We are driving down from MA to WDW the 1st week in October and staying at AS Sports for 10 days. We are driving a car - no suv/mini van. 4 - me, dh, ds4, & dd3 - in it with luggage. We have both a single stroller and a double stroller here at home. My kids generally do okay with walking - haven't used a stroller for about a year now and we plan on taking breaks, having sit down meals, and possible going back to room for naps if needed. I am up in the air over bringing the double stroller as it takes up a lot of trunk room - which is limited with luggage as well. Thinking of strapping down on top of our car but not sure about that either. Should we take the double - am I looking for trouble by packing the single to save space?

Since you're tight on space, take the single and if the need arises for another, you could rent another single. The kids may be fine taking turns in the one. I would skip the double though because of space and because they can be a pain to push around Disney.

I say take the double. You can always put your luggage on top of your car. Your kids are still fairly little and even kids that age who don't use a stroller at home, will usually use on at WDW. And you might be surprised that both will be exhausted at the same time and need a rest, and that alone might make the difference between an all around fun trip and whiny children. I also find pushing two strollers to be a much bigger pain than pushing one double stroller. Besides, why throw away money on a rental when you already have what you need, and you can always use the extra space.
