Should we rent DVC pts. to stay at Boardwalk for the last 3 nights?

For the first 5 nights, we would be staying at a value resort (haven't decided which one yet). This trip needs be done pretty inexpensively, but we figured since we'd be going in value season we'd be able to get a standard studio at Boardwalk for about $90.00 a night assuming we'd pay $10.00 a point. It seems like such a great deal, but is it worth the bother of switching resorts midstream? What's it like there? We stayed at the VWL last year and loved it. At the time of travel our kids will be 5, 3 and 8months. thanks for any advice/info.

Keep in mind weekends require more points. So, if you plan on staying at the BWV for 3 week nights, I would say go for it!! We always split stays between resorts. It's actually fun and we have small kids too. Disney will transfer your luggage for you. My advice would be to do the value resort first than stay at the BW. The BW is our favorite place and you will absolutely love it!! If you were in a studio at VWL, the rooms should be comparable, but not the resort. I love the WL, but the BW just is special to us. It is so beautiful, lively and fun. Depending on when you're going if it is 9 points per night you are right it would be $90 a night, if you can rent at $10 per point. You should be able to rent for that price. Also there is no tax. Keep in mind, if it is less than 11 months away you might have a hard time getting a standard studio. If a preferred view is the only thing available, it is more points per night. Not too much more. If you tell me when you plan to go, I could tell you better. Value season for value resorts and deluxes are different. For DVC BWV "value" season would be in the months of Jan, Sept, and first 2 weeks of Dec and it is considered "adventure season". Let me know if you have any more questions.

If you are trying for a standard view room, you need to make that reservation at least 8-11 months ahead of time. If you have less time than that and you haven't gotten a reservation yet for a Std View room, you probably are out of luck.

Adding to what was already said about the standard view rooms. There are not many standard view rooms at BWV and due to the lower point costs for them, they tend to get booked up early by owners at BWV.
However, I was able to get a standard view studio at BWV as a non owner. In order to do this, I had to book day by day and get up really early each day to make sure.

I'm in the process now of trying to rent DVC points for a studio at BWV for my trip in May. The lady I'm working with, has me on a waitlist. There are no standard views available at all and not all of the five nights I need are available even in a preferred view. The CM told her the preferred view would be the most likely to come through. I've talked with another DVC member who says standard views are few and far between. This DVC member doesn't rent points, but she posts here and on another board I frequent. I believe she said there's only like 20 something of them total, as most views are preferred (looking over a pool/canal) or Boardwalk view. The preferred views cost about two more points a night than a standard view. The ones looking over the pools/canal cost the same as the ones overlooking the Boardwalk. Personally I wanted the Standard view for the quiet, as much as the price. I currently have ressies at POP, but really want the location of the Boardwalk. Due to the points going up so much for Fri-Sat, I will be staying at POP those night though. Good luck!!

By the way I'm going back in late Sept and again in early Dec and plan to rent DVC points for at least one, if not both of those trips (as long as everything works out well for this one). I'd like to stay at OKW in late Sept and in the Boardwalk area in early Dec.

You probably need to get that Dec reservation now if you want the BWV area in early Dec. That's a very popular time with DVC members and gets reserved quickly.
