Should we keep our water softener?

We are almost near our completion of switching from well water to the county water system.

Should we keep our water softener? I really don't feel like having salt delievered all the time.

Anyone know how much the softeners actually cost new?
 
I see you live in Florida. Friends on mine used to live in Deltona (not that far away) and had a water softener. That was my first experience with one. I've had one ever since I owned my first home.

New ones (depending on the capacity needed) can run from $300 on up + installation.

You should get your new water tested but I have a feeling that you'll find that you have hard water and will benefit from a softener.

The best kind of softener to get is the "on demand" type which are efficient in their use of salt. The softener will only use salt when the water usage has reached a certain point. Going away for a week or two? It won't regenerate. Use a lot of water? It will regenerate more often.
 
Interesting. I guess I will have it tested. The water down here is quite different than up North.
