Should we or shouldn't we?

Would it be stupid and unthinkable to be there the first few days of Oct and not go to MNSSHP?

I hadn't planned on going because I thought it might be too scary and too late at night for our 2 yo dd. But the more I keep reading about it, the more I think our older boys (9 and 12) would love it.

I've got a dinner ADR at Kona on Oct 2 at and had planned on a relaxing evening watching the fireworks from the Poly beach after dinner. Should I scrap that and get MNSSHP tickets to surprise the boys?

(And, if I did surprise them, am I right in assuming costumes will be easy (though likely expensive) to buy once there?)

What to do?

From everything I've heard MNSSHP is THE event to go to. Seeing the characters in their costumes is really fun and what kids doesn't love tons of candy? It's all about character encounters and fun. You could get costumes through disneydirect.com and have them sent to a work address, for a surprise.

My DS was 16 months on his first MNSSHP and he was not scared at all. He will be almost 2 1/2 this year and we are doing it again. It's not scarey at all just dark, but that is what happens when the sun goes down. :rotfl:

Mello - I guess I am a true nut, because we are NOT going to MNSSHP this year. While we will probably try to go some other October, this trip we just decided to use that money for other things. Honestly, it is REALLY expensive for a family of four, and we just decided to focus on other things. I am sure it is great, but I think you can have just as much fun without it.

i must be a nutter too in that case. we'll be out there in oct, but are not going to MNSSHP. i think it will be too late for my ds who is 4. i don't want to waste a couple of days after it because he'll have to 'catch up' on sleep. And be too tired to do anything for the next couple of days. nothing worse than an overtired (grumpy) toddler

We did the MNSSHP in 2003 when my daughter was 5 and it is one of the best things we've ever done at Disney. The whole night was incredibly magical and I'd recommend that you make the time to attend if it can be squeezed into your budget. I'd be happy to answer any questions that you have about it.

We're going with our 6 and 2.5 yo dd's. I also had reservations about it being a late night, and it is rather expensive, but my 6yo LOVES Halloween, and the party looks like such fun. I think we'll just try to take a long break at the resort that afternoon and see how things go. My kids are both night owls who love a good party, so they might outlast us. :rotfl:

Definitely a WOULD NOT MISS event! We flew down for the weekend last year JUST to attend it because we had never been and I would do it again in a heartbeat! DH, DD7 and I had a wonderful time!

This is us. DH and DD LOVE Halloween so I can't pass up this event. We will be having a nice relaxing afternoon at the resort maybe a swim and nap. Nothing to big. Our DD is also a night owl. Usually falls asleep after me. :rotfl: We are very excited and can't wait to attend our 1st MNSSHP!!! :maleficen :maleficen :maleficen :maleficen

We did the same thing last year - left here late Thursday night flying, did Downtown Disney and the party on Friday, hotel and some running around on Saturday and came home bright and early Sunday morning!

It was a blast!

Add us to the list of nutty people who aren't going to MNSSHP. We are doing so many other fun and special things on our trip, that we decided to skip it. And, as much as I hate to say it, we just aren't that excited by parades or candy. So, for us, it would be an expensive way to ride the rides- we already have MYW tickets for that! Maybe in another few years we'll go, but for now, we just don't think it's for us.

I called up and ordered tickets today! I figured what the heck, we may never get back there at that time of year, and even if we do, the boys will be older, so might as well make the most of this trip now. I couldn't get in to LTT though - they were totally booked. So, guess we'll be eating Counter Service that night - dh won't be thrilled about that. But I'm thinking of ordering him a Jack Sparrow costume pirate: to ease his pain. :rotfl: He'd love that! But do adults really dress up? I think he'd really be thrilled about the whole thing if I could find a little mermaid costume lol.

Plenty of adults dress up. It's lots of fun. You'll have a great time. Try to eat before the party officially starts so you're not wasting that time eating. I think they keep Cosmic Ray's open if you can't get a table service reservation. They usually start letting you into MK on the party ticket after 4PM so if you head into the park then you should be able to find someplace to eat before the party starts.

We went last year for the first time and loved it! We took our then, five year old grandson, and this year we are also taking his 2 1/2 year old brother. I have to say that it is the most fun that we have ever had at WDW. Like another poster said, it is magical. The night we went all the attractions were a walk on. I can't wait!

You'll save yourself a lot of money. Kona is fun with great food. The fireworks view is great.
