Should we buy into AKL or split points?

We want to buy 320 points. We like AKL which is where we'd buy, but I've seen postings where members have their points at several different resorts. Is this more cost effective or is the only benefit that you have more than one home resort and are able to make reservations 11 months out at more places? Thanks!

It can be very cost effective to buy resale for much lower than the current resort selling price. But you want to compare apples to apples and not have stripped contracts etc. Then you should also look at maintenance dues to compare to AKV. Also, most of the resorts expire sooner than AKV so that can affect the cost/benefit analysis.

But most importantly - buy where you want to stay. We started with a VWL resale b/c that's where we most want to stay. Then we did an add on at AKV since we like that as well. But I did like the money we saved on the VWL! :thumbsup2

I decided to have all of my points in 1 place because it gives more flexibility with your points.

If you want to cruise, exchange...borrow in advance...it makes it much easier to have all your points in 1 place....One day you might want a grand villa and it will be easier to have all points in 1 place for that at 11month window.

However if you plan most of your vacation at 7 months or less.....I would buy at whatever resort costs less.....Ie...OKW....lower dues and price per point...etc.
Happy planning

Whether you purchase at one resort or two, it would be a good idea to purchase 2 160-point contracts rather than one 320-point contract. It just makes things easier if you ever have to sell (you can sell just half of your points) or if you want to will the membership to more than one child.

If you think you will be spending equal time at two different resorts then buying 160 points at each would be a good idea. Also, if you can find good resales at different resorts it might be worth it as well. Just make sure you get the same Use Year on both contracts. Having two different Use Years can make managing your contracts difficult.
