Should we make rental car res. now?

for our trip in January, and then just watch the rates?

We're going Jan23-Feb10 and so far Budget is showing a rate of $362 for midsize - no codes.

I always make a car rental reservation just after finalizing travel dates. This way I know I have something. The way rates have been fluctuating lately, they could go up as-well-as down.

As time draws close, check rates and make a new reservation (cancelling the older one) if rates go down.

I agree with Lew. Since there is no penalty for cancellation. Why not? You're protected if the rental rates go up. And if they go down
