too. :earsboy:

You are never missing out on the Disney experience if you don't do all four parks. I have skipped Epcot on my last two trips. I will take DHS over Epcot any day.

Haven't been in 10 years? Adult trip?

1) Are you (or your fiancee) a HUGE Star Wars fan? (Would Star Wars memorabilia and Meet and Greets and parades interest you?)
If yes .. then go. (for me that is the big draw)

2) Are there any of the shows that you didn't see last time? Indiana Jones, Beauty and the Beast, Muppets?
If yes .. then go.

3) Did you enjoy the non-thrill rides there the last time you were there? Toy Story Midway Mania, Star Tours? To me those are both worth multiple rides (even on the same day).
If yes .. then go

With that limited days though, it probably makes sense to skip DHS if you are set on Epcot (I personally would skip Epcot over DHS any trip).

Thanks for all your responses! I ended up finding a flight that arrives in Orlando at noon instead of 5:30 PM so we changed our arriving flight and are now getting in much earlier! Because of this we are going to go ahead and get the four day tickets and go to DHS in the afternoon of the first day we are there (staying May 22, 2016-May 27). I've already gone ahead and made an ADR for Sci-Fi Dine in Theater at 8:40 PM! I think we will have plenty of time to do the things we want at DHS if we arrive there by around 4 or so (it's open until 10 that night).

I loved ToT last time I was there and I'd like to see Indy again. I've also never been on TSMM or RnR so I'm actually excited about DSH now! Awesome!

Star Tours is a really fun ride too that you don't have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy. Lots of great shows too (for example: you don't have to be a little kid to like the Frozen show). There is still plenty there to fill up your day!! Enjoy!

DHS got cut from my recent adult-only trip. Don't like ToT or RnRC, get motion sick on Star Tours, not that interested in the shows, limited number of park days, no hoppers, and didn't want to spend a park ticket on DHS. Much preferred more days at MK (my fave park).

The Star Wars fireworks look amazing though. We were able to see them from our resort, but they must be amazing up close and with the music.

don't skip it, if anything do half a day of DHS and half a day of Epcot. Unless you want to wander around world showcase there is a lot less to do at Epcot than DHS
