Should we have saved our Magic Bands?

Travelled to WDW in October of 2014. We are going back again in Feb or March 2016. We didn't save our Magic Bands. Disney will just ship us new ones, right?

So long as you are staying on site for your next visit, yes. But, you could also have kept your bands and ordered a second color....they are interchangeable when on the same MDE account, but some like to wear different colors for photos (or like my daughter to match her outfits whenever possible, lol).

If you are NOT staying on site, then you will either have to purchase bands (they start at $13 for plain ones and go up for the themed ones).....or you can simply use your admission ticket at the gate and at FP kiosks. I have several bands, because there is no choice to say "don't send me another".....but I do not like wearing anything on my wrists, so I wear my ticket on a lanyard and just tap it.....more convenient to me, avoids the ick of a band, and the odd tan line, lol.

Simply do not customize your new bands in MDE and you will have no new bands shipped. Bring your current bands during resort check in and you avoid the generic grey new ones at the resort as well.

Confirming the mailing address is considered part of the customization process. If you confirm the mailing address but don't select colors, they will mail grey MagicBands.

No mail for me, but from my recent experience.

Disney pesters you to customize your MagicBands. I had a split stay and got two sets of bands. For fun I put character names on the second set of bands and was told by Cast Members that this is actually very common. Especially on additional bands. If you are wearing a band, the resort will not give you another band unless you specifically ask. I had to go back to the front desk to get my Sven and Olaf bands.

Keeping the MagicBands is also both a good sovereign of the trip and a good idea because of how connected they are to your personal information, even if the band does not actually carry it.

I was implying don’t do anything to the bands on MDE most people equate customize to selecting the bands (including the shipping).

Maybe someday someone will do what Tech Support told me I could do, and call them and have any given shipment suppressed for a trip...

There have been people that confirmed the address but didn't select a color and they incorrectly assumed that meant they didn't customize them.

How many times does it have to be said?
There is ZERO personal information stored on the band.
None.
Nada.
Zip.
There is a serial number, and that is it.
That number relates to a number on disney's servers that is related to your personal information.
It's stored on the servers, not the band.
So I highly doubt there's any way anyone could have any use for them unless they manage to hack disney's servers, which isn't a high possibility.

Ignored the customization and got grey ones with the names listed in the MDE, including my birth name, which I never use except for things like credit cards.

I tried that with customer service.....was told they couldn't stop them from shipping and urging me to customize so I can enjoy a colored band instead of plain gray (which I chuckled...when did gray lose it's color?). Next time I'll try Tech Support.

What part of 'even if the band does actually carry it(it being your data)' didn't you understand. I am well aware there are levels of security to the My Magic Plus system. But it would be naive to not take precautions, especially simple ones to ensure that if there ever was a data breach that you would be more protected. Hackers have gotten into government servers in at least a dozen highly developed Western nations in the last few years including places like the British and Canadian DOD, the Pentagon and many, many government systems in Korea. Disney would be a cake-walk if the right people wanted that information.

The smart Alec/ride attitude isn't necessary, so calm your farm, we're talking about disney, not capital punishment ethics.
With or without the magic bands, a server security breach would mean the information in your MDE account is open to being taken.
What I don't understand is why people this the magic bands are more susceptible to breach than the RFID room key cards that also had charging privileges?

KTTW only have short-range RFID, MagicBands have long-range RFID.

I always assumed they somehow used our Magic Bands as a way of identifying us when we got off the Magical Express bus. I love being greeted by name when we arrive at the Boardwalk! How else would they know that we are The Punkin712 Family when we haven't even been inside the hotel yet?

I am really surprised how many people are bothered by getting the bands. We are one color short of having the complete set (well I am, my DS doesn't want pink so next time he is getting another blue one to replace his since that is the color he wears the most and it is starting to look worn). I like coordinating with my outfit and would get board just having one band. They all work with no issues, we don't do anything special with them.

MagicBands have both passive (short-range) RFID and active (long-range) RFID.

Erionm I just made the difference because having the active for MagicBands is the reason they have a bit more concern. Not a lot more, but it is just one of those things. I think you should take care of your MagicBands and treat them like a credit card. Better to be a little more cautions and take care then not and regret it.

Don't get me wrong. I thought the MagicBands were fantastic. I loved not having to carry money/credit/debit cards around and risk losing stuff. It was exactly like being on a cruise and being able to go to the front desk to pay off your folio made it even better. I think the general idea of the whole MM+ system is fantastic, just think that there are too many rides that have FP+.

Puffkin. I pulled I total Ryno when I got the MagicBands home and realized I needed to get a pink one on my next trip to have the complete Power Rangers set.

They did that even before the Magic Bands existed. You board ME at the airport and they know you're coming... then it's just a matter of spotting the right family (2 adults and 2 childrens, 4 and 8 years old...)

They might now be using the magic bands to make it easier, but they can dot it without them.
