Should we just cancel?

We leave in a week. All this stuff about Fastpass + is getting me down. I don't even want to go now. I've been waiting for this trip since July. I don't want to let this ruin it. If the standby lines are shorter, can we just use them instead?

STOP reading the FP+ posts on this board.

If you insist on reading them, be selective.

Most reports I've read from people who have actually USED FP+ are generally positive.

There are things they like about it, there are things they don't like. But, isn't that like anything else in the world?

Back away from the Theme Parks board and have a great time on your trip!!!

You don't have to use FP at all if you don't want to. I certainly wouldn't cancel your ong planned trip. That seems like it might be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

My friend and I are arriving tomorrow. I am a bit concerned about all of it, but I am not going to let it ruin our trip. She is a Disney novice and has to idea about any of it. I didn't tell her because I didn't want her to worry.

It is my understanding that you can use the stand-by line if the FP+ line is longer. That is my plan.

Fast passes are basically just a way that you KNOW you get the ride the 3 rides you love the most, without standing in line (more than a few minutes generally).

The only downside I have really encountered is how it causes me to stick to a touring schedule, BUT...since I have found the touring schedules from Touring plans actually drastically reduces the amount of time I spend in line anyways, this isn't as big of a deal.

Use them to your advantage, and have the app on your smart phone so you can put them off an hour or so if you find you are running behind.

The biggest issues I have with it is the limiting us to 3.

The crowds at WDW have increased so much (due to souther american tourists from my observations) that you will find the FP+ is a good thing.

Enjoy your trip. Go with the flow. You'll be blessed just soaking up the atmosphere and getting a break from every day life. Enjoy. :)

We were there for NYE week with FP+ and we had a great time! MB worked flawlessly! It was nice to know our rides that we really wanted to ride were picked out. It was our first time riding TSMM without the RD run! In fact we rode it the day we flew in! Didn't even get to DHS till 4pm. That would have never happened before without a 2 hour wait! We had a great time! A few FP+ I actually changed when the standby was shorter than expected! Go see how it works for you! We did RD and tended to save our FP+ for when the parks are busy, so nothing before noon.

Even before FP+ we had times where the fast pass line was longer than the stand by line. We would just go on the stand by line. No stress just enjoy the magic of Disney.

We've been scheduling "day of" Fp+ all this week due to using CM ticket media and we've ridden a number of rides standby.

Even with late in the day arrivals in MK, Fp+ for BTMRR, HM, and others were still available. These rides were basically walk ons late in the evening...MK stayed open until 1:00 a.m. Late afternoon on Thursday and again in the evening last night, the wait for ETWB was less than 40 minutes.

At 4:00 yesterday, TSMM was still available for single Fp+ in DHS. Star Tours was a 10 minute wait at 5:30 and our best Fp+ usage was for GMR which had a 30 minute wait for standby riders.

There's no point in not having fp ready to use if you want it. If it turns out to not be convenient, then get in standby instead. Unless you are used to a commando touring style where you somehow do the same rides over and over, you'll be fine.

Go, go, go! We just got back on Saturday (boo hoo, hoo) and I too was concerned about FP+ especially since we were going over Presidents week. It was nice knowing we would get the rides we wanted without the mad dash at opening. I also had some flexibility in changing them if we needed to. On our first day at MK we decided to go on The Little Mermaid ride because the wait was low so that allowed me to switch that FP (on our 2nd day at MK) to HM which had a longer wait than we wanted. When we got to MK on our second day we hopped on Peter Pan in the morning, even though we had a FP scheduled later that day for that ride, because the wait was so short. Then in line I changed our FP to BTMR for later in the evening. Yes scheduling the FP takes a little bit of planning but it was worth it to us and I agree with other posters, stay away from the boards. You will have a great time if you allow yourself to do so. Have fun!!!!

I am not a fan of fp+, but I still love Disney World. I'm still checking into Pop Century tomorrow with a smile on my face and my heart full of excitement. You will have a wonderful time. If you want to do a lot, I suggest getting to the park well before opening and making you fp's for the late afternoon. And in-between the big attractions, enjoy the little things - that's what makes WDW so unique!

We just got back and we stayed off site. I was really worried about FP+, but it wasn't horrible. We got FP+ for the attraction we wanted and the stand by lines were not bad at all. Last week was a super busy week with President's Week crowds and it was enjoyable. You will be fine.

Just be aware that a standby line that appears shorter may not be since FP riders are generally prioritized over standby riders.

I was really worried about FP+, but it wasn't horrible.

Perhaps a new marketing slogan for FP+? ;)

We were there the first week in February. We had no issues with FP+, it actually worked great for us. I was able to change things if needed throughout the day. We had an amazing trip, and you will too!

If it's already all planned and paid for, I would go. Just adjust your expectations and hey, you might be pleasantly surprised. I think it's worth going back at least once since the changes to make sure before writing it off entirely. You can still have fun, it just might be different than your past trips. If you go, I hope you have a great trip.

Then you are being "Selective" in your reading... Even people who are very "Pro" FP+ are now grasping and saying the reason the negative FP+ reviews, reviews not speculation, are so numerous is because people are more likely to complain then to write how awesome something was/is. The negative reviews very much outweigh the positive.

Fast passes are basically just a way that you KNOW you get the ride the 3 rides you love the most, without standing in line (more than a few minutes generally).

Well, not really, in MK maybe, but with tiers in the other 3 parks, not at all. Unless you don't plan on riding any Tier 1 rides I guess.

But for the overall consensus, I would generally agree, you can still enjoy Disney, in fact many of the negative FP+ reviews have said they still had a good or great time, but they just don't like FP. Many of them have said they will not return until there are changes to FP, but many of them will continue to return as well.

Disney is still a great place, no doubt, and you can have a great time. But, if you sit down, and recognize that its not worth the cost for you, No one should blame you. For a lot of people, who are concerned with doing rides/attractions, FP+ is a major downgrade. If rides are your thing, if they are the prime reason you go to WDW, I could very much see you cancelling, if they are only part of a mix of things you like, I wouldn't worry as much about it, though you might decide afterwards that you might take a break, or not return to Disney .... I am sure you will enjoy this trip.

Rides aren't the most important. I do love everything down there. I definitely will be taking advantage of standby lines when necessary. Its always come in handy just being me and my mom when they take a party of two ahead of others on certain rides.

Plus we made a FP+ for Mickeys PhillarMagic and now that I think about it, that's probably one of the only things we don't need a FP for. So we probably won't use that.
