Should we go with an infant or while pregnant?

My DH and I are going to start trying to have another child. We have a trip planned for next November when DD turns 4. If we get lucky right away, (DD was one shot out of the gate) the baby will be around 3-4 months when we go to the world. However, I am debabting whether we should hold off trying for a little while and go while I am pregnant, and I could be anywhere between 2 months to 6 months pregnant. IYO, what is better? I had a pretty difficult pregnancy last time, so that may play a factor again. I just want to be able to enjoy DD on her birthday trip and I don't want her to feel like the "baby" is getting all the attention, however, I am getting up there in age and really do want to have another child soon!

TIA

This is just my opinion - but I would rather go pregnant than with an infant in November. November is the start of flu season a lot of times and we all know there are tons of germs in Disney. A 3-4 month old doesn't have the immune system yet to deal with stuff that you and I wouldn't be the least sick over. I went to Disney at 32 weeks and had a great time. It was a fun relaxing trip. I didn't have another child though - which might make it a little more difficult -but I wouldn't think it would be too rough with a 4 year old. So there's my vote - for what it's worth :)

Thinking about what WDWorBust said, it is flu season, and the expectant mother should keep herself safe, too, in addition to the newborn. You didn't ask this, but I'd say leave off on the trip until you are in physical shape to do a lot of activity and the baby is older.

I have gone to WDW pregnant both in summer and winter . If you are past your first trimester when you go, make sure you get a flu shot. Also, It has been my experience that adults and older children have a higher risk of getting ill from going to WDW than does an infant. Babies don't put their little hands all over fountains, toilets, rails in the queue lines etc. and then touch their faces. I always carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer when we go. I took my daughter at 10 months (December), and my son at age 5 months (July) and will be going again at age 9 months (December). With a little planning our trips always go smoothly and we have a blast!

Have fun!

I'm not sure if I'd sign up to go pregnant if you know you might be green around the gills with morning sickness. That dosn't sound like too much fun. I'm going with a baby and being pregnant. This should be interesting. I'd give you a report when we get back, but it looks like you are going before us.

Hey what about putting off trying to conceive till Disney and you could "bring home a little souvineer"! :earboy2:

I have gine twice while pregnant and it has been fine. Thonly thing is you cannot go on some rides, ect. The youngest we have ever taken the kids is 8 months, I don't think I would take a wee little one ;)

I've done both. I went while 28 weeks preg. w/ baby #2. I was fine. I couldn't have done it while pregnant this past time w/ #3. I swelled really bad and had lots of pain, the walking would have made me miserable.

We went the last week of Sept. w/ our 3 kids, baby 3 mo. It was pretty easy. We are lucky and have a really good baby, no colic, sleeps all night, etc. We just had to remember our limits. I would breastfeed her during shows and on some of the longer rides like Small World. We would ask to sit on the back row of the boats, I had a nursing cover and would feed her. If she was asleep in her stroller we would just roll her into restaurants. The Baby Care Centers at the parks are really nice as well. 3 mo. was a nice age for us because she still slept quite a bit during the day and loved her Baby Bjorn.

I had good luck with both situations. We did take DS, our 1st, while pregnant. Kinda our last trip as just the 3 of us, before DD was born. It really just depends on what you want.

Good luck with your decision and on conceiving. Come to think of it, you could go ahead and plan the trip before you get pregnant. Our DD baby #3, is our " princess: little souvenir" from last years trip. :wizard:

i was 12weeks pregnant with my 5th child when we went in 2002 and for me the holiday was fine-the only thing that was bad was i missed out on all the big rides i had been looking forward to riding(i wasnt pg when we booked it!)but i managed to walk round all day ok-we stayed with mil most of the time and she is in her 60's so didnt want to walk round fast which suited me!!i guess its up to you at the end of the day which you would prefer! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I went with a 6 week old -- no problems.

If it were me and I wanted another and the clock was ticking, I would just go with whatever happens - baby or pregnant.

That's how I ended up at DW with a 6 week old -- it was my oldest daughter's Christmas trip her senior year of high school. I was 42. Yep, I'll be 60 when that last one graduates.

I've never been pregnant but I did take both of my children at 6 months old during Thanksgiving week. Both times were fine. Like a poster above said, infants don't put their hands on as many things as older children- they spend most of their time in the stroller or in someone's arms. As long as the baby is healthy and you are careful, I don't think you'd have many problems- and as long as the weather is warm and it should be in Nov. I haven't been to WDW while pregnant before- don't think I would handle that well anyway.
Either way, it is your decision and you will do what you think is best.
Good luck and have fun!!!

Ive never done either (gone pregnant or with an infant) but I am a mom so I have BEEN pregnant and had an infant :flower:

Either way, it is hard to plan for exactly what would happen.

As you said, your pregnancy could be really rough, which would make touring a bear. On the other hand, this one could be a breeze, and you would have time to spend as a family of 3 before the new addition.

With a baby, they could be colicky, cranky, and overstimulated. Or on the other hand, the baby could be easygoing, sleep all day, and nurse through all the loud stuff, and give you an opportunity to have a vacation with your 'new' family addition.

Either way, its a gamble. I am a person who likes to plan EVERYTHING so I understand your wanting to do it the 'right' way, but Im not sure if there is one here. .

Personally, I wouldnt postpone a pregnancy for a vacation, but I wouldnt postpone a family trip either(at least not very much, obviously wouldnt go anywhere near the due date :teeth: ).

If it were me, I would just relax, plan your trip, plan your pregnancy, and see how everything works out. It always does work out, in the end.

Well, my dh and I went to "the world" for our first anniversary, and I was two months pregnant with my first ds (he's now 10...the "big one" in that pic down there!). Aside from being sick every morning, and not having the stomach to eat much before noon, we had a really good trip. We took it slow, took breaks for snacks, and I stayed off of the rides with warnings.

I think going in early pregnancy is better than going in mid-late pregnancy, as long as you are feeling OK. I've never been with a child younger than 2 1/2, so I don't know how it would be with an infant. I think if you had some help, going with an infant wouldn't be hard. Having help along would give you a break and give you time with your older child. But generally, babies 6 months and younger aren't very mobile, so they make good travelers! :)

Whatever you decide, have fun!!

We are headed to the world for Thanksgiving and I will 16 weeks pg with child 2. We have ahd the trip planned for almost a year and this baby is a huge suprise.. I feel really good so we shall see!

Well, here's my two cents...

I've taken an infant. No problem. Baby's, imo, tend to be the same amount of work at home or on vacation. And my second (who went as an infant) was very high maintance; not an easy baby by any means. Any infant is still pretty portable. And Disney is one of the easiest vacations I've been on with a baby. I don't think taking a baby is that big of a deal. I find it much easier than at toddler and preschooler age. Also, infants aren't touching things and getting around strangers; as long as your family has had their flu shots, I wouldn't worry.

My second pregnancy was very complicated and required us postponing a WDW trip. That would be a chance ANY woman would have to do. I did go pregnant during my third pregnacy (my easiest, but still not as easy as most women's). I was just 6 months. I had to hold off on a lot of rides, but still could ride more than not. There are certain percautions you would need to take (hydrate, rest frequently, avoid certain rides, etc), but it is still a very enjoyable trip.

All in all, I got pregnant the first time the first time we tried. The second time it took two years. The third time came a lot sooner than planned (birth control failed). Therefore, I wouldn't plan a pregnancy around a trip or a trip around a (hopeful) pregnancy. Things might not work out the way you want or expect. I would just think of them as two seperate things in your life and deal with each as they need to be. Plan your trip and plan your family. Work your family situation (pregnant or infant) into your trip as needed. Either way, things will work out the way they should.
