Should we do a upgrade?

We are booked to go to AKL for 14 nights next year in a Savannah view room. I love a bit of luxury, but have had a quote to upgrade to concierge.

My choice is:

Should I upgrade to concierge for the 2nd week of the holiday or should I upgrade to a better class on the 8 hour flight from the UK?. There are 4 of us going including me, DW, DD10 and DS4.

What would you do? Or should I just save the cash for extra treats at the World?

Help

I must start running everything I do through a spell and grammar checker!!

My opinion is only based on what I have researched - I am still in the trip planning mode - but I would consider concierge because of the food offerings. I think the upgrade is around $70/night (don't quote me on that!) and when I think of the amount of $$ my family would spend on breakfast, snacks, and a couple of drinks for the adults, it is worth it to upgrade and get free food. From what I understand you can also take some bottled water, snacks etc. (within reason I'm sure) from the concierge lounge to the Parks. Either way I'm sure you and your family will have an awesome time - I have heard great things about AKL.

Oh, one more thing, we want to go concierge with AKL also because of the Sunrise Safari which is only for concierge guests. It does cost extra (approx $50/person), but you get to go through the Safari in a private truck with (I think) a max of 20 people and you get a huge brunch afterwords. Apparently the tour is approx 45 mins and they stop and let you take pics and explain about the animals etc. This is only available if you are concierge.

If I was going to be awake for the eight hour flight (to and from the UK) I would strongly consider it. If I were going to be sleeping through most of the flight, then I would upgrade your room instead.

You have to decide what will make you happiest, only you know that answer ::yes::

Both would make me happy, but which one happiest.....I'm really not sure. Does the 7 days overide the 2 x 8 hour flights?

Sixteen hours in a very tight space may seem like seven days.

That is why I wondered if this would be awake time, or sleeping time on the plane. If I was awake, I would take the upgrade on the plane. If I was going to sleep on the plane I would upgrade the room. ::yes::

I think it depends on your vacation, as well as your personal taste.

I'm the kind of person who usually doesn't spend too much time at the hotel. Unless I were planning a very relaxed trip, with a lot of resort time, I would definitely upgrade my airfare; especially if it were a trans-atlantic flight. That 8 hours would be so much more bearable in first class than in coach!!!!!

But that's just my personal opinion!

I believe that you are not guaranteed a savannah view if you book AKL concierge, as some of the rooms on the concierge floor do not have savannah views. Weird, huh?

If you want to do the Sunrise Safari (available only to concierge guests at AKL--please read more about it for specifics, since it's only available on certain days), you might consider staying a few nights in concierge and staying the rest of the time in a non-concierge savannah-view room--which would guarantee you a savannah view. Also, the concierge rooms at AKL are on the top floor, and you might want to stay non-concierge on the 2nd floor for the best (IMO) animal-viewing location.

HTH --miffy--
