Should we return this to the store?

We just bought my son a t-ball set from Target for his birthday. He just started playing with it a few minutes ago. DH said he hit the ball several times off the T, no problem. Well he missed once hit the actual T instead of the ball and it broke. It didn't even break where he hit it, it broke down at the base. Now I could understand if this thing underwent a bunch of abuse, but it shouldn't break after 5 minutes. And it shouldn't break after being hit with a bat--that's what it's used for.

Do we have a reason to return it? Also it came with bases and a ball net. The ball net is already put together (lots of pieces). Should we just try to exchange for another T or try to return the whole thing and get a completely new product? Will they even accept this return? It's from Target.

Take it back! Target will take it back with no problems and just let you get another one. If the next one breaks though, I would maybe switch to a different brand or style.

Yep, return it. You can decide if it seems defective, in which case you can exchange it for another T and keep the rest of the set. Or if it seem like a junky product you can return the whole thing. It should be durable enough for the T to be hit since that's exactly what kids do.

Maybe try getting a rubber T from Sports Authority. They are big and heavy, but will last for years. You can get a set of bases, too. They don't cost much ($10-15 or so, I'd guess) and store flat. They also sell the nets, but of course that's another expense. Can you tell that I have baseball players in the house? Well, not actually in the house--I make them play outside! :teeth:

I'd return it and go to a sporting goods store for the replacement.

My son and nephew were playing with one of those today, it had broken at the base in the same type of circumstance - we just used it without the base and poked it into the ground.

Seeing as we had he same experience, I'd say if you take it back, don't exchange it, but get your money back and get a different one. They just don't seem well made.

Hopefully Beth is still not in the return line at Target! :rotfl:

Another vote for "return".

The T is going to get hit and it shouldn't break that easily, if at all. Sounds like a lemon to me.

Hmmmmm, yeah I think I'll just return it then. DH is ticked because it took him a really long time to put the net together and he cut up his hands doing it. Now it has to go back. Grrrrr.
