I just got an e-mail that said Universal Studios is owned by a French company. With all of the talk of a boycott, do you think we should boycott Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure?

:bounce:

Do you support every single thing your government does big or small? I didn't think so. So WHY is everyone so quick to assume just because the government of another country doesn't support our taking action against Iraqi that all of its citizens feel the same way?

As you can tell by my signature - I have no intention of boycotting Universal!

I totally disagree with the French and before this latest fracas with them I've been pretty inclined to dislike them in general just based on my parent's experiences in France and abroad with French people. (However we did have a lovely French Asst. Server on our Disney Cruise last year! - so I know my bias is stupid) But I think the world is too global to boycott a company based on their ownership. I've received that same e-mail you have - but how many of those companies are supplying American's with jobs? How many companies that AREN'T listed are buying goods and services from the French to use in their end product? Disney has a park in France - are you going to boycott them too? Are you boycotting other things already because they are French owned?

Quite frankly - I just don't see that boycotting Universal is going to do a damned thing to change French policy. Just like the folks in France that trashed the McDonald's and are boycotting Coca-Cola aren't doing a damned thing to change U.S. policy. The only boycott I've ever heard of that changed ANYTHING was the Montgomery Bus boycott in the 50's. And that was a very organized and targeted boycott for a very specific reason. I imagine there are other successful boycotts like that - but they are on a smaller scale, they are organized and they have a specific and acheivable goal.

So that's my opinion - you pretty much have to come up with your own and do whatever your family is happy with.

Disney has a park just outside Paris.

So let's boycott Disney for "consorting with the enemy.";)

There was a post a couple of weeks ago regarding this. Look at all the local Orlando people whose jobs would be affected by a boycott.

We'll be there in 18 days.

Patty

For the record, my parents are in Paris right now on vacation.

That being said, I was not advocating a boycott, I am just curious as to the opinions on a strongly supportive site for US/IOA.

Don't even bother asking that question on these boards or you'll get reamed! I received the email also and was curious as to what others thought about it and boy did i regret i ever asked it.

That's the great thing about America though, while everyone has the right to agree or disagree with us, we have the freedom to choose where and on what we choose to spend our hard earned money and the freedom to voice our opinions. Wouldn't the world be a wonderful place if everyone could do that.

And remember, France is not only disagreeing with us they are also still supplying iraq with weapons to use against us.....not that it has anything to do with universal studios.........just an added thought to share. :D

That's a new one. I heard that Russia was being accused of supplying Iraq with blocking equipment (and they denied it) but this is the first I've heard of France supplying weapons. Would love to read the source of that information.

I heard that the French had contracts with Iraq, and they were owed a lot of money.

This has been on the boards one other time and it lasted about 1 day I see this being closed up very soon. If you want to boycott Universal that is fine it will be one less person in the lines when I am there weekly.
