Should we leave today or post-pone due to Fires?

OK we are suppose to leave in an hour or two. We know the winds change direction all the time but it looks as though the smoke should be blown out of the DL area by tonight. Should we risk going today or post pone a few weeks? Did everything just get worse overnight? Any updates on the fire situations or highway closures would be great too.

How long were you planning to stay? If you can postpone a day or two, I'd consider it. Alternatively, perhaps you could go down to San Diego for a day or two and then go back to Anaheim.

Tracer, I had to call DLR about a problem. Before I hung up, I asked about the smoke. She said that the cloud wasn't directly over them right now, but you could still smell the smoke in the air. I don't think today would be good for your 6 mo. IMHO, I would postpone at least a day. Winds don't always do what they are supposed to do, and you don't want your 6 mo to develop breathing problems. Good luck with your decision!

FWIW, at this moment the sky over the DL area is clear, but we can still smell smoke.

Thanks! Just got off the phone, for the 3rd time today with DL. They said the skys are much clearer than yesterday but there is still smoke air and light ashes falling. We were able to postpone our trip to Dec 7-10 without any added fees and get this, it's cheaper too :) Now I have to go unpack EVERYTHING argh!!!!

I hope all those in the parks today are able to enjoy it and report back with the weather and air quality as the day goes on.

Tracer, I am glad you got things rearranged! It will be a lot less stressful!

Seriously! I am so glad the Disney travel co. was so great about it....AND the days we are going DL closes at 6pm for the cast member party, which for us is perfect. Our three little ones will be able to see the parade and fireworks at a decent hour!!:thumbsup2

wow i just heard the news say 50 units in an apartment complex in anhime burned..i was like oh shoot..got to check diss. Hope every one is safe..and glad you were able to postpone an make it cheaper hehe

Yesterday we left... I am glad you postponed. We could smell the smoke in our room coming in through the air conditioning - not uncommon according to my grandparents and aunt who live there and visited us for a few hours yesterday.

It is bad. Yesterday with the winds, we had ash flying all around us. We spent 45 min waiting for the Disneyland Express (because it had broke down) and that was enough time outside. I can't imagine being in the parks. Even the valet and bell staff had masks or towels over their noses and mouths.

Im new to the board....looking for updates on the fires around Disnyland....we are going nov 23 for a week, but unsure about the fire....Im not sure if airlines will do anything for us if we think we shouldnt go...thats four tickets...and it will be a long time before we can go again....

What is Disney Travel Company telling people?

Are they "forgiving" on their cancellation policy?

Does anyone know if Travel Insurance would cover something like that?

Much thanks in advance!:goodvibes

We called right away, maybe 4pm on Saturday night. We then called again at close making sure that is was ok for us to put it off in the AM to make our final call. We watched the news, i-net all night long. We called at 8am opening and they already had our notes in the system that they would move our dates with no fee or charge. We spoke to 3 different people, all being supervisors, and they were all willing to do the same thing. Again we called right when it began to get bad at DL, so it was new to everyone. I don't know if they are still doing it or not, I would assume so. Howver, since this isn't something that is going away with the snap of a finger, they may have different orders now. We are also staying at the DLH and it was pretty booked up. We had to be super flexable with our dates. Anyhow, we have 3 little ones, our youngest is 6 months, and they all agreed about the air quality for an infant, let alone everyone else too. We booked a Costco package and they will still able to keep all of our extra goodies, free character b-fast, $100 GC, etc...they just moved our dates.

I think you should give them a call, can't hurt anything. If you want to cancel altogether they may not be as accomidating as if they were just flexing your dates a bit. Good luck.
