Should we blame Shanghai for the Condiment Downgrade?

I'm a native Yinzer (Pittsburgher, that is). I'm not allowed to ingest any condiments except Heinz. It's a rule. :thumbsup2
I thought as a native Yinzer, you had Heinz instead of blood. The red stuff that comes out when you are cut is tomato-based, no?

Was in Columbia Harbor House for lunch today. Heinz tartar sauce was a needle in a haystack of a new off name brand. Heinz ketchup is completely gone.View attachment 166903View attachment 166904
Really cheap restaurants can afford to offer name brand condiments. Being that Disney charges triple and more what a mcdonalds or Bk does, it is really CHEAP on their part.
This is the stuff visible to the public. What kind of condiments and sauces do you think they're using in the kitchens that re out of sight?

Totally agree. Is Disney not concerned with their brand being damaged? Keep hikiing prices and reducing services - condiments of all things? What is next? Toilet paper quallity or rationing?

Same stuff from Sysco everyone else uses.

When you're being outclassed by MCDonalds and BK, that is not good.
The consumer, when spending their own money at grocery stores, prefers to spend MORE money to get a Heinz Ketchup or a hellman's mayo than the store brands. People will never get mad at you when you choose the industry leader but when you offer "Brand X" and they dont like the taste of it, they'll be very upset that you bought a cheapie brand so you could save half a penny per packet.
And keep in mind that while many people like a little ketchup with their fries, some people just want a little fries with their ketchup.
Penny wise and pound foolish.

I believe McDonald's stopped using Heinz in 2013. I don't know the exact details, but it was something about a merger and a BK executive who was also a Heinz executive. McDonald's didn't like that.

Am I the only one who is too cheap to buy name brand condiments, unless they are on sale? I can't really blame Disney for something I do myself.

I do blame those who, for example, bring bread from home but go to the food court for free peanut butter and jelly. I still remember that post! They couldn't understand why it would be a problem to just go to the food court and grab what they wanted. After all, if it is out in the food court it must be free for everyone, right?:sad2:

...are you kidding me??? Wow

Nope. It's true. Just hang out on the boards of a while and you will see how folks manage to stretch their food budget A LOT!

I am not sure that Red Gold is a generic brand of condiment. A post upthread discussed the lack of corn syrup, etc in the condiment. I wonder if Disney is making changes in places that they can to control some of the additives that are controversial.

Corn syrup is the second ingredient in the new tartar sauce, and while it is also in the Heinz tartar sauce, it's much further down in the List of ingredients

There is no doubt Disney's new condiment contract change was made to save money at the expense of their brand dropping a couple of notches. We have been long time Disney lovers and DVC owners who challenge ourselves to come up with the last change by Disney that we found to be positive (outside of new attractions/updates). The smaller things matter, especiallly on a cumulative basis. While their brand has declined in our opinion and continues to alienate us, Disney is a marketing genius who creates two new fans for every one that they lose.

I love ketchup on my fries, but honestly I couldn't have told you what brand of ketchup Disney used prior to this thread.
